Nurses are required to practice the full extent of their training and education. They are
expected to be total partners with the fellow physicians as well as other health
professionals. That is why a strong leader who is effective and is competent in planning and
policy development is required.
Within the realm of healthcare provision,nursing counts,and effective leadership is
essential for motivating,inspiring including engaging stakeholders,clients and constituents.
To sustain a vibrant,efficient and satisfied team,dedicated leadership is required and this
ascertains sustained quality service delivery. This explains why transformational
leadership plays a central role in promoting satisfaction within the nursing sector.
How have you demonstrated the application of leadership concepts or theories in
your practice?
The scope of transformational leadership has provided a fertile ground on how I handle
teamwork,managerial activities,planning and budgeting. As a nurse,this has played a vital
role in the way I have defined my nursing direction as a career,the way I relate with my
colleagues,clients and other people from different backgrounds. The healthcare is in nature
metamorphic,as a consequence I have opted to employ and exploit transformational
leadership style,it has greatly encouraged the manner in which I adopt or I have adopted to
the existing,new and emerging changes. Too,i have as result managed to realize the areas
that require total change,in the process I have inspired others and the result is a creation of
a common commitment and team in handling the given area.
What new insights have you developed from the application of a specific
leadership concept or theory?
The use of transformation leadership I have learned allows the nurses to embrace
teamwork,and adopting to the changing nursing dynamics in technology,service
provision,planning as well as mentoring others. The scope of this model arouses the need
for enthusiasm amongst the healthcare providers. Evaluating the broader scope of
transformational leader,it allows the individual or the teams involved to
develop,deploy,implement and practice effective leadership.

How has your perspective(s) changed as a result of applying the
concepts/theories?
The use of transformational leadership have given me a chance to understand the greater
value and significance of effective leadership within the nursing realm. This leadership
style inspires both the leader and the followers immensely. Individually,it has modified my
perception of nursing,leadership and the services delivery. It has given me a new meaning
of what nursing constitutes and why it is essential. Too,it has forged my insights of effective
leadership, I have learned the value of inspiring,stimulating and embracing individual
consideration. As a result,i have gained more selfconfidence,courage,charisma and
openness.
What advice would you give to other nursing students who want to develop their
leadership competencies?
Transformational leadership style is paramount in launching a successful nursing career.
As transformational leader you will have a duty to advocate for teamwork,propagating self
esteem among the staff members,inspiring and motivating others as to realize high
performance including empowering your team to be more engaging and participative. As a
leader you shall be required to demonstrated high level of trustworthiness including being
positive and having an encouraging outlook.
Transformational leadership is very important ,its presence paramount,particularly in
clinical spheres where fresh graduate nurses are in attendance. This type of leadership
qualities do help to promote healthy working environments for both employees and other
staff members and it is vital in producing improved patient satisfaction,staff as well as
retention of the employees.
