TABLE OF CONTENTS
BMI Technologies Inc. (BMI) warrants to the original customer that its products are of the
highest standards and every effort has been made to deliver a product that is free of
defect. Should the product fail within one (1) year from date of sale, BMI will, at its discretion, repair
or replace the defective product at no charge.
If your product does not perform as designed, contact BMI Technical Assistance (1-800-563-8867) for
an assessment of the problem. To aid in troubleshooting, be prepared to provide product Serial
Number(s).
Before your product can be returned, you will require a Return Goods Authorization number (RGA#).
Product must be shipped at your cost via traceable means within 30 days of the issue date of the RGA.
Any charges associated with shipping due to incorrect paperwork will be charged back to you. Please
contact BMI for any needed assistance. Returned product cannot be accepted at BMI unless the
RGA# is clearly labeled on the outside of the package.
Final warranty determination is at the discretion of BMI on receipt and inspection of the returned
product. No warranty applies where there is evidence of misuse, improper installation, unauthorized
modifications or repairs, vandalism, fire, or contact with corrosive materials. Defacing hardware in
any way, will limit warranty options to repair and return only. Defaced units will not be replaced
or credited
If product returned under warranty is deemed to work properly, the customer will be responsible for a
$50.00 No Fault Found fee as well as freight charges to return the product.
This warranty applies to product only and does not include labor or any other charges.
Returns must be shipped at your cost via traceable means within 30 days of the issue date of the RGA.
Returns cannot be accepted at BMI unless the RGA# is clearly labeled on the outside of the
package. Any and all duties, taxes or brokerage charges are the responsibility of the shipper and
will be deducted from the credit.
Credits issued for returned product are subject to a 25% handling fee and are at the discretion of BMI
Technologies Inc. after inspection of the returned goods. Returns of keys, cards, software and training
fees will not be accepted.
Credits will be issued within 6-8 weeks. Please note BMI does not issue checks. Credits will be applied
toward the customer’s account.
Non-Warranty Repairs
To ship items for non-warranty repair, contact BMI Order Desk (1-800-563-8867) for a Return Goods
Authorization number (RGA#) and to provide a Purchase Order number for the work to be done.
Items must be shipped at your cost and cannot be accepted at BMI unless the RGA# is clearly
labeled on the outside of the package.

INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of a G FORCE Impact Monitoring System!
BMI’s G FORCE Impact Monitors and the G-Link software are used together as a system.
The Impact Monitor is the component of the system that is installed on a material handling
vehicle. One monitor per vehicle is required. The G-Link software is installed on a
computer and stores data about vehicles and operators. Only one copy of the software is
required per location regardless of the number of vehicles installed with G FORCE Impact
Monitors. Together the hardware and software do the following:
In order to gain access to a vehicle, an operator logs onto the vehicle by placing his/her
Operator Key on the Remote Key Contact of the vehicle’s Impact Monitor. While the
vehicle is in operation, impact data is measured and stored by the vehicle’s Impact Monitor.
G FORCE 3 Impact Monitors also record and store login data.
Impact data is retrieved from the Impact Monitor when a supervisor places his/her Disarm
key on the Remote Key Contact of the vehicle’s Impact Monitor. Under G FORCE 3, Data
keys retrieve login data via the same method. Keys are then read by G-Link by touching
them to the key contact of the Key Interface. Once the data is displayed onscreen, it can be
saved to the G-Link database.
Maintenance personnel also log onto a vehicle by placing their Operator Keys on the Remote
Key Contact of the vehicle’s Impact Monitor. Information about vehicle maintenance is
recorded, retrieved and saved to the G-Link database in a similar way to impact and login
data.
Stored impact, login and maintenance data is easily assessable from G-Link in a variety of
onscreen and report formats.

