A7 MARKING OF THE PRACTICAL REPORT:

DATE (when the experiment was conducted)

NO marks should be awarded if present, but must be deducted if missing!
AIM:
Aim will be given on the lab manual, read it through and understand it.
NO marks should be awarded.
APPARATUS:
- Sketch and labelled experimental set up 15%

METHOD:
List of activities to show how the experiment is performed will be given on the manual. NO
marks should be awarded.
THEORY:
For some experiment a straight forward use of the measured is not possible.
A given equation may be rearranged leading to variables that must be drawn, so that finally the
quantity asked for can be determined. Read!! Read!! this section before coming to the lab!!!
PRE-LAB QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED BEFORE YOU COME TO THE LAB.
RESULTS: (See Page 4 and 5)
(a) Measurements:
- Values of parameters that do not change in the experiment must be clearly identified and
given on top or below the table of results.
20%
- Tables must have a heading
- Columns must be identified with units
- Measured variables must be clearly identified with same significant figures
(b) Graph:
- Heading of graph (must also explain why plotting the graph)
- Scale of graph (more than half or full space of graph paper should be used)
- Each axis must be clearly identified with correct units
20%
- Measuring points must be indicated by or x, avoid using (blob).
- For all straight line graphs, draw the best straight line through the points
Calculations:
(c) - One example from each calculated column must be shown
- Scale for determination of slope
- Calculation of slope with units
20%
- Percentage error (If required).
- Show all calculations asked from the Analysis section.

CONCLUSSION: (See Page 11)

A brief description should be given whether the aim of the experiment is achieved or not, as well
25%
as a general overview of the experiment and problems encountered.
In the conclusion, where applicable, sources of errors (preferably a bullet list) should be given.
Reduce marks if incomplete or wrong. See Page 13 for writing a good conclusion.
