The SUNY Art Exhibition is held annually and showcases artwork created by SUNY’s (State University of New York) talented student artists from across New York State. The Jamestown Community College art
department selected five students to represent them in the state-wide exhibition.
This triptych set of illustrated self portraits were designed to enter the Jamestown Community College 2017 Student Art and Design Exhibition. They were also crafted to be central parts of my portfolio and were
designed to capture my emotion, expressive nature and persona. The portrait on the far right was the New Media runner-up in the Jamestown Community College 2017 Art and Design Exhibition and the portrait on
the far left was one of five pieces of work from Jamestown Community College to be entered in the SUNY Art Exhibition.
JAMESTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2017 STUDENT ART AND DESIGN EXHIBITION
Promotional poster and banner showcased around Jamestown Community College and the local community.
The Jamestown Community College Student Art and Design Exhibition is held annually at The Weeks Gallery in Jamestown, New York, USA. Over four hundred people attend the exhbition
each year. The poster and banner were designed with the idea of shifting importance to the student in mind, referencing and drawing inspiration from Michelangelo’s ‘The Creation of
Adam.’ The illustration swapped out the hand of Adam with a hand holding a pencil, representing art students at Jamestown Community College. The concept was to give power to art
students that may often be overlooked and overshadowed within the educational system.
THE WEEKS GALLERY AMERICAN
SCENE: LIFE IN THE 1930s
EXHIBITION
An open-up mailer invitation for a Weeks Gallery
exhibition sent to over six hundred institutions
and local businesses in Jamestown, New York,
USA and surrounding areas.
The American Scene: Life in the 1930s exhibition
held at The Weeks Gallery displayed work from the
collection of Marlin Casker, SUNY Oswego, and Indiana
State University. The Weeks Gallery is a gallery located
in Jamestown, New York that holds several local
exhibitions throughout the year. The exhibition focuses
on the fine art prints depicting life in America during
the Depression era.

The brief was to create a black and white mailer that

embodied this era. It also included researching the
graphic design from the 1930s and loosely mimicking
the style and typography from that era while giving it a
modern twist.
Jamestown community college FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS BOOKLET
A twelve page booklet created using the Jamestown Community College brand book.
This booklet was created detailing the financial aid and scholarships available for students following the rules and branding guides of the most recent Jamestown Community
College campaign. The booklet needed to be simply laid out and easy for current students, faculty and prospective students to navigate. Segments and pages are thoughtfully
designed to display information accordingly. Simple graphic icons pull the overall design together and complement text.
Jamestown jackals BRANDING 2017 PLAYER POSTERS
A set of twelve player posters sold at Jamestown Jackals home games.
The Jamestown Jackals are a minor league basketball team based in Jamestown, New York. Their twelve game home schedule sees over four hundred people in attendance per game.
The Jamestown Jackals wanted a set of individual player posters for their whole roster to be sold at home games. The primary aim was to brand and design a set of recognizable print
merchandise for home fans. The secondary aim was to create poster layouts that are avid, dynamic and pleasing to the eye that work well with each player.

JAMESTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE WEBSITE LANDING PAGE
Redesigned and updated version of a landing page on the Jamestown Community College website.
The old design is shown on the left and the new design on the right.
The brief was to recreate the Jamestown Community College website landing page with the new brand guide, style and image. The updated design makes use of the most recent campaign
colour palette and approach, working seamlessly with the main website.
“Read between the lines”
is a book that intends to be used as more than a poetry book. I
intended for this book to be used as a source of empowerment and

to be used as a way of gaining a deeper understanding into the way

words can become life and have an impact on how we as humans
think and feel. I want for readers to look past the rhymes and look

into the stories and pictures that are created through poetry. I urge
readers to read and think between the lines.

READ BETWEEN

JOSEPH OMOLE

JOSEPH OMOLE READ BETWEEN THE LINES

A thirty-three paged book comprised of poetry written by Joseph Omole.
Joseph Omole is an upcoming, young and talented East London raised spoken word artist and traditional poet. Read Between the Lines serves as his second book and is
currently being sold on Amazon. Omole wanted an illustrated collage of himself surrounded by the subjects that are detailed within the book. The brief was to create a
cover that seamlessly transitioned from front to back while giving readers an insight about the book’s content before opening it. The book touched on issues of religion,
money depression and more. Omole wanted the design to take a darker appearance than his earlier works, but still remain slightly light-hearted at the same time.
MORIYAMA DAIDO DIGITAL
PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT
A series of seven digital photography photos
inspired by Moriyama Daido.
The penultimate assignment of my digital
photography class gave us the task to adapt and
imitate the shooting style of a photographer of our
choice. Moriyama Daido is a Japanese photographer
noted for his black and white images depicting
Japanese culture and postwar Japan. I emulated his
use of stark contrast between dark and light, unique
frame and composition and use of negative space.
RICHARD AVEDON DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT
A series of seven digital portrait photos imitating Richard Avedon.
The final assignment of my digital photography class gave us the task to
emulate and twist the work and style of an assigned photographer. Richard
Avedon shoots recognizable black and white portraits that capture distinct
emotions from the subject. His use of contrast, lack of depth and lighting
contributes to his shooting style that I attempted to imitate. I made use of
colour and playful backdrops against the varying skin tones of my subjects for
contrast. Each subject was a notable and popular student figure of Jamestown
Community College, paralleling Avedon’s habit of photographing celebrities.
GESTALT PRINCIPLES 2-D DESIGN PROJECT
Two designs utilizing Gestalt principles and compositional structures through pen and paper.
This project was part of a 2-D design and composition class. The project involved composing specific structural
compositions and the utilization of design principles associated with Gestalt theory. The principles addressed in the two
designs are similarity, continuance, proximity and closure.

SATURATION INVESTIGATION 2-D DESIGN PROJECT

Two designs executed with specific saturation and neutralization through marker and paper.
This project was part of a 2-D Design and composition class. The brief was to create two similar yet distinct designs that
play with and express the idea of saturation and neutralization through shapes, line colour and form. The design on the
right required components within a composition that are rigidly structured. The shapes and components were to relate
to the edges of the picture plane on a grid like format. The design on the left required shapes and components within the
composition to be placed in an intuitive manner. The shapes were arranged to appear random with visual rhythm.
MARIAN ENUME ILLUSTRATED 3-PIECE SELF Portraits
Artwork printed on plastic backed vinyl.
These commissioned illustrated posters were based off of the original triptych set created for the 2017 Jamestown Community College Art and Design Exhibition. However, the client
wanted the illustrations to appear softer, more feminine and round. With this in mind, the set makes use of rounded strokes and a more pastel like colour palette.