SOFTWARE LICENCE
This license outlines the usage and restriction information related to the G-Link 5.x software
application used as part of the G FORCE Impact Monitoring System. G-Link 5.x is
developed, maintained and owned by BMI Technologies Inc.
A purchased copy of G-Link 5.x entitles the purchaser, herein after called the “User,” to load
the software on as many computers as desired at a single physical address. G-Link 5.x may
be accessed through a network at a single location, and requires the purchase of only one (1)
copy of G-Link 5.x regardless of the number of workstations accessing the software. In the
case of a WAN, one copy per physical address must be purchased.
G-Link 5.x is certified for use on PCs running Microsoft® Windows 95/98/2000/NT/XP
Professional/Vista/Win 7 and on Microsoft® Windows NT/2000/2003/2008 networks.
All rights of any kind, which are not expressly granted, are entirely and exclusively reserved
to and by BMI Technologies Inc. The User may not rent, lease, modify, translate, reverse
engineer, de-compile, disassemble, or create derivative works based on G-Link, nor permit
anyone else to do so. The User shall not allow access to G-Link nor make available to others
a connection with a service bureau, application service provider, or similar business, nor
permit anyone else to do so.

INSTALLATION
This section provides a complete listing of the components of the G FORCE/G-Link system
as well as a checklist of computer system requirements. These minimum requirements must
be present in order for the system to operate correctly.
Software, database and key reader installation instructions are also provided in this section.
For G FORCE Impact Monitor vehicle installation instructions, refer to the instructions
shipped with the G FORCE Impact Monitor(s).

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The following instructions are for the installation of the database, G-Link software and
Key Interface components of the G FORCE system. Installation instructions for vehicle
Impact Monitors are supplied with each Impact Monitor.
Note: These instructions are for a new installation only. To upgrade an old version of G-
Link (version 4.x and lower), contact BMI Technologies Inc. at 1-800-563-8867.
!!! Note: Do not install the software to a folder containing a previously installed version
of G-Link.
G FORCE Software
1. Close all open files and applications on your computer, including any anti-virus
software.
2. Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive, the setup should run. If it does
not, browse to the file “D:\ setup.exe” (where D: is the CD-ROM drive) using My
Computer or Windows Explorer.
3. Double-click the “setup.exe” file to begin the installation process and follow the
InstallShield® Wizard onscreen installation steps.

4. Choose a Typical Setup Type when prompted by the window shown below.
5. Remove the installation CD when Setup is complete and launch G-Link from the
program shortcut installed.

GETTING STARTED
This section explains how to start G-Link and provides an overview so that you can begin
working in the software.
STARTING G-LINK
1. Start G-Link (Start button – Programs – GLink 5). The main menu will appear with
inactive (grayed out) buttons.
2. Type the main password in the field to the left of the Ok button.
Click on the main menu buttons to use the various features in G-Link. The chart below
explains the features behind each button.

PASSWORDS
A password is not required to use G-Link, however, setting passwords will prevent
unauthorized access to data.
There are 2 passwords: the Main Password is the general system password and the
Deletion Password is the password required to delete impact, login and maintenance data
from the system.
Note: Passwords are case-sensitive. This means that GOLDFISH, Goldfish, and goldfish
are three different passwords.

2. Select which password you wish to set (Main Password or Deletion Password).
6. Click the OK button to confirm the change. You will be returned to the main
menu.

Changing a Password
Note: To remove a password, type the existing password in the Old Password
field and leave the New Password and Confirm New Password fields blank.

menu.
A Main and Deletion password will have to be set up on each workstation in a multi-
user environment.
SETTINGS
2. Select the communications port (Com Port:) that the Key Interface is connected as.
This can be determined from the information displayed by the steps on page 6 of this
manual.

3. Set the Disarm Key Expiry Period. The recommended default value is 15 days.
Note: The Disarm Key Expiry Period determines the expiry date for each Disarm
Key each time it is cleared. For example, if the Expiry Period is 15 days, the Disarm
Key expiry date will be 15 days from the date it is cleared. After that it will not
disarm impacts until it is read and saved.

