Hydrate for a healthier you
Drinking more water is smart for your body and mind

The human body is about 60% water. That’s why proper hydration is so vital, especially on
hot summer days. Science has shown that drinking more water has many important health
benefits, such as:

• Energizing muscles and relieving fatigue

• Keeping skin looking clear and healthy
• Promoting weight loss*

And since you can get all of this for less than the cost of bottled water,** it’s easy to have
plenty of refreshing Brita® water on hand this summer. Pick up a Brita® pitcher and stock
up on filters now and stay hydrated all season long with better-tasting*** water from Brita®.

Brita® is a proud sponsor of

the Drink Up initiative to get
Americans to drink more water.
*Substituting water for higher-calorie beverages can help you cut calories.
**Buying one Brita® Pitcher Filter instead of 300 standard 16.9-oz. bottles can save you up to $85.
***Compared to tap water

Yin y ga: A fascia-nating practice

By Hana Medina
TWO YEARS AGO, after suffering a sports injury to
my hip, I found myself at a hot yoga studio, searching
for an activity that would aid my recovery. I was
surprised when the studio’s owner suggested I
attend not the heart-pumping, sweat-dripping
heated sessions, but her yin yoga classes: a
much slower yoga practice conducted at
room temperature.
While there are many styles of yoga,
two of the most popular styles in the U.S.
are hatha and vinyasa. Hatha yoga is
characterized by a series of poses that
involve standing, sitting and lying down.
The poses may be independent of each
other, and they’re held for several seconds. Vinyasa
yoga is a series of poses that are linked together through
transitional movements. This tends to be much faster
paced than hatha, but both types can be found in heated
or non-heated studios. Yoga has many facets, but from a
physical standpoint, these athletic versions focus on mus-
cle strength, which is why they are considered yang yoga.
In contrast, yin poses are usually done seated or lying
down, and they are held three to 10 minutes. What further

differentiates yin is that students are asked to relax their

muscles in a pose, which, ultimately, can increase mobility
and flexibility. For example, a yang-style seated forward
fold has you reaching for your toes, grabbing them if
you can and then pulling to bend deeper. In yin yoga, you
reach for your toes and then release the tension in your
muscles; your back rounds and your arms fall to the side.
This can result in appearing to be slumped over, depend-
ing on your flexibility (see Caterpillar). You stay this
way, allowing time and grav-
ity to draw your body
deeper. Not fidgeting
once you’ve found your
depth is also key to
this practice.

Nursery room contest winners

DO YOU HAVE a well-designed nursery? That’s what we asked Connection
readers in the January issue, in the Cutest Nursery Photo Contest. What we
discovered is that not only are many of our readers new parents, but when
it comes to designing a sanctuary for their tiniest family member, they are
very creative as well.
Of the more than 100 entries received, a first-, second- and third-place
winner was selected, as well as three honorable mentions. Entries were
chosen based on creativity, presentation and cohesiveness of design, and

Agatha Christie’s Poirot
HERCULE POIROT, the odd little retired

Haute cuisine
on the high seas Blu (left), aboard Celebrity Solstice, offers
dining exclusively for AquaClass guests.

Cruises’ newest vessels feature Qsine, playful

Trilogy. There’s also Tuscan Grille, an Italian
steakhouse with a nouveau twist, and Blu, an
exclusive restaurant for guests booked in
AquaClass accommodations. Blu serves up
healthful spa-inspired dishes that Celebrity
refers to as “clean cuisine.”
Princess Cruises has its Crown Grill, a
steakhouse experience, and Sabatini’s, which
places special emphasis on Italian and
Mediterranean dishes, with a focus on sea-
food. If you plan to eat dinner in the latter, you
may want to skip lunch; the portions are huge.
