1 Introduction

The purpose of this module is the handling of moveable bulkheads, tweendecks or

hatchcovers. Changing the position of a tweendeck, a bulkhead or a hatchcovers will
affect not only the weight and centre of gravity of the ship but also the bayplan,
shape of loadable decks or accessible cargo holds.

This manual will talk about “panels” meaning bulkheads or tweendecks or

hatchcovers, whatever may be the case.

2.1 Access of the Bulkheads/Tweendecks/Hatchcovers Window

You may add a new panel showing the Bulkheads/Tweendeacks/Hatchcovers

windows in the usual manner using a right mouse button in the Main Tab Control Bar
(see Macs3.NET manual page 16).

If your version of the Macs3 program has a Belco menu, you may alternatively open
a dialog showing the same window.

2.2 Elements of the Bulkheads/Tweendecks/Hatchcovers Window

The Bulkheads/Tweendeacks/Hatchcovers window shows a list containing all

available panels with their current position.

Furthermore the current panel situation is show in a side view a top view.

Normally you will use the mouse to change the positions of the panels (see 2.4).
Nevertheless there some buttons for special functions on the right top part of the
window.

2.3 The Buttons of the Bulkheads/Tweendecks/Hatchcovers Window

All off-board: All panels that are marked as “offboard possible” in the vessel
profile are put offboard. The weights of the panels are subtracted
from the deadweight. It may be possible that the weights of
certain panels are already included in the light weight distribution
of the vessel. If those panels are removed from the vessel by
putting them “offboard” this may lead to a negative weight
summary of all panels. All tweendecks and hatchcovers and
bulkheads are subsumed in the line “Hatchcovers”. So it can
happen the total weight in this line may be negative.

Reset: Puts all panels to their default position that are specified in the
vessels profile.

Open… /

Save as…: You may save the current hatchcover situation to a file with the
extension .bhxml.

2.4 Changing Panel Positions

In the side view and top view the panels are shown in their current positions as a
grey rectangle.

To change positions of panels you first have to select the panels you want to
change. Select the panels by mouse operation in the list or click the panels in the
side or top view.

You may select several panels in the side or top view by keeping the left mouse
button pressed and dragging a rectangle over the respective panels.

Selected panels are shown by a red rectangle in the graphics:

Panels that are “off-board” can be selected in the Panellist or by clicking (left mouse
button) on to the Panel off-board area (the violet rectangels on the bottom left corner
of the graphics).

When you selected one or several panels, all position that are designed for the
selected panel type are shown by violet rectangles.

To select the desired position for the selected panels, you click on it (left mouse
button) while keeping the <shift> key pressed.

You can select several position by keeping the left mouse button pressed and
dragging a rectangle over the respective panels while keeping the <shift> key
pressed.

After releasing the mouse button the panels will be moved to the selected position:

2.5 Changing Panel Positions with Preselection

Sometimes panel positions cannot be determined unambiguously by one mouse

click neither in the side view nor in the topview. E.g. if you take a look at the vessel
on the cover of this manual you will notice that it is not possible to select a single
tweendeck position by one mouse click.

In these cases the panel positions can be selected in two steps: 1. a preselection
and 2. the final selection within the preselection.

To preselect the panel positions you click or drag over the positions with the left
mouse button while keeping the <ctrl> key pressed.

Now the preselected positions will be green in the side and top view.

After that you select the final positions keeping the left mouse button pressed and
dragging a rectangle over the respective positions while keeping the <shift> key
pressed as described above. This final selection will be applied only to the
preselected positions.

Now the panels will be shifted to the selected positions.

2.6 Custom Mode

If specified in the vessel profile there is a custom mode where it is possible to

position a hatchcover anywhere on the vessel.

To switch to this mode right click on a hatchcover in the list or on the ships drawing.

A context menu appears where it is possible to assign the predefined modes to a

hatchcover. When “custom” is choosen the hatchcover is placed to the aft lower part
of the vessel and can be moved freely.

It is also possible to switch to another of the available modes like offboard or one of
the predifined fixed positions.

To move a hatchcover just change the VCG, TCG, LCG in the list by double click on
the item to change.

To change it in the ships drawing hold the <shift> key pressed and drag and drop
the particular hatchcover with the mouse.