7. NETWORK SETUP ONLY: To change the path the G-Link software is using for the
database, press Ctrl-Shift-F12 on the settings window, and the screen will change to this:
Change the database location to the location on the network that contains the common
data folder for your GLink 5 installation. If one does not exist yet, copy the contents of
the data folder for GLink 5 (default is c:\program files\GL5\data or c:\program files
(x86)\gl5\data) to a folder on the network.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
Click on the main menu’s Configuration button to set up vehicles, operators, supervisors and
shifts in G-Link. A four-tab screen will appear, one tab for each type of configuration.
Select the appropriate tab by clicking on it.
Use this tab to set up your company’s vehicles in G-Link, and to program the Config Key
that will be applied to the G FORCE Impact Monitors after they are installed on the
material handling vehicles. The Vehicle Authorization and Unprogrammed Report is also
run from this screen. Vehicles that have not been programmed to a Config key show up
at the top of the list in yellow. If after it is configured initially, a change is made to a
vehicle that requires it to be reprogrammed from the Config key, it will turn yellow again
and show up at the top of the list. A listing of unprogrammed vehicles can be viewed by
clicking the Unprogrammed button.
There are 3 main parts to this tab: (1) vehicle listing at the top, (2) vehicle operator listing
in the lower right, and (3) buttons in the lower left. As you scroll through the vehicle
listing, the operators for each vehicle are displayed in the vehicle operator listing.

Adding a Vehicle
1. Click the Add Vehicle button and click into the Authorization field of the empty
line created (marked with *).
2. Type in the desired Authorization level from a range of 0-98 and then press
<Tab>.
3. Type in the Vehicle Description and then press <Tab>. The system automatically
assigns a Vehicle ID to the vehicle. The vehicle has been successfully added to
the software.
After adding a vehicle to G-Link, the Config Key must be programmed for that
vehicle and applied to the key contact on the vehicle.
1. Select a vehicle by clicking the Vehicle Description field for that vehicle. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the vehicle has been selected.
2. Place the Config Key on the key contact on the Key Interface and click the
Program Key button. The following window will appear:
Note: The Information window shown must appear or the key will not be
programmed correctly. Repeat steps 1-3 if all three do not appear.
5. Apply the Config Key to the key contact on the G FORCE Impact Monitor on the
appropriate vehicle with the power on.
!!! Note: After installing the G FORCE Impact Monitor on a vehicle, the impact
threshold and sampling values must be programmed using a Program Key.

Deleting a Vehicle
Deleting a vehicle does not delete the impact, login or maintenance data for that
vehicle. If you wish to remove a vehicle’s impact, login or maintenance data as well,
do this before you delete the vehicle from Vehicle Configuration.
Note: For record-keeping purposes, you may wish to keep the impact, login, and
maintenance data for a vehicle you intend to delete.
1. Select a vehicle by clicking the Vehicle Description field for that vehicle. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the vehicle has been selected.
2. Click the Delete Vehicle button. The following window will appear:
3. Click the OK button to confirm deletion of the vehicle. The vehicle will no
longer appear in the vehicle listing.
Click the Vehicle Report button to view the Vehicle Authorization report. This
report is a listing of all vehicles found in G-Link and the operators that are authorized
to operate each one.
Click the Unprogrammed button to view the Unprogrammed Vehicles report. This
report is a listing of all unprogrammed vehicles found in G-Link.

Use this tab to set up your company’s operators in G-Link, and to program the Operator
Keys that will be assigned to employees. The Operator Authorization Report is also run
from this screen. Operator keys that have had the data in the software changed since their
last programming will show up as yellow at the top of the list.
There are 4 main parts to this tab: (1) operator listing at the top, (2) operator authorization
listing in the bottom left, (3) operator vehicle listing in the bottom right, and (4) buttons
along the bottom. As you scroll through the operator listing, the authorization levels and
authorized vehicles for each operator are displayed.
Adding an Operator
1. Click the Add Operator button and click into the Operator Name field of the
empty line created (marked with *).

