TOPIC 1 - THE STAFF

Just as the modern battlefield presents significant

challenges to the commander, it also has an impact (an
effect) on staff functions at all levels.
It requires a high level (degree) of staff efficiency
(effectiveness) and a great deal of initiative and
coordination on the part of staff officers.
The staff assists the commander in decision making by
acquiring and processing information.
It is organized to be a cohesive unit to assist the
commander in accomplishing the mission.
It is required to provide accurate information to the
commander and subordinate units, and should anticipate
intelligence requirements, plan operations, issue
orders and control execution.
L'ETAT-MAJOR
De même que le champ de bataille présente des défis
significatifs au chef, il a également un impact sur les
fonctions d’état-major à tous les niveaux.
Il requiert (il exige il nécessite) un haut niveau (degré)
d’efficacité (d'efficience) de l’état-major et une grande
part d’initiative et de coordination de la part des officiers
d’état-major.
L’état-major assiste (aide) le chef dans l’élaboration de
la décision par l’acquisition et le traitement des
informations.
Il est organisé pour être une unité cohérente pour
assister (aider) le chef dans l’accomplissement de la
mission.
Il lui est demandé de (il est tenu de / il doit) fournir des
informations précises au chef et aux unités
subordonnées, et doit anticiper (prévoir) les besoins en
renseignement, planifier les opérations, diffuser des
ordres et contrôler l’exécution.
