Essay on Save Trees

Trees give us life and really very much important for the survival on the earth.
Trees are the best friend of a human being. The whole living being is dependent
on the trees. They provide us oxygen to breathe and the trees absorb all the
carbon dioxide. So, the tree plantation is necessary for our surroundings to get
fresh air and clean the environment.

Trees are the main source of rain on the earth as they attract clouds which
ultimately brings rain. Trees prevent soil erosion and keep the environment fresh
by preventing the pollution. we shadow under the trees, it is the source of foods,
the source of money, home, medicine etc. to the people. The trees always give
never takes anything from us rather it takes all the bad and negative things which
are present in the environment.

Trees are very helpful and useful friends of humanity. They clean soil by filtering
sewage and chemicals, control noise pollution, air pollution, reduce flash
flooding, etc. by seeing the importance and value of trees in our life, we should
honour and save the trees in order to save life and environment.

Save trees, save a life is not only a slogan, it is a reality and our responsibility to
all of us to save our healthy environment and green earth. Trees are a symbol of
life on the earth because the trees are also the living beings. The natural home for
many people and wild animals. Saving trees have been must at any cost in such a
modern world where urbanization, industrialization and global warming is
growing very fast. In such a technological world where the people are fighting
and working for themselves only, only trees are living for benefiting others both
human beings and animals.

How to save trees

Here are some effective ways to save a tree and save life and environment on the
earth:

 The areas must be analyzed that whether the tree needed to be removed because
of being dead, damaged, diseased or planted in an appropriate Location.
 We should not cut trees near streets and if it is necessary to cut it, the more
plants must be planted in another place.
 we can contact our city council representatives regarding tree removal issue.
 We should join our hands together with neighbours and set a public hearing in
front of officials regarding the saving of the tree.
 We should contact the media and make them on our side to reach tree removal
issue to the public and generate awareness.
 If trees have been removed, we should contact local governmental or nonprofit
organization for ensuring re-plantation in the same area.
Importance of trees
 Trees add lots of value to our lives as well as and improve our living status by
providing fresh oxygen and nutritious foods.
 Trees fulfil our additional necessities like shelter, medicine and other needs of
our modern lifestyles.
 Trees in the society, community, streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards play
a great role in providing a peaceful environment and aesthetically pleasing
environment. Trees help to increase the quality of life by providing cool shadow
during our outdoor activities.

Save Water
Save water is the water conservation through various means on the earth in
order to balance life here.
By estimating the very less percentage of safe and drinking water on the earth,
water conservation or save water campaign has been compulsory for every one
of us. Large water bodies are getting polluted on daily basis by the industrial
waste materials. Proper water management systems should be promoted by the
builders in all industrial buildings, apartments, school, hospitals, etc to bring
more efficiency in the water saving. Awareness programmes should be run to let
common people know about the potential problems caused by the drinking or
normal water scarcity. There is urgent need to eradicate the people’s attitude
about water wastage.
Rainwater harvesting should be initiated by the people at village level. Rain
water can be saved by making small or big ponds with proper maintenance.
Young students need to be more aware and concentrate on the issues and
solutions. Water insecurity and scarcity has affected people’s living in many
countries of the developing world. According to the statistics, people’s demand
for the water has been six fold in the past century. 40 per cent of the global
population is living in the areas of demand outstrips supply. And in the coming
decades this situation can be worsened because everything will expand like
population, agriculture, industries, etc.
How to Save Water
I have mentioned below some better ways to save water on daily basis:
 People should water their lawn and garden only when they need water.
 Sprinkling is better on the plants than putting more water with pipe which can
save more gallons of water per month.
 Planting drought resistant plants is better way to save water.
 Leaky faucets and plumbing joints should be fixed properly to save water leakage
which may save around 20 gallons of water per day.
 Use of bucket and mug is good to wash car instead of using pipe which may save
up to 150 gallons of water each time.
 Use of flow restrictors to the showers also saves more water.
 Use of fully loaded washing machines and dishwashers saves around 300 to 800
gallons per month.
 Restricting the use of more water per toilet helps in saving more water per day.
 We should wash fruits and vegetables in the water filled pot instead of washing
under the running water.
 Rain water harvesting is good idea for the purposes like use in toilet, watering
garden, etc so that clean water can be saved for drinking and cooking purposes.
Essay on Wildlife Conservation!
Like forests, wildlife is also a national resource, which not only helps in
maintaining the ecological balance but is also beneficial from economic,
recreational and aesthetic points of view. There was a time when human
interference was minimum the number of wild animals was quite high and there
was no problem of their protection or conservation. But, with the expansion of
agriculture, settlement, industrial and other developmental activities and mainly
due to greed of man, the number of wild animals gradually became lesser and
lesser. With the result that several species of animals have become extinct and
several, others are on the verge of being so.

