President, Plastindia Foundation

Dear Friends,
The most eagerly awaited event of the
global plastics industry, PLASTINDIA 2018 -
10th edition of the international plastics
exhibition, conference and convention
organised by Plastindia Foundation
and supported by the Department of
Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry
of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government
of India, Government of Gujarat and
iNDEXTb, now open for you with infinite
opportunities. Being held for the second
successive time at the most modern
exhibition venue at Gandhinagar,
Gujarat between 7th and 12th February,
2018, it promises to be an exciting and
enriching show for all the participants; be
it exhibitors, visitors as well as students
from India and abroad, to take their K. K. Seksaria
business, profession and knowledge President
to the next level. I am confident that Plastindia Foundation
everyone will have a pleasant experience
and get value for their money.
This time, PLASTINDIA 2018 has received tremendous response from the
exhibitors as well as visitors, both from India and overseas resulting in
surpassing of the records of all previous editions. This has been possible
due to tireless voluntary efforts for promotions and preparations by NEC
team comprising of the plastics industry captains, coupled with successful
implementation of automation processes for the various exhibition services.
Apart from regular concurrent events like PROPLAST, International Conference,
PLASTICON Awards function and Exhibitors’ Gala Nite being held with the
PLASTINDIA exhibitions, a unique B2B connect programme viz. Meet-2-Trade:
The Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) has been organized, for the first time,
for hosting international buyers to meet the exhibitors during PLASTINDIA
2018 and do mutually rewarding business deals. The challenging task to
conduct this B2B connect programme has been undertaken by one of our
Founder Members, The Plastics Export Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL) with
the proactive support of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government
of India. The objective of this initiative is to bring 600 specially selected
international buyers to interact with exhibitors directly, thereby creating a
strong bond for business, networking, tie-up, and bilateral understanding
that would help both to extract maximum value.
Special industry pavilions are also being organised on medical and healthcare,
sports and fitness equipment, composites, automobile and robotics, transport
and infrastructure, and 3D printing to facilitate business collaboration and
trade alliances, as these sectors are direct consumers of plastics and allied
products and contribute significantly to the nation’s economy.
There is a special pavilion on the education activity undertaken by Plastindia
Foundation. Plastindia International University (PIU) being set up by the
Foundation at GIDC Dungra, Vapi will be a unique kind of a university for
the plastics industry where it will not only cater to the students of plastics
engineering, but will also upgrade the technical and entrepreneurial skills
as required by the plastics industry. The Foundation has a collaboration
with one of the globally renowned educational institution in plastics, the
University of Massachusetts (UMass) Lowell, USA for the PIU project; they
are also participating in this exhibition at the PIU stall.
On behalf of the members of the Managing Committee of Plastindia
Foundation, National Advisory Board (NAB), PLASTINDIA 2018 and National
Executive Council (NEC), PLASTINDIA 2018 and myself, I would like to express
herewith my profound gratitude to you all for extending your continued
tremendous response to PLASTINDIA shows time and again.

Polymer Sector Expected
to Clock 12% Plus Growth
This Year
“The industry, taking all challenges in its stride, has grown
by about 12% in the last 3 years. It is projected to grow to
around 20 Mn tonne by 2025,” highlights Arvind M. Mehta
in dialogue with POLYMERS Communiqué.

Q. According to you, how has been

the growth of the Indian plastics
industry in the last 3 years?
The industry, taking all challenges in its
stride, has grown by about 12% in the
last 3 years inspite of lower GDP growth,
demonetisation in 2016-17 and introduction
of GST in July, 2017.
However, things have stabilised
now. The polymer sector is
expected to clock around
Rs. 1.2 lakh crore, 12 Mn tonne
i.e. about 12% plus growth
this year. It is projected to
grow to around 20 Mn tonne
by 2025. There is significant
potential due to the current
low per capita consumption of
10 kgs against 90 - 100 kgs
in U.S.A. and 50 kgs

BOPET: Improved Productivity, Simultaneously Reduced
Energy Consumption At Plastindia 2018,
German Brückner
Brückner Maschinenbau’s latest 10.4 m technology stands for
an improved overall profitability: highest output and productivity
Maschinenbau is
currently available, optimal production stability, minimised presenting
operating costs per unit output and a reduced specific energy up-to-date
consumption. All this without any compromise to the unique BOPET solutions for
film properties is reachable with Brückner’s technology.
film producers
At Plastindia 2018, Brückner is also presenting proven benchmarks on the Indian
in the BOPET film industry, such as the use of advanced twin screw subcontinent.
extrusion technology for improved melt quality, also eliminating
energy-consuming crystallisation and drying of the resin. Another
highlight: MD stretching technology for stretching ratios above
4.5, leading to highly coveted isotropic film properties.
BOPP: Highest Speeds Within the
Industry
Brückner’s high yield BOPP lines offer the
utmost productivity: upto 10.4 m working
width, 600 m/min production speed and
an annual output of upto 60,000 tonnes.
Plenty of innovations are the basis for this,
e.g. newly developed sliding materials
are available for the chain track systems,
reducing the lubrication oil consumption
by more than 50%. All developments
have their focus on higher efficiency,
reduced energy consumption, reduced
maintenance efforts, less consumables –
hence, higher profits by selling
top-quality films.
Innovative Battery Separator Film
Technology
Lithium-ion batteries are an important part
of the growing electro-mobility sector,
whether in e-bikes, electric cars, e-scooters
or as energy storage units in portable
electronic devices such as notebooks or
smartphones. The markets in China, Japan
and Korea are already booming, for the
populous Indian subcontinent, there is a
huge potential - and thus a big chance for
far-sighted film producers.
The separator is crucial in the batteries
for function, capacity, charging time
and service life. For the manufacture
of battery separator film, Brückner
offers various process technologies. At
Plastindia 2018, the best of both worlds
is being presented:
l Sophisticated and customised
line concepts for the wet battery
separator film production - for highest
productivity and flexibility.
l Patented Evapore line concept
including full process know-how and
film guarantees - for energy efficiency
and low production costs.
At the joint Brückner Group booth,
besides Brückner Maschinenbau, visitors
will also meet Brückner Servtec, with their
solutions for the profitable operation of
film stretching lines; Kiefel, showing the
latest developments for the packaging,
automotive, medical & appliance industry,
and PackSys Global, presenting advanced
packaging equipment.

Q. Your expectations of the Union
Budget 2018.
Besides furthering incentives for ‘ease

increase the limits of SMEs by 3 - 4
times, which is Rs. 10 crore now. There is
really no big advantage to SMEs now in
manufacturing, marketing, finance and
many other spheres.
If the banks are allowed to take little

In comparison, if the same Rs. 1000

leading to a recovery of Rs. 900 crore
which will lead to higher productivity

Q. What is the global sentiment
towards the Indian plastics
industry? For what reason?
Indian plastics industry is now well
recognised, globally. There are world scale
polymer producers in the country now.
The converting industry also has quality
and branded players. Consumption
potential of India is significant now.
‘Make in India’ initiatives will also
attract more and more global players in
the field. The country’s manufacturing
sector is expected to jump from being
12th largest in the world to a forecasted
7th position by 2025.
India’s plastics export is poised to cross
USD 8 billion due to its positive growth
trend. The industry / Plexconcil is working

increase plastics export multifold from
the above figure. The plastics export market
is a USD 800 billion market globally.
