The following case study contains the test results for a group of 30 Further Education
students who sat a short – answer test of 25 questions – question being worth one
mark.
You will need to carry out the following statistical analysis of the data and produce
charts and graphs to display your results to support the end of year organisational
reports. This can be done either manually or by using a spreadsheet package such as
Excel.
TASKS
Place each of the students in a categoric grade. This should then be displayed as
either a pie or bar chart showing how many students obtained each grade. For this
you may first want to create a tally chart as below showing how many students
obtained each grade, Make a mark each time that grade is shown then add up your
score
No of Students
Grade
A lllllll = 7

C
3. Calculate the frequency of each numerical score from the raw data by drawing up a
chart in the example below – plot this as a bar chart graph

Case Study Instructions
To workout the percentages of the set of data within the case study
manually use the following example from the raw data, take the first
score
EXAMPLE:-
NAME SCORE 13 / 25 X 100 = 52
Ahmed B 13
When using Excel to calculate formulas, always put the equal sign before the
calculation to tell the computer that you are doing a calculation and then key in the
correct formula.
EXAMPLE
To replicate this equation for all students ensure that the first 2 student’s calculations
are complete. Once complete highlight and drag to replicate following percentages.
