My resignation will be effective as of 5:00 p.m. today. Since being sworn in on June 27, 2007 to represent Ward 5, ithas been for me a deeply felt honor and privilege to serve my neighbors and our City. Iam grateful for-and proud of-the good that has resulted from my hard work on the Las Vegas City Council. That good, of course, was made fully possible only by the support, trust, and confidence bestowed upon me over the years by my constituents, by the spirit of public service shown by my colleagues on the City Council, and by the indispensable assistance of devoted staff. To all of them I express my heartfelt thanks. Although proud of my service to my constituents and the City, I am deeply ashamed of my conduct leading to my decision to plead guilty to a federal felony charge, specifically, fraudulently converting campaign funds to my own personal use during my 2015 re-election campaign. That shame is as dark and abiding for me as my gladness for my City Council service is bright and enduring. I accept full personal responsibility for my conduct violating the federal criminal law. I am resolved to face the painful consequences of that conduct ina way and with a spirit that will best compensate for my wrong-doing and will best help me become a better man. My hope in resigning effective today is to avoid to the greatest extent possible any adverse consequences to my beloved City of Las Vegas, to the City Council, and to my neighbors and constituents.
