Siegler celebrates 60th by winning Runners Section

Marin Independent Journal
Joannie Siegler of Da-
vis decided to celebrate her
60th birthday this year by
committing to run the Dip-
sea Race from Mill Valley to
Stinson Beach on Sunday.
Boy, is she glad she did.
Siegler used an ability to
pass many, many other
runners to complete the
7.4-mile footrace as the top
finisher in the Runners Sec-
tion of the race. The Run-
ners are the group of re-
turning runners not finish-
ing in the top half the year
before, as well as first-tim-
ers like Siegler.
“I run all kinds of races
and I’ve been meaning to
do this race for at least 10
years,” Siegler said. “I loved
it. I’ll be back.”
Siegler, who finished
567th overall with a clock
time of 1:20:53, earns a spot
in the Invitational Section
next year. She could chal-
lenge for top-35 black shirt
as soon as next year.
“I kept my rhythm and
passed some people out
there,” Siegler said.
Siegler narrowly beat out
Tyler Hansen, who finished
in 1:20:58, for the top spot
in the Runners Section. SHERRY LAVARS — CONTRIBUTED
