Ciena Corporation Files Patent Application for Systems and Methods for Handling Performance
Monitoring Data.

New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- USA based Ciena Corporation filed patent application for systems and methods for
handling performance monitoring data. The inventor is Kumar Vikas.

Ciena Corporation filed the patent application on Sept. 19, 2008. The patent application number is
2196/DEL/2008 A. The international classification number is H04J14/00.

According to the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, "The present disclosure provides
systems and methods for handling performance monitoring (PM) data in a database in a manner that supports
different PM data sets from different network element (NE) device types in an integrated manner. The present
invention defines a single database structure that can be utilized to store, handle, retrieve, etc. PM counters
from multiple NEs including NEs of different types, e.g. SONET/SDH NE, DWDM NE, optical switch, Ethernet
switch, etc. The single database enables an efficient mechanism to handle PM data in a uniform way across a
network with different device types."

2. Microsoft Procurement Moves to the Cloud with Hiperos

Hiperos, LLC, a provider of on-demand solutions for extended enterprise management, announced today that

Valentin Software, a developer of solar PV and solar thermal design and simulation software, and SunReports,
a provider of performance monitoring solutions for residential and small commercial solar installations, have
partnered to close the loop on estimation tools and provide performance data to the solar industry.
