Organizational Profile:
Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) is an umbrella organization for Shalamar Hospital
(SH), Shalamar Nursing College (SNC) and Shalamar Medical and Dental College (SMDC).
SIHS is undertaking various activities for healthcare service delivery to the disadvantaged
communities and provision of quality health education in Lahore. Shalamar Hospital, with its
outpatient facilities and the 24-hours emergency department is the primary source of free and
subsidized medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of patients of northern Lahore and
beyond.
Introduction
Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) is an umbrella organization for Shalamar Hospital
(SH), Shalamar Nursing College (SNC) and Shalamar Medical and Dental College (SMDC).
SIHS is undertaking various activities for healthcare service delivery to the disadvantaged
communities and provision of quality health education in Lahore. Shalamar Hospital, with its
outpatient facilities and the 24-hours emergency department is the primary source of free and
subsidized medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of patients of northern Lahore and
beyond. While providing the best healthcare facilities to its patients, Shalamar Hospital is
positioned to set highest standards of personalized, specialized, accessible and cost-effective
medical care to provide benchmarks for other healthcare facilities of Pakistan.
Shalamar Nursing College fulfills the vacuum of trained and qualified paramedical staff through
pre-service training of nurses, not only for Shalamar Hospital but also for other healthcare
institutions, whereas Shalamar Medical and Dental College, aims at extending the same spirit a
step further by producing quality medical professionals. SIHS aims to serve the community of
northern Lahore by providing quality medical treatment and developing healthcare capacity in
the society through education in the field of medical and health sciences. SIHS’s strategy
revolves around five key pillars – Availability of 24-hours highly responsive emergency and
trauma care; Provision of patient-centric healthcare services; Outreaching community for
provision of primary healthcare services; Developing a pool of capable human resource; and
Undertaking credible initiatives to demonstrate social responsibility.

the organizations under its aegis. We are committed to the provision and continuous
improvement of our facilities and expertise in order to provide these services. We strive to
improve community health by lending access to an environment that is state-of-the-art, safe,
efficient, cost-effective and team-oriented.
Our Norms
The accident and emergency, outpatient department and private clinics of Shalamar hospital
provide consultation to about 1200 walk-in patients during day and evening shifts. The number
of patients coming for consultation and diagnosis makes it one of the busiest hospital among the
private sector healthcare institutes. The outreach program caters the needs of people living in
outskirts of Lahore on alternate days. Both the cardiac care unit and surgical care unit make
executive use of the most updated technology in the critical patient care. Our nursing care is the
best – Thanks to the Shalamar nursing college located within the premise. Paeds nursery and
wards, gynae outpatient department, pathology laboratory and clinical services along with the
latest and upgraded equipments including CT-Scan are working to their full capacities, thanks to
our many friends and donors. Our project with international organization is a true depiction of
our commitment to help the burnt victims and children with birth defects.

Social responsibility
Social Responsibility means, being aware of our role in the betterment of society. Every
individual has rights and responsibilities. Rights of others are our responsibility and vice versa.
Volunteering is even a step further i.e, going beyond the call of duty and sacrificing for the
benefit of others.
Program overview
Student has to perform 65 hours volunteer work. Volunteers are not allowed to get directly
involved in any activity that includes cash handling. Volunteers are not allowed to go for Fund
Raising for any organization. Volunteer work may include facilitating or guiding patients, taking
care of disabled persons, teaching in non-formal schools, event designing and management,
marketing activities of social welfare etc.
Scope of VIS Activities:
Introduction of VIS program
We were advised to work as a volunteer at SHALAMAR INSTITUTE OF HEALTH
SCIENCES, LAHORE. We have to do the daily work assignments advised by our
managers to achieve their tasks completing 65 hours volunteer work. University of
central Punjab i.e. our respective institution has also put on some limitations regarding ,
not involving in cash handling activities , not allowed for fund raising , guiding patients ,
taking care of disabled person , event designing and management and marketing activities
of social welfare etc.
Focus Areas
o Their marketing department is actually where we are placed to give our services for 65
hours work time.
o We were allowed to join the seats along with the managers of the MARKETING AND
EVALUATION DEPARTMENT and performed day to day work office tasks like
mailing the work assigned to our managers , helping the patients by guiding them , and
event management tasks.
o We were also advised to go in the field visits to different places in Lahore for the
comprehensive information of our institution.

I did Orientation and Telemarketing at the very first day. On the next day I did Field visit to
MM. Alam Road, provide information to the businesses regarding SISH. On the very next day I
prepare Excel report and present it to the general manager regarding field visit and did Office
tasks. On the very next day I attended seminar on Tuberculosis (TB) helped in managing the
event. On the next day I did Field visit to Liberty Market Lahore. On the very next day I prepare
Excel report and present it to the general manager regarding field visit and did Office tasks
related to preparation for upcoming event. On the 7th day in office I did Event management tasks
and prepare gifts for the HEALTHY BABY COMPETITION, it is the largest event of the year in
SIHS. On the last day in the SIHS I Participate as a coordinator in healthy baby competition and
Guided and helped the Parents.
The Brief of my activities during my VIS at Shalamar Hopsipal starts from positioning in
addition to Telecommerce the earliest morning. I was headed to visit to MM. Alam Road, present
information for the businesses about our institution. Surpass report to the general manager and
did daily routine activities. Went to seminar with Tuberculosis (TB) served to organized the
event. Area visit to Liberty Marketplace Lahore, present information for the businesses about our
institution. Surpass report to the GM of SISH and did the same as the above visit. Occasion
administration prepare products with the HEALTHY BABY COMPETITION, it is the biggest
celebration with the 12 months within SIHS. Enjoyed in addition to organize HBC, Led in
addition to served their Mothers and fathers.
Recommendation:
It is a nice experience to take part in VIS program and held the community free of cost. We
recommend UCP to carry on this and make it the core part of every degree.
Suggestions:
VIS is a good program but it is very difficult for the job holder students to do because they never
get 13 day leave form the organization and perform VIS so we suggest UCP to Create some
different activity for on job students so that the carry their jobs and perform VIS as well. We
suggest to UCP to please guide the students at the start of the course or degree that they have to
perform VIS otherwise they suffer.