3. Type in the operator’s position and then press <Tab>. The system automatically
assigns an Operator ID to the operator. The operator has been successfully added
to the software.
Note: To keep track of operator license expiry dates, use the License Expiry field
(i.e. enter “10/31/2012”).
1. Select an operator by clicking the Operator Name field for that operator. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the operator has been selected.
2. Click the Add Authorization button and click into the Authorization field of the
empty line created (marked with *).
3. Type in the desired Authorization level from a range of 1-99 and then press
<Tab>.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 to add additional authorization levels for the same operator (up
to 12 authorization levels per operator). A list of vehicles the operator is
authorized to drive is displayed in the operator vehicle listing (bottom right panel
as shown).

6. Program the Operator Key once the desired vehicle access is listed for the
operator.
When authorization levels are assigned to an operator, the operator is given access to
groups of vehicles. For example, an operator with authorization level 11 has access
to all vehicles that have been assigned authorization level 11.
In the event that you wish to limit operator access on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis,
single vehicle authorizations can be set up. Single vehicle authorizations can be set
up in addition to authorization levels. To do this:
1. Select an operator by clicking the Operator Name field for that operator. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the operator has been selected.

3. Select vehicles (up to a maximum of 48) from the Available Vehicles listing by
double-clicking the desired vehicle. They will appear in the Can Operate listing
with an authorization level of “S”, indicating that they have been selected using
the single vehicle authorization method.

4. Click the Ok button when all desired vehicles have been selected. The selected
vehicles will appear in the Operator Vehicle listing for the selected operator.
5. Program the Operator Key once the desired vehicle access is listed for the
operator.
After adding an operator and assigning authorization levels and/or single vehicle
authorizations, or after making any changes to an operator’s information in G-
Link, program the Operator Key as directed below. After programming the key, it
can be given to the employee for logging on to material handling vehicles equipped
with G FORCE Impact Monitors.
1. Select an operator by clicking the Operator Name field for that operator. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the operator has been selected.
2. Place the Operator Key on the key contact on the Key Interface and click the
Program Key button. The following window will appear:

Note: The Information window shown must appear or the key will not be
programmed correctly. If all three do not appear, repeat steps 2.
Deleting an Operator
Deleting an operator does not delete the impact or login data for that operator. If you
wish to remove an operator’s impact or login data as well, do this before you delete
the operator from Operator Configuration.
Note: For record-keeping purposes, you may wish to keep the impact and login data
for an operator you intend to delete. Although the deleted operator’s impact and
login data will not be included on printed reports, it will still be included in the
onscreen listings.
1. Select an operator by clicking the Operator Name field for that operator. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the operator has been selected.
2. Click the Delete Operator button. The following window will appear:

vehicle. They will disappear from the Can Operate listing.

The Operator Vehicle listing on the Operator Configuration tab will show the
vehicles the selected operator is authorized to operate.
4. Program the employee’s Operator Key to update it for the changes made.
As you scroll through the list of operators on the Operator Configuration tab, the
authorization levels for each operator are displayed in the operator authorization
listing (left and above the buttons) and the vehicles that operator is authorized on are
displayed in the operator vehicle listing (right and above the buttons).

Click the Authorization Report button to view the Operator Authorization report.
This report is a listing of all operators found in G-Link and the vehicles that driver is
authorized to operate.
The Unprogrammed button shows all Operators who require an update to their key.

Use this tab to set up your company’s supervisors in G-Link, and to program the Disarm

Adding a Supervisor
1. Click the Add Supervisor button and click into the Supervisor Name field of the

2. Type in the supervisor’s name and then press <Tab>. The supervisor has been
successfully added to the software.
Note: Programming a Disarm Key sets the key’s internal clock and expiry date
(GF3).

field will be highlighted, indicating the supervisor has been selected.

button if there is no data on the key you wish to save. Otherwise, click No and go
to Read Key to save the data on the key. The following window will appear:

Note: The two Information windows shown above instructions must appear or the
key will not be programmed correctly. If all three do not appear, repeat steps 2-
4.
BMI Technologies Inc. strongly recommends that a separate Disarm Key be reserved
for the purposes of gathering maintenance data.

