Research Methodology

This chapter covers the research method, research locale, population and sampling, research

instruments, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment

Methods of Research

The researcher will utilize the descriptive method. Descriptive method is used to describe

characteristics of a population phenomenon being studied. Descriptive is serving or seeking to describe

and it’s describing or classifying without expressing feeling or judging. Descriptive method can be explained

as a statement of affairs as they are present with the researcher having no control over variable.

Research Locale

The school of the respondents is at Balucuc High School located in Centro BalucucApalit

Pampanga. Balucuc High School is a idyllic place of learning. Balucuc High School is a company engage in

public high school. Balucuc High School was established way back in 1976. It was the second of the oldest

Barangay schools in the Municipality of Apalit Pampanga. It name derived itself from the word Balucuc

which also the name of the barangay. It is situated in the outskirt from the town proper and located in the

midpoint of the sitios. It is surrounded by a scenic beauty of an expansive countrified field that reflects the

people’s livelihood.

Population and Sampling

Non-probability sampling will be the type of sampling used by the researcher, quota sampling was

utilized in this research. Quota sampling is a non-probability sampling technique where in the assembled

sample has the same proportion of individual as the entire population with respect to known characteristics,

traits or focused phenomenon.

Research Instrument

The main instrument utilized in this research is the unstructured interview to justify and validate the

effect of using gadgets to the academic performance of the students.

The survey questionnaire made by the researcher help it process and validate the data that

researcher find. Survey questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions and other

prompts for the purpose of gathering information from respondents.

Data Gathering Procedure

The first step used is to ask permission from the principal to conduct the survey. The survey

questionnaires isdistributed to the respondents after securing the permit. Copies of the approved

questionnaire were distributed in order to gather the relevant data. Theinstrument was retrieve after days

were finish answering.

The sample of this study was composed of 30 selected Grade 10 students in Balucuc High School.

Gadgets used on studying
Based on the students, they use different gadgets like smart phones, ipad, tablet and laptop. Smart

phone has a percentage of 97 and tablet has a percentage of 3. In this table it shows that smart phone has

a big effect of students academic performance.

Gadgets on grades

Based on the students, when they use their gadgets it has a two outcome it’s either low or high.

Low grades has a percentage of 63, high grades has a percentage of 37. In this table it shows that when

students use their gadget it can affect their academic performance or grades.

Exposure of gadgets

Based on the students, when they use their gadgets it exposed their usage of it. It’s either thirty

minutes to one hour, two hours to four hours, five hours to nine hours and ten hours and above. In this

table it shows that students exposure has an effect of their academic performance.

Based on the students, when they use their gadgets it affects their attendance in school. It’s either

being absent or late or being on time. Being absent or late has a percentage of (57) and being on tim has a

percentage of 43. In this table it shows that gadget has an effect of student’s attendance.

Use of gadgets

Based on the students, they use their gadgets in different way like searching, leisure, and

entertainment. Searching has a percentage of 80, leisure has a percentage of 3 and entertainment has a

percentage of 17. In this table it shows that the use of gadget has an effect of students academic

performance.
