BARKADA KONTRA DROGA

INTRODUCTION

Vigorous on its mandate in protecting the students from

the ill effects of dangerous drugs and as its contribution to the
Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, the
Department of Education (DepEd) through the leadership of
Sec. Leonor M. Briones, is strengthening its National Drug
Education Program (NDEP).
DepEd articulated that NDEP is a comprehensive
educational program, which provides a holistic approach in
preventing and eliminating the menace of drugs in the country.
Further, the NDEP also enables all sectors to work
collaboratively – with the school system as the core – thereby
unifying all sectoral endeavors.
NDEP has five components that the DepEd builds on to
create awareness on the ill effects of using illegal drugs as
follows: a) curriculum and instruction; b) co-curricular and
ancillary services; c) teacher and staff development; d) parent
education and community outreach; and e) research,
monitoring and evaluation.
Lamo National High School NDEP has been
implementing the NDEP for years now, to prevent drug use
and abuse among students. The school sees the need to
continuously strengthen it because of the rampant cases of
drug-related incidents in the community and to support the
Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs. Thus,
the Supreme Student Government (SSG), Guidance Counselor
and the School Nurse collaborated to formulate such group,
the Barkada Kontra Droga.
It is worth mentioning that Lamo National High School
strengthens the program implementation by:
a. Establishing Barkada Kontra Droga Subgroups in
schools such as Laruan Kontra Droga (sports),
Musika/Sayaw/Drama Kontra Droga (music, dance and
drama), Sining Kontra Droga (arts), Kalikasan Kontra
Kalikasan (Environmental Advocates) and
Bikers/Runners Kontra Droga.
b. Intensifying anti-drug abuse information campaigns by
creating NDEP corner in every classroom, integration to
the curriculum, giving of flyers about drugs and health
issues to the community and nearby community, and
symposiums.
c. Involving Parent-Teacher Community Association and
student organizations in drug abuse prevention activities.
It is also worth mentioning that Lamo National High
School had been partners in the Barangay Council and LGU-
Dupax del Norte to campaign these anti-illegal drug initiatives.
Lastly, the stakeholders shared in pushing for the
relentless drive of eradicating drug problems in the school
level not only because it is required by the President but most
importantly, we are safeguarding the welfare of our students
against the menace of this phenomenon.
