ARRIVAL
CAUTION
All JFK gates have the Docking Guidance System. Wing walkers/
guidemen may still provide guidance but are not required. The
guidance system does not ensure the gate area is clear of
obstructions. Self-parking is PROHIBITED if ground equipment
is observed within the painted obstacle-free areas and is not
parked inside the designated red box. See AA Operational
Information Tab, Section 5, for procedures and information.
NOTES
Gate 1 DGS is turned off indefinitely. Three guidemen will be
present to guide the aircraft to the final parking spot.
Gates 3, 5 and 7 has ramp space constraints, expect to see (WAIT)
displayed on the DGS while initially approaching the gate. Taxi may
be continued if the area is clear during turn in and line-up with the
lead-in line.Do not proceed past the jetbridge cab unless the (WAIT)
message has been replaced with the closing rate bar. Call
operations for guidemen if further parking assistance is needed.
Special Procedures
– Contact Ramp after landing to confirm gate and receive assigned
entry spot.
– Call Ramp approaching the entry spot for clearance in.
– MD-80 only authorized for gates 5, 7, 34 and 40.
– 767-300W not authorized on gate 36 due to no winglet clearance.
– Gate 8: 777 use 8X lead-in line.
– Gate 12: 777 use 12X lead-in line.
– Gate 14, 16: 767 and 777 only. Due to the orientation of these two
gates, aircraft should request entry to the alley from taxiway TA.
– When entering the ramp area, use extreme caution concerning jet
blast. Gates 2, 4, and the areas between Concourse B and C, are
especially vulnerable.
– Use just enough thrust to carry the aircraft through the turn, then idle
power to avoid possible damage to the adjacent terminal gates and/
or roadways.
– If the aircraft stops during the turn and cannot be moved under idle
thrust, call for a tow into the gate.
– Arriving aircraft should sit on the apron edge taxi lane until they are
cleared into the gate or have confirmation that the gate is ready.
– NO Single Engine Taxi into gates 1, 2, and 4.

Special Procedures
– Obtain clearance from Ground prior to entering Taxiway T or S. Use
minimum thrust to avoid jetblast damage to the adjacent ramp
areas. IDLE thrust recommended.
– 757/767/777 taxi out on two engines. When clear of ramp area,
utilize Single Engine Taxi when time and conditions permit.
Other Gate Departures
– Ramp Control will provide initial taxi instructions after disconnect.
– Use minimal power for break-away on all ramp areas.
– When departure flow, gate hold or Severe Weather Avoidance
Procedures (SWAP) are in effect, refer to page 20-9F.
– One crewmember shall also monitor JFK Ramp if necessary to
move the aircraft from the gate.
– If Ramp advises the aircraft to leave the gate, contact clearance
delivery/gate hold and advise that delay will be absorbed at the
departure delay staging area.
– Departure delays are computed allowing for an average taxi time of
15 minutes, weather permitting.
– To prevent jet blast damage to gate 16, when taxiing out via taxiway
TA between concourse B and C, hold at the intermediate hold bar
and remain parallel to the terminals until clearance from Ground
Control is received.
Noise Abatement

DEPARTURE FLOW PROCEDURES/GATEHOLD PROCEDURES
Departure Flow procedures will be used during peak periods of departure traffic.
1. DEPARTURE FLOW PROCEDURES:
a. Obtain the ATIS information.
b. After receiving your ATC clearance, contact Kennedy Ground on 121.9 when
ready to taxi and advise which taxiway you will exit the ramp area.
c. When the pilot advises that the aircraft is ready to taxi, Ground Control shall
instruct the pilot to 'MONITOR Ground Control on (frequency) and WAIT FOR A
CALL.'
NOTE: At this time if the departure delay is increasing, Gatehold may issue an
'Expect Taxi Time .' This is the beginning of the transition to Gatehold
procedures.
2. GATEHOLD PROCEDURES:
a. Obtain the ATIS information, which will include the broadcast: 'Gatehold Proce-
dures in effect'.
b. After receiving ATC clearance, contact Kennedy Gatehold on 125.05.
c. When Severe Weather Avoidance Plan (SWAP) procedures are in effect, the ATIS
information will include a broadcast to that effect. Pilots may be instructed to
contact Gatehold on initial contact for delay information.
d. Gatehold will issue an ' Expect Taxi Time ' to the flight crew predicated on the
delay factors involved:
(1) Restrictions:
(a) Enroute (Miles in Trail)
(b) Local
(c) Expected Departure Clearance Time (EDCT)
(d) Airport Conditions (Closures)
(e) Weather
(2) Proposed departure time.
NOTE: This time cannot be earlier than the current time or the filed proposed
time on the flight progress strip.
e. To ensure the integrity of the departure flow, the flight crew must ensure push
back and engine start to meet issued taxi times.
f. When operationally advantageous, Gatehold will issue an 'Expect Engine Start
Time.' Examples: excessive delays, weather, etc.
g. As delay changes occur, pilots can expect to receive updated information, there-
fore flight crews shall monitor and maintain radio contact with Gatehold at all
times. Failure to respond to two (2) successive calls or the inability to taxi at
the issued taxi time, will require the aircraft to be re-sequenced into the depar-
ture flow at a later time.
NOTE: Failure to monitor Gatehold after being instructed to remain on the fre-
quency for any update/revision, shall terminate ATC liability for any
delays incurred.
h. Flight crews of commuter/general aviation aircraft that cannot transmit/
receive unless engine(s) are running, shall advise Gatehold so that an alternate
procedure can be arranged.
i. When the pilot advises that the aircraft is ready to taxi, Gatehold shall instruct
the pilot to 'MONITOR Ground Control on (frequency) and WAIT FOR A CALL .'

3. GENERAL INFORMATION
a. Every reasonable effort will be made to provide advance information on the
implementation of these procedures, either via the ATIS or the Atlanta IDS4
systems.
b. Departure delays will be computed allowing for an average taxi time of fifteen
(15) minutes. This time may be increased during periods when taxi operations
are restricted due to weather elements, field conditions, etc.
4. DEFINITIONS
The following definitions shall be used in accordance with the Pilot/Controller
Glossary:
Expected Departure Clearance Time (EDCT) - The runway release time assigned to
an aircraft in a controlled departure time program and shown on the flight
progress strip as an EDCT.
Monitor - (When used with communication transfer) listen on a specific frequency
and stand by for instructions. Under normal circumstances do not establish com-
munications.
Proposed Departure Time (P Time) - The time a scheduled flight will depart the
gate (scheduled operators) or the actual runway off time for nonscheduled opera-
tors. For EDCT purposes, the Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATC-
SCC) adjusts the 'P' time for scheduled operators to reflect the runway off times.
Severe Weather Avoidance Plan (SWAP) - An approved plan to minimize the affect
of severe weather on traffic flows in impacted terminal and/or ARTCC areas.
SWAP is normally implemented to provide the least disruption to the ATC system
when flight through portions of airspace is difficult or impossible due to severe
weather.