Deforestation is also one of the main reasons for the loss of wildlife. Mass killings
of wild animals for their meat, bones, fur, teeth, hair, skin, etc., are going on
throughout the world. Therefore, the need for wildlife conservation has now
become a necessity.

Population growth, expansion of agriculture and livestock raising building of

cities and roads, and pollution are among the many pressures on the natural
habitat of wildlife. Along with illegal hunting, habitat reduction and its
degradation has threatened the bio-diversity of the regions where these are
rampant.
Preservation of wildlife does not mean a blanket protection to all faunal and
floral species; rather, it implies a proper, judicious control over the multiplication
of plants and animals, which interact together to provide a proper environment
to man whose very existence is in peril today.

Due to the irrational use of natural and biotic resources of the earth in the past,
most of the wildlife has been destroyed beyond retrieval. It is our urgent duty to
protect the natural splendor of ecosystems and to evolve a system of co-existence
with every living creature upon the earth.

Although must countries of the world are very particular regarding conservation
of wildlife, the number of wild animals is reducing day by day. World Wild Life
Fund is the international agency, which is doing commendable work in
promoting the protection of wildlife. There are national agencies also engaged in
the conservation of wildlife.

Some steps in the direction of wildlife conservation could be as follows:

(i) To survey and collect all the information about wildlife, especially, their
number and growth.

(ii) To protect habitat by protecting forests.

(iii) To delimit the areas of their natural habitat.

(iv) To protect wildlife from pollution and from natural hazards.

(v) To impose complete restriction on hunting and capturing of wildlife.

(vi) To impose restrictions on export and import of wildlife products and severe
punishment to be given to those who indulge in this activity.

(vii) To develop game sanctuaries for specific wild animals or for general world
life.

(viii) To make special arrangements to protect those species whose number is

very limited.

(ix) To develop general awareness at national and international level regarding

protection of wildlife.

(x) To adopt a system of wildlife management through trained personnel.

India is a good example where several steps have been taken for wildlife
conservation. It is a country of varied wildlife, where more than 500 types of wild
animals, 2,100 types of birds and about 20,000 types of reptiles and fishes have
been found. According to an estimate, in India, about 200 species of wild animals
and birds have already become extinct and another 2,500 are on the verge of
extinction.

Some of them are black buck, chinkara, wolf, swamp deer, nilgai, Indian gazelle,
antelope, tiger, rhinoceros, gir lion, crocodile, flamingo, pelican, bustard, white
crane, grey heron, mountain quail, etc. In India, the government and NGOs are
taking keen interest in the protection of wildlife. The Wild Life Protection Act,
1972 has several provisions for the conservation of wildlife.

As many as 165 game sanctuaries and 21 national parks have been developed to
protect the natural habitat and wild animals. Apart from this, a Wild Life
Conservation Week is also celebrated from 7th of October every year. But still
there is a long way to go in this direction.

What is Pollution?

Pollution, we hear it every other day at school, college and read about it in
newspapers. So what is it? Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the
natural surroundings; which brings about changes that affect our normal
lifestyles adversely. Pollutants are the key elements or components of pollution
which are generally waste materials of different forms. Pollution disturbs our
ecosystem and the balance in the environment. With modernization and
development in our lives pollution has reached its peak; giving rise to global
warming and human illness.

Pollution occurs in different forms; air, water, soil, radioactive, noise, heat/
thermal and light. Every form of pollution has two sources of occurrence; the
point and the non-point sources. The point sources are easy to identify, monitor
and control, whereas the non-point sources are hard to control. Let us discuss
the different types of pollutions, their causes and effects on mankind and
the environment as a whole.

Types & Causes of Pollution

Air Pollution is the most prominent and dangerous form of pollution. It occurs
due to many reasons. Excessive burning of fuel which is a necessity of our daily
lives for cooking, driving and other industrial activities; releases a huge amount
of chemical substances in the air everyday; these pollute the air.

Smoke from chimneys, factories, vehicles or burning of wood basically occurs

due to coal burning; this releases sulphur dioxide into the air making it toxic. The
effects of air pollution are evident too. Release of sulphur dioxide and hazardous
gases into the air causes global warming and acid rain; which in turn have
increased temperatures, erratic rains and droughts worldwide; making it tough
for the animals to survive. We breathe in every polluted particle from the air;
result is increase in asthma and cancer in the lungs.

Water Pollution has taken toll of all the surviving species of the earth. Almost
60% of the species live in water bodies. It occurs due to several factors; the
industrial wastes dumped into the rivers and other water bodies cause an
imbalance in the water leading to its severe contamination and death of aquatic
species. If you suspect that nearby water sources have been contaminated by a
corporation then it might be a good idea to hire an expert to see your options.

Also spraying insecticides, pesticides like DDT on plants pollutes the ground
water system and oil spills in the oceans have caused irreparable damage to the
water bodies. Eutrophication is another big source; it occurs due to daily
activities like washing clothes, utensils near lakes, ponds or rivers; this forces
detergents to go into water which blocks sunlight from penetrating, thus
reducing oxygen and making it inhabitable.

