RESOLUTION CALLING ON ACTION IN WAKE OF RECENT SCHOOL

SHOTING TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS, AT PLACES OF

PUBLIC ACCOMODATION AND ACROSS AMERICA

BY THE BOARD:

WHEREAS, the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida has sparke4d a wave
of public outcry that mass killings by gun and other gun violence come to an end; and

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners, Hamilton County, Ohio,

believes it is altogether necessary and appropriate for it to weigh in on this subject and to
offer its voice in support of major change occurring through legislation and other
appropriate action designed to reduce gun violence and killings and specifically designed
to prevent mass killings by gun in the United States; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Hamilton County

Commissioners does hereby call upon the following action[s] or activities to take place
for the public purpose of reducing gun violence and killings and specifically designed to
prevent mass killings by gun in the United States;

1. The Board by means of this Resolution does hereby call upon all legislative and
public bodies, local, state and federal, to take such action as is reasonable, lawful
and that can be implemented on a local, state and national scale, including
without limitation the adoption of such laws as can be lawfully enforced that will
be designed to prevent access to such mass killing weapons as have been used in
each of the mass killings since the seminal school shooting in Columbine through
to the most recent mass killing at Parkland Florida; and
2. The Board calls upon the Prosecutor for Hamilton County, Ohio and/or his
designees, to review and report within 30 days upon such specific actions that this
Board of County Commissioners may take to equally work to prevent access to
such weapons of mass killing by gun; and
3. The Board of Hamilton County Commissioners in concert with local state
and federal legislators, and with the private business community,
shall work to discern how to encourage and incentivize private sector
innovation and creativity on how to harden so-called "soft targets"
against being targets for such shootings including without limitation
working with the Hamilton County Development Company (“HCDC”)
Office of Innovation and Creativity on how to make Hamilton C0unty
the epicenter of innovation into new protective scanning equipment
ot other means of scanning persons entering such so-called “soft
targets” for possession of guns of mass killing capacity without
unduly impeding the ability of the public to come and go at such
venues, or any such other prevention and protective technologiesThe
intent is to render Hamilton County the Laboratory for such creativity
and innovation on such technological advances.
 ADOPTED at a regularly adjourned meeting of the Board of Commissioners of
Hamilton County, Ohio this 21st Day of February, 2018