A Disarm Key’s expiry date is set when it is first programmed and also every time it
is read and its impact data saved to the database.
The expiry date is calculated by adding the Disarm Key Expiry Period (from Settings)
to the current computer system date.
A Disarm Key with an expired expiry date cannot disarm vehicles in impact alarm.
Deleting a Supervisor
1. Select a supervisor by clicking the Supervisor Name field for that supervisor. The
field will be highlighted, indicating the supervisor has been selected.
2. Click the Delete Supervisor button. The following window will appear:

SHIFT CONFIGURATION
Adding a Shift
1. Click the Add Shift button and click into the ShiftNo field of the empty line
created (marked with *).
3. Complete the shift information by entering the starting and ending times of the
shift and a shift description. Use the <Tab> key to move from one field to the
next. The shift has been successfully added to the software.
Note: Since the reports rely on the shift times entered in this section, it is
important to make sure they are entered carefully. Be sure to include hours,
minutes and seconds in your starting and ending times, as well as if the times
indicated are A.M. or P.M. You will also need to make sure there are no
overlapping times in your shift setup.

LOGGING ON
1. Turn on the vehicle’s ignition. The LED on the Remote Key Contact will indicate a
waiting for login state and the interrupt will disable the vehicle.
Note: If the operator has not logged in within 4 seconds of turning the vehicle
ignition on, the horn will sound until the operator logs in.
2. Login by placing the Operator Key on the Remote Key Contact of the vehicle’s
Impact Monitor. The LED on the Remote Key Contact will indicate a logged in state
and the horn will stop sounding.
LOGGING OFF
The vehicle’s ignition must be turned off in order to for an operator to be logged off.
If a new operator takes control of a vehicle and the previous operator has not turned off
the vehicle’s ignition, the previous operator will remain the operator of record.
If a new operator takes control of a vehicle and logs on with his/her Operator Key, the
new operator will become the operator of record.
DETECTING IMPACTS

A vehicle that has been powered off during its alarm state will still be in alarm state
when it is powered on again.
The lift will disable (electric lift trucks only) after expiry of the Lift Interrupt Disable
Time
The horn will sound
The LED on the Remote Key Contact will flash
1. Place a Disarm Key on the Remote Key Contact of the vehicle’s Impact Monitor.
This will shut off the horn (if equipped), enable the lift, and collect impact data from
the Blackbox Key.
2. Remove the Disarm Key when the LED on the Remote Key Contact shines solid.
Note: When the Disarm Key is removed, the LED will indicate that the vehicle is in
the waiting for login state. An operator must login again in order to operate the
vehicle.
Note: Impact data can be retrieved from multiple vehicles before being saved to G-
Link, however, it is important to retrieve impact data and save it to the database on a
regular basis.
1. Ensure the vehicle is in either the waiting for login state or the logged in state.
3. Remove the Data Key when the LED on the Remote Key Contact shines solid.
Note: After the Data Key is removed from the Remote Key Contact, the LED will
indicate that the vehicle is in the waiting for login state. An operator may need to
login again in order to operate the vehicle.
Note: Login data can be retrieved from multiple vehicles before being saved to G-
Link, however, it is important to retrieve login data and save it to the database on a
regular basis to avoid losing login data.

Your vehicle provides the power for your G FORCE Impact Monitor, so when your vehicle
ignition is started your G FORCE is too. Immediately, you will notice the LED shine solid
for four seconds as the unit completes its power-on self-test.
Note: A vehicle that has been powered off while in hard or soft impact state will resume the
hard or soft impact state after the power-on self-test is completed the next time the unit is
powered up.

The Read Key function reads the data stored on the Touch Memory Keys. To read a
Key:
1. Place the Touch Memory Key on the key contact of the Key Interface.
2. Click the Read Key button. The Read Key window will display the message
“Receiving Data.”
3. The Read Key window will then display the Touch Memory Key’s data.

