Dia daoibh go lir agus falte chuig The School Chronicle ars. Hello everyone and welcome to the
Christmas edition of The School Chronicle! We hope you are all having a good year so far. We have
participated in so many activities! It is now very close to Christmas and we cant wait! Is everyone excited
about Santa coming? Hope you all have written your letters to him. In the Christmas season, we should
remember those who are less unfortunate than ourselves. Everyone deserves to have a nice Christmas so it
is a good idea to help the poor. We can donate money or non-perishable food to the various charities that
help those in need, but we should also pray for them and especially the homeless. The Shoe Box appeal was
great success sand we collected 70 boxes for this worthy cause.

It is now four months since we started in our new classes. We have been very busy and have already made a
load of memories! Preparations have begun for Secondary School and we are studying really hard as this
will be a big step to a new part of our lives. One of our classmates, Elze O Connell, has moved to Dublin and
we miss her! The Junior Infants have all settled in well and they are enjoying school life. Some 6th Class
pupils organise games for them at break-time. There is a student teacher, Ms. Mooney, working in their
classroom. She is a past pupil of Drumconrath N.S. and it is lovely to welcome her back here in a different
role. Its hard to believe that some day these infants will be editors! Our Christmas Carol Service was held
in St. Pater & Pauls Church, Drumconrath, last Friday.

It was absolutely brilliant! Hope you all enjoyed it! We would like to thank all our teachers for organising it.
Some of us played music sang carols, danced and recited poetry. We are such a talented group of pupils!
The rehearsals were great fun, though we practised really hard to make this Carol Service a great success.
On Monday, we visited Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home and performed for the patients. The Nativity Play,
involving Junior and Senior Infants, was beautiful and each pupil performed so well! Well Done! Ms. Keenan
on a fabulous Nativity Play.! Last week, the entire school went to the Iontas Theatre, Castleblayney, to see
the pantomime, Beauty and the Beast. Deirdre Byrne and Nikita Daly were among the cast. It was so
entertaining! We met one of the actors, past pupil, Daniel Myles, after the production.

All the classrooms have lovely Christmas trees, decorations and cribs on display. This is making us all feel
so excited and festive! Doesnt it feel great? We made our own Christmas Advent Wreath this year and Fr.
Connaughton allowed us to pick holly, palm and shrubs from his garden to make it. The Silver Circle Draw
was a great success and we raised almost 4000 in this fundraiser. The money will be used to fund various
activities during the school year. Thank you all for selling lines and thanks to all who bought lines. We had
loads of extra prizes for the final draw and it was great fun watching so many of our pupils winning.
Parent/Teacher meetings were held in the school in November. Hope you all got good reports. Our
Confirmation Enrolment Ceremony was held on December 2nd the first day of Advent. It was a beautiful
ceremony. We are all involved in it and most of our sponsors attended.

We are now one step closer to making our Confirmation. Confirmation Day is on the 18th May 2018. Peace
Proms will be taking place in the New Year. Pupils in 4th & 5th Class have been learning some lovely, new
songs and actions this year. Rosita taught each class how to dance. Her lessons were great and it was such
fun dancing to Country and Western Music! Swimming lessons will begin in the New Year. We are an active
school!

4
Food Dudes was held in the school during this past term and it gave us all a chance to try eating various
fruit and vegetables and this encouraged us to eat healthy lunches. We are presented with certificates for
participating. The Christmas Badminton Tournament was held and was a great success. The finals were held
last week. During Science week, a scientist done workshops in each class and it was very interesting.
Deirdre Mallon is teaching us gardening. We wish to thank her for this. We have begun studying for the
annual Ardee Credit Union Quiz. Hopefully we can be as successful as last year, maybe even better!
Christmas is the season to be jolly, we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas time and a Happy New Year!
Slan go Fill. Rang VI.
Merry Christmas from Drumconrath N.S. Nollaig Shona, daoibh go lir!
