Subject: Democrat Cordray Nearly Tied With DeWine in Ohio Governors Race;
Trump Underwater in Ohio

Date: January 24, 2018

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that the 2018 election for Governor in Ohio
could be a toss-up as Democrat Richard Cordray is almost even with Republican Mike
DeWine. In a hypothetical matchup, Cordray receives 44% of the vote while DeWine is
only 1 point ahead at 45%. Democrat Dennis Kucinich receives 37% of the vote while
DeWine gets 48%. Similar results emerge from the matchup between Democrat Connie
Pillich, who gets 35% of the vote, and DeWine who leads at 47%. DeWine being below
50% against all 3 potential challengers is a troubling sign for someone who’s spent decades
on the ballot in Ohio.

One big reason the political climate in Ohio is the best for Democrats it’s been in several
years is that a majority of Ohio voters (54%) have a somewhat or very unfavorable opinion
of President Trump while just 46% have a somewhat or very favorable opinion of him.

PPP surveyed 585 Ohio voters from January 22-23, 2018. The margin of error for the poll
is +/- 4.1%. This poll was conducted by automated telephone interviews for the Ohio
Democratic Party.
