TEXT BOOK: Fairyland 3 TITLE: IN THE OLD HOUSE LESSON AIMS: To make students understand the difference between singular(THERE IS) and plural(THERE ARE) To get students to describe their bedrooms using THERE IS/THERE ARE To have student listen or read the text in order to give the correct answers To get student describe images using THERE IS/THERE ARE To have the students interact with each other and have dialogs on the topic. COMPETENCES: By the end of the class students will learn the difference between THERE IS and THERE ARE and how to use them correctly in a dialogue or when describing something SKILLS: Listening, Speaking, Reading, VOCABULARY: House, Rooms, Furniture, Insects MATERIALS: Student’s book, blackboard CLASS MANAGEMENT: Individual/pair/group work, whole class PROCEDURE: 1. Warm up Time: 1-2 min Interaction: T-Ss Procedure: Greetings between T and Ss, Introductory conversations 2. Activity 2 Aim: To present home objects, rooms and furniture items Time: 7-10 min Interaction: Whole class Procedure: T writes the title of the lesson on the blackboard. T leads a disscution about an old house by asking questions such as: “What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about an old house?” “Can you name some things that you can find in an old house?” T asks the Ss to look aver the pictures in the textbooks and read together the text. T asks the Ss to answer the first questions in the textbooks and then correct them together 3. Activity 3 Aim: To introduce THERE IS/THERE ARE Time: 10 min Interaction: Whole class Procedure: T explains the difference between plural and singular using examples such as: “There is a mouse on the table”-Singular “There are three paintings on the wall”- Plural T ask the Ss to make examples of their own 4. Activity 4 Aim: To have students practice the vocabulary and grammar working in pairs Time:10 min Interaction: in pairs Procedure: T ask the Ss to work in pairs. Each S has to describe his bedroom to his partner using the vocabulary and THERE IS/THERE ARE 5. Activity 5 Aim: To have students consolidate the vocabulary and grammar of the lesson by playing a game Time:10 Interaction: whole class Procedure: T throws a ball to one of the Ss. T names a room and the S need to say something about that room using the vocabulary and THERE IS/THERE ARE. Then the S throws the ball to another S and the game continues. Example: A: Kitchen B: There are four chairs in the kitchen Then if the time permits, Ss can do exercise from pg 68 and 69. Homework assessment: T gives the Ss the homework with clear instructions.