After reading a Disarm Key that contains impact data or a Data Key that contains login
data (G FORCE 3 only), the data must be transferred from the key to the database. This
process saves the data to the database for viewing in G-Link and clears the Touch
Memory Key for further use.
2. Enter a description for each impact, if desired, by clicking into the Description

information saved is based upon the Last Operator and Last Vehicle displayed when

maintenance employee, then maintenance data must be saved to the database.

The Event Data button opens the Event Data screen, which displays an onscreen listing of
all the different types of data that has been downloaded from Disarm Keys and Data
Keys.
The default order of event data shown in the onscreen listing is descending chronological.
That is, the most recent event is shown at the top of the onscreen listing.
Displaying Data
Different kinds of data may be viewed by clicking the appropriate checkbox at the
upper right.

On opening the Event Data screen, the onscreen listing will display a listing of event
data by default, for the period of the last 30 days.
Click the Show All button to show all data available in the database. Whichever of
the tabs at the top right is chosen will determine how the data is sorted. For example,
if the Operator tab is the current one showing in the top right, the Show All button
will show all data sorted by operator
Use the buttons and fields found on the five tabs with the headings Operator, Vehicle,
Date, Supervisor, and Auth Range to search the database for specific events. Use the
Search and Clear buttons to the right of this area to execute searches and to clear the
fields on these five tabs.

and select Andrew Smith from the Operator Name drop-down list.

The impact data displayed in the onscreen listing can be used to create an Excel file.
1. Select the data that you wish to include in the Excel file by using G-Link’s search
features.
3. Use the Save in: field to select the location where the Excel file will be saved.
4. Type a file name in the File name: field. No file extension is required.
5. Click the Save button to create the Excel file. When the process is complete, the
following window will appear to indicate the file has been created.
6. Click the OK button. You can now open the file you just created from Excel or
Explorer.

Use this feature when you want to delete a selected group of event data from the
database. The Delete All Shown Events button will delete all events displayed in the
onscreen listing.

For example, when you sell a vehicle and want to delete that vehicle’s impact data
from the database, perform a search to display all the impacts for that vehicle.

An Impact Monitor comes set to 0.5G, so to change the impact threshold, a Program Key
must be used to initialize the unit. Always read a Program Key to confirm its settings
before programming an Impact Monitor.
1. Select an appropriate Program Key for each vehicle equipped with an Impact
Monitor. Contact BMI Technologies at 1-800-563-8867 if you require technical
assistance in selecting an appropriate G FORCE value.
2. Place the Program Key on the Remote Key Contact of the vehicle’s Impact Monitor.
3. Remove the Program Key from the Remote Key Contact when the vehicle horn
sounds.
Program Key settings can be reprogrammed in the case that the standard Program Key set
does not provide a desired G FORCE value. As this would be rare, please contact BMI
Technologies at 1-800-563-8867 for technical assistance.

2. Change the value in the G FORCE Threshold field to the value desired (valid range
0.1 to 10.0 with one decimal place of accuracy). The Soft and Hard Threshold
values will automatically adjust to reflect the change made in the G FORCE
Threshold field.

