Fire Fighters T he skyline of the Village of Clanwilliam changed forever this week as
the community’s last remaining grain elevator was brought down.
During its heyday, Clanwilliam’s elevator row, along the Canadian

Relic Run
Northern Railway line, featured five elevators with the first four being
built during 1903. It is believed the first elevator, which was completed

in May 1903, belonged to the Northern Elevator Company. Other com-
pany names appearing on Clanwilliam elevators over the years includ-
ed Canadian, which would later become United Grain Growers, West-
ern Canada Flour Mills, Farmer’s, Inter-Ocean, Ogilvie and Manitoba
Pool.