Water pollution not only harms the aquatic beings but it also contaminates the
entire food chain by severely affecting humans dependent on these. Water-borne
diseases like cholera, diarrhoea have also increased in all places.

Soil pollution occurs due to incorporation of unwanted chemicals in the soil due
to human activities. Use of insecticides and pesticides absorbs the nitrogen
compounds from the soil making it unfit for plants to derive nutrition from.
Release of industrial waste, mining and deforestation also exploits the soil. Since
plants can’t grow properly, they can’t hold the soil and this leads to soil erosion.

Noise pollution is caused when noise which is an unpleasant sound affects our
ears and leads to psychological problems like stress, hypertension, hearing
impairment, etc. It is caused by machines in industries, loud music, etc.

Radioactive pollution is highly dangerous when it occurs. It can occur due to

nuclear plant malfunctions, improper nuclear waste disposal, accidents, etc. It
causes cancer, infertility, blindness, defects at the time of birth; can sterilise soil
and affect air and water.

Thermal/heat pollution is due to the excess heat in the environment creating

unwanted changes over long time periods; due to huge number of industrial
plants, deforestation and air pollution. It increases the earth’s temperature,
causing drastic climatic changes and extinction of wildlife.

Light pollution occurs due to prominent excess illumination of an area. It is

largely visible in big cities, on advertising boards and billboards, in sports or
entertainment events at the night. In residential areas the lives of the inhabitants
is greatly affected by this. It also affects the astronomical observations and
activities by making the stars almost invisible.

Effects of Pollution

1. Environment Degradation : Environment is the first casualty for increase in

pollution weather in air or water. The increase in the amount of CO2 in the
atmosphere leads to smog which can restrict sunlight from reaching the earth.
Thus, preventing plants in the process of photosynthesis. Gases like Sulfur
dioxide and nitrogen oxide can cause acid rain. Water pollution in terms of Oil
spill may lead to death of several wildlife species.

2. Human Health : The decrease in quality of air leads to several respiratory

problems including asthma or lung cancer. Chest pain, congestion, throat
inflammation, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease are some of diseases
that can be causes by air pollution. Water pollution occurs due to contamination
of water and may pose skin related problems including skin irritations and
rashes. Similarly, Noise pollution leads to hearing loss, stress and sleep
disturbance.

3. Global Warming : The emission of greenhouse gases particularly CO2 is

leading to global warming. Every other day new industries are being set up, new
vehicles come on roads and trees are cut to make way for new homes. All of
them, in direct or indirect way lead to increase in CO2 in the environment. The
increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increases the sea level
and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas.

4. Ozone Layer Depletion: Ozone layer is the thin shield high up in the sky that
stops ultra violet rays from reaching the earth. As a result of human activities,
chemicals, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), were released int to the
atmosphere which contributed to the depletion of ozone layer.

5. Infertile Land : Due to constant use of insecticides and pesticides, the soil may
become infertile. Plants may not be able to grow properly. Various forms of
chemicals produced from industrial waste is released into the flowing water
which also affects the quality of soil.

Pollution not only affect humans by destroying their respiratory, cardiovascular

and neurological systems; it also affects the nature, plants, fruits, vegetables,
rivers, ponds, forests, animals, etc, on which they are highly dependent for
survival. It is crucial to control pollution as the nature, wildlife and human life are
precious gifts to the mankind.

=============

Biodegradable waste includes any organic matter in waste which can be broken
down into carbon dioxide, water, methane or simple organic molecules by micro-
organisms and other living things using composting, aerobic digestion, anaerobic
digestion or similar processes. In waste management, it also includes some
inorganic materials which can be decomposed by bacteria. Such materials
include gypsum and its products such as plasterboard and other simple
organic sulfates which can be decomposed to yield hydrogen sulfide in anaerobic
land-fill conditions.[1] [2]
In domestic waste collection, the scope of biodegradable waste may be narrowed
to include only those degradable wastes capable of being handled in the local
waste handling facilities.[3]
===========

Waste which cannot be decomposed by biological process is known as “Non-

biodegradable wastes”. Most of the inorganic waste is non-biodegradable. Non-
biodegradable wastes which can be recycled are known as “Recyclable waste”
and those which cannot be recycled are known as “Non-recyclable waste”.

Example :

1. Electronic waste
2. Plastic waste
3. Nuclear waste
4. Hazardous waste

Non-biodegradable items are items that cannot decay or be broken down by

living organisms. For instance, water bottles, tin cans, tires and computers are all
items that cannot decay in a land fill. They do not react or dissolve easily into the
soil. Another types of non-biodegradable waste which can be again used at
homes are aluminum cans, bottles, plastic products, metal scraps, glasses,
grocery bags or plastic bags and Styrofoam. These non-biodegradable items have
to be stored properly post usage or they can be recycled.
