Homework 2
1 (25 %) Compound C may be synthesized from A and B, Eq. (1), in the presence of an
appropriate catalyst in a batch reactor:
If the gas the gas reactants are added to the reactor in 1:3 proportions respectively at
7 atm and in a range of temperatures:
a (10 %) Set up the stoichiometric table for the reaction in terms of conversion.
b (7 %) Plot the variation of Keq vs T.
c (8 %) Plot the equilibrium conversion vs T.
Additional information:
The heat capacity for each compound can be obtained with Eq. (2); the values of the
constants are given in Table 1.

a (12 %) If the reversible, elementary, gas phase reaction occurs at 313 K in a constant
volume reactor of 1250 mL, with an initial charge to the reactor of 2 mol of A, 3 mol of
B, and 0.5 mol of C, find the equilibrium conversion and the final pressure of the
system. Plot the concentration profile of the species and the conversion in the reactor as
a function of time.
b (12 %) Now consider that the reversible occurs at 313 K in a variable volume
(constant pressure) reactor with an initial volume of 950 mL. For a reactant charge to
the reactor of 2 mol of A, 3 mol of B, and no C, find the equilibrium conversion. Plot
the reactor volume, the concentration profile of species and the conversion in the reactor
as a function of time.
c (16 %) Finally consider the effect of adding an inert gas, I, to the reacting mixture.
For a reactant charge to the reactor of 1 mol of A, 3 mol of B, 0.5 C, and different
quantities of I (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 5 mol) in a variable volume (constant pressure) reactor with
an initial volume of 325 mL. Find the equilibrium conversion, plot the reactor volume,
the concentration profile and the conversion in the reactor as a function of time.
Comment about the effect of the addition of the inert specie in the reactor?
4 (10 %) Find the reaction rate parameters (i.e., reaction order, specific reaction rate at
one temperature, and the activation energy) for three reactions discussed in the
literature. The references where the information was found should be included.

Para las tareas, tener en cuenta:
