Running Repairs
Definition-'repairs, as to a machine or vehicle, that are minor and can be
made with little or no interruption in the use of the item'
www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/running-repairs
Running Repairs can also apply to other areas such as the legs
that have to be kept going until the time for major repairs can
be made
If this was you can get to the aid station and what are
they going to do, and will they go home with you to
help you through the next few days while your legs
repair?

Here is a solution someone found to help with sore tight legs that were dis-
functional however dont watch it if you have a delicate frame of mind, but it
goes to show what can happen if an inappropriate massage is given.
Ask before getting someone to work on your legs after a marathon what they
do and how they do it before you pay them!

Many people swear off ever doing sport or having a massage again
https://www.statista.com/statistics/280473/marathons-by-number-of-
finshers-worldwide/
These are just a few of the marathons held each year around the world
It would be safe to say that most of the people who do a marathon and
finish (or not) and go to an aid station because their legs have become
dis-functional are unable to access it because the area is overcrowded
with other runners with similar problems.
The longer you are out there the more likely you are going to have
problems and the longer you are on the road the less chance of getting
looked at.
Now What?
Suffering
If you have pushed yourself to the limits during a marathon you are going to feel
pain for a few days as Suffering continues as the body does its repair work before
life can continue normally
Soreness (during) and stiffness (after) have to be accepted as a fact of life of doing
sport, and if you don't like it a way to avoid it is don't do it-easy!
The body repairs itself physically and physiologically, but while the natural recovery
systems are doing their own thing the body can be assisted in making itself more
comfortable while recovering
The majority of people who enter a marthon only need a minimal amount
of work to help them get over the initial discomfort of after competing
Not everyone who does a sport gets injured from it, but if they
do they need to be treated by the appropriate medical
professionals
If you can work with the body then overcoming the muscle
stiffness which is a part of the recovery process the athlete will
be able to move easily again much faster without pain or
discomfort!
Pro-active mobility does not mean that the legs are battered
into submission and made to move!
This event is where working 'Wholistically' was envisaged and tested and
further testing was carried out at the many events following on this
website and the one linked to this.
a recovered leg
(a do it your self recovery system)
assists with recovery when the legs are feeling fatigued.
offers a strategy for coping with sore legs after doing a sport.
When you have run your race and your legs are totally worn out and the muscles
have cooled down and stiffness is setting in, you are probably thinking
What now?
There are many articles and books on how to improve your performance and avoid
injury, but relatively little on maintaining the legs in a functional state
Working on the muscles means a lot of training is needed to get the knowledge and
skills to do the strokes to be effective, it needs oil to prevent friction, towels to wipe
the oil off, a massage table to work on, this may be beyond the financial range of
many runners and walkers and their support person if they have one
Working with the muscles means very little training is needed, and no equipment
other than the hands, this means that the athlete doesn't need to get undressed so
can maintain a slow cool down rather than rapid heat loss which can lead to
hypothermia on a cold day
The aim of Light Manual Muscle Relaxation is to clear the legs of micro-cellular
debris as quickly as possible without breaking into the body's own recovery
processes so that a healthy circulation can be resumed as quickly as possible which
will result in a better performance for the athlete!
it is a simple physiology based recovery system developed for extreme athletes and
tested at events all over the world and is in fact the only system that has been used
on 2 runs around the world http://www.worldrun.org with Jesper Olsen of Denmark

Michael developed Wholistic Light Manual Muscle Relaxation in 1995 at the Colac 6 day
(Australia) running and walking event and has been using it in various fields and events
since then.
These include the 1996 Nanango 1000 Mile (1600 kilometer) 16 day event in Queensland
Australia, part of Jesper Olsens world run 1 in Victoria www.worldrun.org and Tony
Mangans record around the world 50,000 kilometer run
He was with Tony from Melbourne to Darwin Australia www.theworldjog.com and more
recently as part of his around the world walk from Perth to Sydney for 2500 kilometers

Light Manual Muscle Relaxation which is a system he developed in 1995 and is different
from conventional legs maintenance because it works with the legs and not on them.
This makes it more effective to use for people who dont have the knowledge and skills
needed for conventional massage systems.
It doesnt rely on the hand skills and strokes as does massage so needs no oil to prevent skin
friction, it needs no undressing which means that it is appropriate to use in conditions
where conventional massage is too restrictive.
If anyone was planning to walk or run around the world or across continents Michael would
be the one that you would want to have with you because of his extensive experience being
out there in the wild country and helping to keep the runners and walkers on track as
smoothly as possible.
Michael does workshops on Wholistic Light Michael was also involved in a run across
America in 2011 for Natural Medicine from San Francisco to Bridgeport Conn.
