customers would expect to be served almost immediately and if

there was any delay, they would expect to have a prompt apology

So how is it that an elderly person can spend 11 hours in our
emergency department and be almost totally ignored for the entire
time. When she needed to use the facilities, I had to track someone
down to provide some service. Had I not been there, how long
would she have waited for someone to simply ask how was she
doing and was there anything that she needed.
It is a sad commentary on our society that I can get faster and
more caring health care for my dog than I can for a family member.
Is the problem not enough resources?? A more recent visit with
another family member took 2 ½ hours during which she received
less than 10 minutes of actual attention. Knowing several other
people who were also there, I can confirm that their experience was

Doing a bit of analysis, I did a count of the approximate number of
patients actually inside the ER and estimated that there were no
more than 30 patients actually inside the ER at that time. I also did

working with patients, one would expect that each patient would
receive about 10 minutes of attention each hour. Nope!! Not even
close!!
It wouldn't take a genius to make a few visits to the ER and ask
patients just how they feel about the service that they are receiving.
Check and see how many people are leaving without service after
waiting hours in frustration.
This past weekend, I gave myself a nasty little cut with a grinder.
Certainly not life threatening, but as a gaping wound was definitely

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY 101
10 tips to make your return to school stress free - with fall just around
the corner, thousands of post-secondary students across Canada are
packing up their belongings to move across the province or even the
country to pursue their studies.
“Whether you’re moving a hundred kilometres away from home or a
thousand, it’s important to keep yourself and your possessions safe,”
says Amy Woods, official spokesperson for Allstate Insurance Company
of Canada. “Although we’ve had a small number of claims, we’ve
noticed that theft seems to be an issue for university students. Having

room in order to protect your belongings.

THE COUNTRY DOCTOR
When our family, with three little kids, came to New Brunswick,
we decided to buy a house in Hammond River, which was actually
called Nauwigewauk. After living in Toronto, life could not possibly
be more different. We were used to big city life and now we had to
get used living in the country.
It was interesting to note how fast our children adapted and it Russell
seemed that they loved it. We found out that for services we had to

had three doctors - Dr. Leatherbarrow, Dr. Snow and Dr. Robb. We
called Dr. Robb but the woman answering said "County Jail".
Obviously it was the wrong number, but she also said "You must
want to talk about Dr. Robb". She was moonlighting, we thought. RUSSELL HALL & RICK KENNEDY WOULD

One day in the fall he invited us to come over for a glass of wine

He dropped his tool case on the floor and himself in a lazy chair in
front of the fireplace. After a while the phone rang and he got up
and talked to a patient, then he said: "I have to go. A patient needs
a shot, sorry about that". “Doug, you are not in any condition to
drive, we'll bring you there”, we said and he gratefully accepted.
We drove him to the other side of the highway to a house with a
long driveway. “You stay in the car, it won't be long” he said, and he
walked over to the house which was totally dark. Then we saw the
lights go on at the main floor, then on the second floor and after a
while the lights went out at the top floor and when the lights went
out on the main floor, we saw him leave the house. He was
laughing when he entered the car. He told us that when he
entered the house he had trouble finding the switches, but when
he switched the light on he saw the son in the living room on the
couch sleeping, he was obviously drunk. Then he went upstairs to
look for the woman and when he saw her he asked her which bed
she was going to lay in, because after the shot she would be out
cold. When she laid on the bed, he sat on the edge to prepare the
syringe, and then the bed collapsed. He gave her the needle,
tucked her in and turned off the lights and left the house.
He was a brilliant doctor and was an associated professor of
Dalhousie Medical School who also trained students at his
practice and was so dedicated because to him patients always
came first, no matter what day or what time. When he needed a
quadruple bypass, which was done in Ottawa, he died on the
operating table leaving Hampton without the best doctor it ever
had.
The other two doctors were very dedicated as well. Dr.
Leatherbarrow had his practice well into old age and Dr. Snow was
known for having two TV's on top of each other. While his kids Please check our website for Kubota’s

HAMPTON AND ITS ARTISTS

Receiving an invitation to a local art opening event makes
one realize what an important part in Hampton life art and
the artists play. Hampton has more resident artists per capita
than any other community of its size in Atlantic Canada with
galleries and openings, which are well attended.
Hampton has public art on display, such as the wonderful
mural that Fred Harrison and the High School kids completed
last year and the Credo sculpture donated to John Peters
Humphrey. In the Jail House there is a small gallery beside
the Library and art works are on display in the Tourist bureau
at the Old Station.
On alternate years the very successful event “Bloomin’
Artists” takes place with artists from all along the Valley and
beyond converging on the town, creating like fury. When the
schools are in session there is a constant outpouring from the
children, as Hampton educators understand what an
important factor art is in
education. Happily these kids

Julie
Drummond
Julie Drummond believes in working hard for her community. She and her husband Gary have four children and
they understand the needs and concerns of everyday New Brunswickers.
While her children were in elementary school, Julie was active with the Hammond River Valley Elementary School
Hot Lunch and Reading Programs. She was also a School Board member, a member of her area’s Local Service
District Advisory Committee, Financial Secretary for Saint Anthony’s Church, and a volunteer at local blood donor
clinics.
Julie has been employed at the Saint John Airport for the past 11 years. She is the current unit chair of Local 5319,
United Steelworkers of America. Her union involvement has allowed Julie to take part in leadership and development
retreats. She is also a proud supporter of Canada’s Armed Forces and mother of a son who has served for his country
in Afghanistan.
Julie is looking forward to being a part of Roger Duguay’s team as they spread the message around the province
that the New Democrats can be trusted to make a difference!
Julie is ready to stand up for middle class families.
The voters of Hampton Kings deserve an MLA who is dedicated to serving their needs.
Julie Drummond will work to ensure our young people have opportunities right here in Kings County. She
wants to see our economy strengthened, and our government held accountable.
Join in the excitement, be a part of Julie’s team, as the New Democrats show New Brunswick what
responsible leadership is all about. Authorized by the Official Agent for Julie Drummond
