According to Cassie Dobson, academic anxiety can become more detrimental over time.

As a student’s
academic performance suffers, the anxiety level related to certain academic tasks increases (Huberty,
2012). Social anxiety can also affect a student’s academic performance. If a student has social anxiety,
the student might not be able to complete group tasks or might not feel comfortable asking for help in
class. Social anxiety can go along with or even lead to academic anxiety. Teaching students self-
regulation can reduce anxiety and increase academic performance (Ader & Erktin, 2010).

In table 1.2 it shows the anxiety level of Junior High School students when it comes to academic
performance. The rank of the anxiety; academic performance according to the frequency of choice is
4.5. Comparing the data, there are prevalent women experiencing academic performance than boys.
The tendency of woman to have higher dedication of having good grades is because they are more
conscious and diligent than male. They became anxious if their efforts didn’t pay off.

Enrico Gnaulati clinical psychologist based in Pasadena, California, and other combined the results of
boys’ and girls’ scores on the Head-Toes-Knees-Shoulders Task with parents’ and teachers’ ratings of
these same kids’ capacity to pay attention, follow directions, finish schoolwork, and stay organized they
discovered that boys were a whole year behind girls in all areas of self-regulation.
