Essay:

26 January 2010, the first day of English -critical reading- lesson meeting. At the
beginning, as usual, for the new classes, the lecture has to explain the crucial
things to the students.

Let’s see, first, the name of the lecture, this is totally important -you don’t know
the name of person who teaches you in front? That’s terrible!-. Okay, let me tell
you, the name of the lecture in my class: Mr. Rukman.

Second, it’s all about the rules. Student should know what the rules about. The
rule number one is talking about your absent, you get only two days free from the
class, another 80% meeting, you should attend the class, in the case of you got ill
or something important, you should make a letter to inform the lecture, and
make an essay about behind the scene you miss the class.

In this class, you’ll get four times individual assignments, four times group
assignments -the assignments are all about outline idea in an article and
comment; summary; analysis thesis (claim/opinion), reasons for claim, backing for
reasons, counterargument/refutation from the article; and summary-response
essay-, three times quizzes (on the fifth, seventh, and fourteenth week of
meeting), once middle and final test. The percentage of all of the above is through
this regulation: assignment 10% - if you done all the assignment, you got plus 10
points! You can submit all your assignment online on wr04.blogspot.com,
rukmanitb@yahoo.co.uk, or join the facebook group “english 13”-, quiz 20%,
middle test 35%, and final test 25%. Your score can be ranked by A (85-100), AB
(81-84), B (70-80), BC (65-69), C (55-64), and D (≤54).

There are some units in this subject: 1) book previewing; teach you how to choose
the right book, 2) paragraph patterns; to indentify, topic discussion pattern,
question-answer pattern, and problem-solution pattern, 3) paragraph
development; to organize, classification, cause and effect, comparison contrast,
description, process, general analysis, or argument, -for this second and third
unit, we learn about main idea, supporting idea, and signal words-, 4) guessing
word meaning; critical guessing, affixes -prefixes and suffixes-, stems, and
context, 5) annotating; make a note about something relevant, 6) outlining; the
framework of annotating, 7) argument analysis; opinion (thesis statement),
reason, evidence, example, claim, counterargument, rebutting, and concluding,
and 8) summary and summary-response essay.

That’s the entire introduction for this class; I think the absent rule is good,
especially on the “punishment” for missing the class, that’s help students to learn
English more, but I think, I’ll choose to not miss any class, making essay, is really
not me. About the grade and the score, its fine, but maybe it’s too high for the A
grade, 85. See the material in this subject? That’s hard. I’m not that better in
English, particularly in everything about paragraph, that’s just too much for me.
I’m glad to learn English by watching movie or listening to the music, this is much
fun than reading. Maybe it could be the reason why I need to attend all the class,
learn more, and know more about paragraph. I hope by joining this class I got a
lot for increase my English ability.
