Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter aims to explain properly the process and procedures used to

construct the Online Information System of SLSU Institutional and Externally Funded

Researches. This will contain the research locale of the study, research design, source of

data, data gathering, respondents of the study, flowchart, and statistical treatment.

Research Locale

The study was conducted in Southern Luzon State University in Lucban Quezon

with the information of researches that has been published. It will focus on study for the

development of system for Research Services, office of Management Information System

(MIS) and Research Coordinators of each college departments.

Research Design

The study is the development of an Online Information System of SLSU

Institutional and Externally Funded Researches. This will provide an information system

for the published researches an organized storing and keeping of data and transfering

these to the internet for the users to access. Gathered data is presented by each categories

and sorted out from the college department constructed the study and years the study was

published. With enough knowledge, researchers used programming languages like

HTML, Javascript and CSS with the help of MYSQL database and determined the

acceptability of the system.

Procedures/Data Collection

The collected information and data are primarily came from the Research

Services where the documents and information of researches are stored.

Personal interview was conducted to gather information for utilizing this study is

from the office of Management Information System (MIS) and the department of

Research Services.

Research Instrument

In order to develop a highly acceptable and qualified Online Information

System of SLSU Institutional and Externally Funded Researches, researches prioritize the

idea of efficiency, a well organized information system for the users and for the

administrator. To acquire the acceptability of the system, evaluators will test the system

in different aspects like Graphical User Interface (GUI), Efficiency, Usability,

Compatibility, Function Suitability, Maintainability and Reliability. The rating for

Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be based if the system’s overall design is pleaasing

and user friendly at the same time. Efficiency will pertain on usage of this system,

recognizing the time and effort efficiency. The usability which is aiming the usability of

the system to be use and achieve its main purpose to serve as an online information

system. Compatibility is the idea of being suitable to any hardware and platforms without
reaching high requirements for its conveniency. The function suitability is meeting the

desired function of the system for the user and the administrator. Maintainability is the

assurance of the system to be operated succesfully for a long timespan and having ease at

maintaining whenever a failure occurs. Last is the Reliability which defines whether the

information containing the system can be depended by the users.

Evaluators will rate these phases at (4) highest score and (1) which is the lowest

rating. The computed total mean will guarantee if it meets the acceptability of the system

outout.

Respondents

The respondents of this study was categorized into three groups. The first group

known as the MIS Employee, the second group consisted of SLSU Students, the third

group is the IT experts.

Statistical Treatment

Getting the weighted mean is the process used by the researchers as a statistical

treatment of the study. The weighted mean will stands for the performance and

acceptability of the Online Information System of SLSU Institutional and Externally

Funded Researches

This is the formula for getting the weighted mean:

WM = 4n+3n+2n+1n___
N

Where:

WM = Weighted Mean

n = frequency of responses

N = total number of respondents

For the analization of the result taken, this table will be the basis for getting the computed

weighted mean

Scale Range Scale Qualitative Description

4 3.26-4.00 Highly Acceptable

3 2.50-3.25 Acceptable

2 1.76-2.50 Unacceptable

1 1.00-1.75 Highly Unacceptable

System of SLSU Institutional and Externally Funded Researches. Starting from gathering

all the data needed from the source to systematical analyzation. Next is designing the

system, then it will undergoes several testing. Finally, it will take evaluation if the desired

output came out and is acceptable.

This figure above represents the timetable in building this system from start to

finish. The expansion of time is from planning to creating, and design the system until the

system goes under evaluation and testing from the users. The duration of each phases

depend on the complexity and time needed to accomplish each objectives. It shows that

the least amount of time is allotted on planning and the rest has more allotment as they

needed.