REFERENCE
This section provides additional information on authorization levels, impact types,
troubleshooting, daylight savings time, and backing up G-Link data.
AUTHORIZATION LEVELS
Authorization levels are assigned to each operator and to each vehicle. These
authorization levels are used to prevent unauthorized access to company material
handling vehicles. The chart below describes how these authorization levels work.
1 to 10 The operator’s authorization level must be greater than, or equal to, the
vehicle’s authorization level in order to gain access to the vehicle (i.e.
an operator with authorization level 5 can operate vehicles with
authorization levels of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5).
99 An operator with this authorization level can operate any vehicle. This
authorization level is reserved for supervisors, maintenance personnel,
and any other individual requiring access to all vehicles.
IMPACT TYPES
Hard Impact This occurs when a vehicle hits a post or another vehicle of similar
size. The vehicle generally stops on impact and its energy is dissipated
instantly. This type of impact is high in amplitude and short in duration
(10 ms).
Soft Impact This occurs when a vehicle hits an object like product or racking. The
vehicle generally comes to a stop some distance after the impact, as it
takes some time for the vehicle’s energy to dissipate. This type of
impact is low in amplitude and long in duration (300 ms). This type of
impact tends to be most damaging and will most often cause an alarm
state.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Use this section to resolve some issues that could occur while using G-Link.
If your issue is not listed below, or if you require additional technical assistance, contact
BMI Technologies at 1-800-563-8867. To assist BMI’s Help Desk in troubleshooting the
problem, record the exact error message and sequence of events leading up to the error
message before you place the call.
(1) The Disarm Key is “full” (it is storing impact data for 42 impacts).
(2) The current date is past the expiry date on the Disarm Key.
In either case, read the Disarm Key and click the Save to Database button to clear
the key and reset its expiry date.
Unknown Supervisor.
This is not an error. It means the Disarm Key that has just been read is not
programmed (i.e. not assigned to a supervisor). If you want to assign a supervisor
name to it, do so through Configuration, but DO NOT clear the key when it asks if
you wish to, or data will be lost.
To resolve this, use Settings to select a different comport and test the change by
reading a Program Key. If the key can be read, the correct port has been selected.

The computer may also have other software installed that has control of the serial
port. PDA (Personal Data Assistant) software (i.e. Palm Pilot) is an example of this.
In this case, turn off the ‘Hot-Sync’ feature, restart G-Link and test the comport by
reading a Program Key. You may have to test all four comports again.
Key Interface not found, please check the com port connections.
The Key Interface is not set up properly. Check the communications port (comport)
selected. Check the power connections. Check the computer cable connections.
A “No Key Found” message in the Read Key window indicates that the Key Interface
is not detecting a Touch Memory Key.
To resolve this, remove the key from the key contact and then return it. Refer also to
the section below, Cannot Read a Touch Memory Key, for a description of the proper
technique for reading keys.

If you are having difficulty reading a Touch Memory Key (Disarm, Data, Operator,
Program), it could be your method of making contact at the Key Interface. The
proper technique is to center the key on the key contact of the Key Interface and then
gently slide the key to the edge of the key contact. Contact must be made at the edge
of the key contact as well as the bottom flat part in order for the key to be read. This
contact must be maintained during the retire read process.
Note: Applying excessive pressure will cause a key to become dented and unusable.
A Data key can hold approximately 762 records before it is full. An Impact Monitor
stores the most recent 1,023 records.
Note: A login requiring a safety check requires 2 records. A login without requires
only 1.
In the event that there have been more than 762 logins recorded since the last time
login data was gathered with a Data key, it will take two (2) Data keys to gather all
the login data. If only one (1) Data key is used, the oldest 762 logins will be
gathered. The remaining data will be picked up the next time a Data key is used.
Login data will be lost if more than 1023 logins occur before a Data key is used to
gather login data. This happens because the 1024th login overwrites the login stored
at record #1. Subsequent logins are stored at record #2, then #3, then #4, etc.
For this reason, it is very important to establish a schedule for the collection of login
data that is suitable for the location. For example, an operation that runs 24 hours per
day and 7 days per week will require more frequent login data collection because the
login data “buffer” fills more quickly. If data collection is not done frequently
enough, login data will be overwritten and lost.
In the fall and spring, when Daylight Savings Time goes into and comes out of effect, the
internal clocks on the Disarm Keys need to be synchronized. This will need to be done
for all Disarm Keys. To do this:
1. Ensure the clock time on all the computers where G-Link is loaded reflects the proper
Daylight Savings Time.
2. Read the Disarm Key. Save it to Database regardless of whether it has data on it or
not. This will synchronize the clock on the key with the clock on the PC.

G-Link’s database files are stored on the hard drive of the computer on which it is
installed. If this is NOT a network server that is backed up regularly, care should be
taken to protect the data from hard drive failure by establishing a regular backup routine.
Contact your organization’s computer technician for assistance with this task. If you
performed a stand-alone installation and accepted the installation defaults, the files that
should be backed up are found in the C:\Program Files\gl4\data folder.
