Loading System Software Software
1Standard Software Upgrade

The system software resides in the system memory, so loading software using disks and
the system"s compact disk (CD) drive is not normally required. It may be necessary to
load software if it is received as part of a system upgrade.

NOTE While loading the new software version, selecting Retain Current
Preset will retain all enabled features and the user-defined settings
for system presets, QuickSets, and OB tables and formulas. Se-
lecting Initialize Preset resets all settings to factory default set-
tings and deletes all enabled features and the user-defined
settings for the system presets, QuickSets, and OB tables and for-
mulas. The selection of Initialize Presets may require the confirma-
tion of language selections that are installed with the system
software.

Updating and Reloading System Software 0

1. With the system powered on, insert the System Disk into the CD drive located below the
control panel on the front of the ultrasound system.
2. Press the F6 key to access the system presets.
The system displays the Preset Main Menu screen.
3. Select the down arrow at the bottom of the left pane of the Preset Main Menu to access
the Serviceability menu.
4. Select System/Language from the Serviceability menu.
The system displays language and system selections on the right side of the screen.
5. Select Retain Current Preset.

NOTE Selecting Initialize Preset deletes all the user-defined settings for
the system presets, QuickSets, and OB tables and formulas; this
selection may set the language to English. When selecting Initial-
ize Preset, Siemens recommends to first make backups of system
presets, QuickSets, and OB tables and formulas; enabled features
must be reloaded using the original source media.

6. Select the Upgrade System button.

If Retain Current Preset was selected, wait approximately two minutes for the system
to display the following message: Install Finished.
If Initialize Preset was selected, the system displays a caution message.

- Selecting Yes displays a message that instructs to restart the system. All the us-
er-defined settings for the system presets, QuickSets, and OB tables and formulas
are then deleted and the language is usually set to English.
- Select No displays the System/Language screen again; manually back up the sys-
tem presets, QuickSets, and OB tables and formulas. Perform the backup procedure
and then start again at step 1 of this software update/reload procedure.
7. Select the Shut Down button.
The system status changes to standby.
8. Wait 20 seconds and then press the Standby button to power on the system.
The system displays a progress bar at the bottom of the screen as system software
loads. When the process is completed, the system displays the message “Restart the
system”.
9. Press the CD drive Eject button and remove the System Disk.

NOTE Selecting Initialize Preset during this procedure may change the
system language. Use the system presets to select another lan-
guage. To change the language, press the F6 key, select the down
arrow at the bottom of the left pane of the Preset Main Menu, select
System/Language from the Serviceability Menu, select another
language, and then select the Change Language button. Wait for
the system to power off and then press the Standby button to pow-
er on the system.

10. Before using the system for the first time after a software update/reload, press the
Standby button to power off the system again, wait 20 seconds, and then press the
Standby button to power on the system.

OS-System Disk 0

CAUTION Use extreme caution when loading OS-System Disk software.

¹ The OS-System Disk overwrites the system"s hard drive.

The OS-System disk is an auto bootable CD. If inserted in the CD drive, the disk will over-
write the local hard drive while cycling power to the ultrasound system.

1. With the system powered on, insert the OS-System Disk into the CD drive.
2. Press the Standby button to power off the system.
3. Wait 20 seconds and then press the Standby button to power on the system.
The system displays an “R” prompt on the image screen in approximately five minutes.
4. Remove the OS-System Disk from the CD drive.

onds, and then press the Standby button to power on the system.

Software-Based Option Upgrade 0

Perform an upgrade or unload a software-based option (feature) on the ultrasound system

using a key disk (USB memory stick). One key disk is required to upgrade one option per
system. A key disk cannot be in used to concurrently upgrade an option on multiple sys-
tems. If subsequently unloaded, the option key disk can be loaded on a different SONO-
LINE G20 ultrasound system.
Observe the following precautions when using a key disk:

1. Insert only one key disk at a time.

2. Do not remove the key disk during the option upgrade or unload.

Upgrading a Software-based option

1. Insert the media containing the option into one of the USB ports on the I/O panel.
2. Press the F6 key.
The system displays the Preset Main Menu.
3. Select Installation from Key Disk from the Options menu.
4. Select the Install button.
The system displays a confirmation dialog box.
5. Select the OK button.
The system displays a message box as the key disk flashes while the option is loaded.
When the process is complete, the system displays a new message box.
6. Select the OK button.
The option is listed on the Installed Option screen.
7. Remove the key disk.
