R.A. no. 9152 - "National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008".
In mechanical engineering practice it is important to know the R.A. no. 9152 or also known as "National
Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008" which states the importance of educating the community
which includes schools, barangays and also companies, for them to know the importance of environmental
education. In mechanical engineering practice, environmental education is important because as a future engineer
we are involved in technical problems in air pollution, climate change, energy efficiency, environmental
sustainability, renewal energy, and timely issues facing global community. We also know that we build machines
that could destroy the environment, we could also use renewal energy that can help sustain the environment
which has no disadvantageous effect in the environment, and we are also involved in air pollutant which is cause
by combustion either vehicles or industrial plants.
Republic Act No. 9147 – Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act
Republic Act No. 9072 – National Caves and Cave Resources Management and Protection Act
Republic Act No. 7586 (National Integrated Protected Areas System Act)
REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9136 – “Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001”.
In mechanical engineering practice electric power is important. We need electricity in everyday living. As engineers
we are made to innovate and build machines that could save power. We are involved in building power plants and
machines that could generate or store power, such as, solar, wind, water, and any kinds of energy. We are made to
operate machine that generates power in the industry.
REPUBLIC ACT No. 6395 - AN ACT REVISING THE CHARTER OF THE NATIONAL POWER CORPORATION
In mechanical engineering practice, we should follow the rules and regulation of "Philippine Mechanical
Engineering Act of 1998". In this act, we need to complete the requirements needed to be a mechanical engineer.
As a future mechanical engineer, we are responsible in ,construction, erection, installation, alteration, or of the
performance of a mechanical engineering service in connection with the manufacture, sale, supply or distribution
of any mechanical works, project or plant. Mechanical engineers can teach also if they have master’s degree.
Republic Act No. 9003 -"Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000."
In mechanical engineering practice, it is our responsibility to set guidelines and targets for solid waste avoidance
and volume reduction through source reduction and waste minimization measures, including composting,
recycling, re-use, recovery, green charcoal process, and others, before collection, treatment and disposal in
appropriate and environmentally sound solid waste management facilities in accordance with ecologically
sustainable development principles. It is our job to ensure the safety of our employees in our work place, if we
neglect this waste it will greatly affect the safety of our workplace.
The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003) provides the legal framework for the systematic,
comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program of the Philippines, which shall ensure protection
of public health and the environment. It emphasizes the need to create the necessary institutional mechanisms
and incentives, and imposes penalties for acts in violation of any of its provisions (NSWMC, 2005b).
The implementing rules and regulations of R.A. No. 9003 are contained in the Philippines Department of
Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order No. 2001-34 (NSWMC, 2001).
The Republic Act 9003 specifically mandates all, especially the local government units, to adopt a systematic,
comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program which shall ensure protection of public health
and environment; utilize environmentally sound methods; set targets and guidelines for solid waste avoidance and
reduction; ensure proper segregation, collection, transport and storage of solid waste; promote national research
and development programs for improved SWM; encourage greater sector participation; retain primary
enforcement and responsibility of SWM with local government units; encourage cooperation and self-regulation
among waste generators; institutionalize public participation; and strengthen the integration of ecological solid
waste management, resource conservation and recovery topics into the academic curricula.
In mechanical engineering practice, we are involve in participating and planning on how prevent and control the
air pollution. As we know we are involve in emission of contaminants in air because we are involve in industrial
plants and also in the combustion of vehicles which uses diesel or gasoline. As mechanical engineers, we are
involved in polluting the air, so we should be responsible on how to lessen the adhere effect of the emission or
combustion in our community. It is help solve the problem in the environment.
National Emission Standards for Particulate Matter for Stationary Sources (DENR Administrative Order No. 2000 -
81, 7 Nov 2000)
National Emission Standards for Sulphur Oxides for Stationary Sources (DENR Administrative Order No. 2000 - 81, 7
Nov 2000)
National Emission Standards for Nitrogen Oxides for Stationary Sources (DENR Administrative Order No. 2000 - 81,
7 Nov 2000)
In mechanical engineering practice water is very important. Water could be used to produce mechanical or
electrical power. Water is also used in industrial plants. In mining water is also used. It is basically used in industry.
