WARRANTY
Renishaw plc warrants its equipment provided that it is installed exactly
as defined in associated Renishaw documentation.

SAFETY
Pinch hazards exist between moving parts and between moving and static parts.
Do not hold the probe head during movements, or during manual probe changes.
Beware of unexpected movement. The user should remain outside of the full
working envelope of probe head/extension/probe combinations.
In all applications involving the use of machine tools or CMMs, eye protection is
recommended.
There are no user serviceable parts inside Renishaw mains powered units. Return
defective units to an authorised Renishaw Customer Service Centre.
Replace blown fuses with new components of the same type. Refer to the
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS section of the relevant product documentation.
For instructions regarding the safe cleaning of Renishaw products, refer to the
MAINTENANCE section of the relevant product documentation.
It is the machine supplier’s responsibility to ensure that the user is made aware
of any hazards involved in operation, including those mentioned in Renishaw
product documentation, and to ensure that adequate guards and safety interlocks
are provided.
Under certain circumstances the probe signal may falsely indicate a probe
seated condition. Do not rely on probe signals to stop machine movement.
SECURITE

SEGURIDAD
Existe el peligro de atraparse los dedos entre las distintas partes móviles y entre

ni durante los cambios manuales de la sonda.

Fuse replacement
There are two 2 Amp (T) slow-blow fuses which are used for all voltages (one is a
spare). Fuses are replaced as follows:

Remplacement du fusible
Deux fusibles retardés de 2A sont fournis dont un de remplacement. Pour procéder
à l'échange, veuillez vous conformer à la procédure suivante:
Cet équipement doit impérativement être relié à une terre de protection par
un câble secteur à 3 conducteurs. La prise équipant ce câble doit être
connectée à une prise secteur effectivement équipée d'une borne reliée à la
terre. La liaison entre la terre de protection et le contrôleur PHC50 ne doit
en aucun cas être interrompue par l'utilisation d'un prologateur dépourvu
de conducteur reliant l'équipement à cette terre de protection.
Dieses System muß mit einem geerdeten Schutzleiter über ein 3-adriges Hauptakel
verbunden sein. Der Hauptstecker sollte nur in eine geerdete Steckdose gesteckt
werden. Der geerdete Kontakt sollte nicht unwirksam gemacht werden, indem
man ein Verlängerungskabel ohne Schutzleiter benutzt.

The TP50 precision touch trigger probe (see Figure 2) is based on proven
Renishaw kinematic principles and is designed for use with the PH50
motorised probe head.

Each PH50 system includes a tool kit containing the following items:

and interfaces with the CMM computer.

The HCU1 (see Figure 4) is a remote hand control unit that enables the
probe head to be used in a manual mode or during a teach cycle. An
LCD dot matrix display provides system status information and error
analysis.

The shank is fixed to the head using 3 off M3 * 6mm socket head cap
screws.

SYSTEM OVERVIEW
1.3 Accessories
1.3.1 Styli
The M3 mounting thread range can be used directly with the TP50
probe and offers a variety of ball sizes in industrial ruby from 0.5mm
(0.02in) to 5mm (0.19in) diameter. These are available with steel,
tungsten carbide and ceramic stems to cover a wide range of
performance and price options.
For further information on choosing and using styli with the TP50, see
section 4.5.

For further information on the AM1, please refer to the AM1 User’s Guide
(Part No H-1000-4010). If your PH50 has been fitted with an AM1, this
guide should be supplied. If it is not present, please contact your
Renishaw representative who will be pleased to send a copy free of
charge.

CAUTION
The Renishaw MCG (see Figure 10) enables rapid and effective interim
checking of CMM performance as recommended in many existing
standards for CMM volumetric performance assessment.
It is fully compatible with the TP50 and enables fast, automatic machine
evaluation (go/no go checks) on a regular basis.

The Renishaw universal datum sphere (see Figure 11) features quick
and easy adjustment of the ball stem over a wide range of angles,
allowing clearance for probe qualification above, centrally and below
the ball.

3.0 INSTALLATION
For information on how to install the PH50 system, please refer to the
PH50 Installation Guide (Part No H-1000-5096).
In manual mode, the optional HCU1 hand control unit (see section 1.1.5)
may be used to control the PH50 probe head manually.
Please refer to the HCU1 User’s Guide (Part No H-1000-5016) for further
details of operation in manual mode.
If the HCU1 is not connected to the PHC50 when power is applied, the
system will enter automatic mode. The system must then be switched
to manual mode by the CMM computer before the HCU1 can be used
to control head and probe functions.

The HOME button is used to initialise the head. It is only active when
the HOME LED is lit and initialisation is required.

To indicate this state, the PHC50 front panel HOME LED will be lit. If an
HCU1 hand control unit is fitted, the message INITIALISE HEAD will be
shown on the dot matrix display.
The PH50 can be initialised by pressing either the PHC50 front panel
HOME button or the HCU1 HOME key (if the HCU1 is fitted).
WARNING
NOTE
Always fit and tighten styli securely to the probe using the S7 stylus tool
included in the tool kit.
CAUTION
Ensure that all stylus joints are clean and free from dirt or debris, and
that the stylus ball is clean and not damaged.
Ensure that the probing trigger force is set at an appropriate level (see
section 4.6). Check the measurement performance of the system after
any adjustment has been made to the trigger force. Requalify the probe
in every position used after a stylus has been adjusted or changed.
CAUTION
With the A axis positioned at 90°, the trigger force adjuster is accessed
via a hole underneath the head (see Figure 13).

The TP50 probe has a trigger force range of 11g to 30g (0.39oz to
1.05oz).
For further information on the Renishaw gram gauge and setting trigger
force, please refer to section 1.3.3 in this guide or to the Renishaw
Gram Gauge Data Sheet Part No H-1000-2033.
If your CMM has been fitted with probe DAMPing capability, this feature
will be controlled by the CMM computer. Please refer to your CMM
supplier for details of the specific use and control of probe DAMPing on
your CMM.
The PHC50 front panel PROBE DAMPED LED indicates the status of
probe DAMPing (see section 4.3).
CAUTION
5.0 MAINTENANCE
There are no user serviceable parts inside any PH50 system units.
WARNING
The TP50 can be removed and replaced by the user should it become
damaged or require servicing.

2. Gently push the new probe into the probe head (pushing against
the probe body, not the stylus holder), aligning the location
key on the probe with the slot in the A axis, until it is fully engaged
4. Tighten the probe locking screw by hand while pressing the probe
gently into the head until the probe is fixed securely in place. Do
not overtighten.

5.4 Cleaning
PH50 system units may be wiped with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. The
units are not sealed against water.
6.0 FAULT-FINDING
Use Table 2 to identify the problem you are experiencing with your PH50
system and refer to the relevant section in this guide.
