Re: Stan Garnett Resignation as District Attorney for Colorado's 20th Judicial District, effective
March 1,2018.
I am writing to inform you of my resignation as District Attorney in Colorado's 20th Judicial District,
effective March I, 2018. It has been a pleasure and an honor to scrve the People of Colorado as the
second longest serving District Attorney in Boulder County since statehood in 1876.
I also want to personally thank you for your attention to issues of justice and public safety in Colorado
and in Boulder County. You have been both a friend and an ally to this office, and to law enforcement
and the judicial system, during my three terms of service.
Over the next several weeks, my top priority will be to assist you in whatever manner you find helpful to
select my successor and to assure a smooth transition for the excellent staff of this office. Know that I
stand ready to answer any questions that you or your staff might have or to meet with you and your staff
in person.
Though I will be beginning an exciting opportunity in the private sector, I will remain involved in public
discourse, particularly on the issues about which I am most passionate: the judicial system, criminal
justice reform and protection of our immigrant population.
As a private citizen, I will remain ready to help your administration, and you personally, in any manner
you might find helpful.
