History - 8th Grade

Introduction
Malia (Representing republican):
● Hello! Welcome to the Republican Party! We believe in more conservative and
right wing opinions. We generally argue for less government interference and the
people's opinions over the government, in capitalism and having a free market.
Our opinions are more about us, now. This means we argue for individual rights,
our own rights that we earned, and we want them now.

Jacob (Representing democratic):

● Hello! Welcome to the Democratic Party! We believe in more liberal and left wing
opinions. We generally argue that the government should be more supreme and
make more decisions rather than the people, a less capitalistic economy and
more care for the environment. We stand generally for the belief of all of us, for
the future. This means we fight for our community and try to think more about the
future.

Body/Main Content
Malia
1. We, republicans believe that in terms of abortion, “the unborn child has a
fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed.” We believe that abortion is
not okay and that it should be prevented. Our party “supports a Human Life
Amendment making clear that the 14th Amendment’s protections apply to
children before birth” We will try to defund Planned Parenthood health center, as
they go against what we believe.

(Jacob says line)

2. We believe that the only type of marriage that should be allowed is the marriage
of a man and a woman. The Supreme Court’s rulings that removed the ability of
Congress and the people to define marriage as the union of one man and one
woman, goes against our core beliefs, and we strongly disagree with them.

(Jacob says line)

3. We believe in building and maintaining a strong military as the path to peace and
security. We seek to restore the nation’s military and to rebuild troop numbers.
We want to update the country's nuclear arsenal, and we believe that in relation
to Terrorism, ‘we must stand up for our friends, challenge our foes, and destroy
ISIS."

(Jacob says line)

4. Our party is trying to help those in poverty. We believe that instead of

government handouts that keep people dependent, “We propose the dynamic
compassion of work requirements in a growing economy, where opportunity
takes the place of a hand-out, where true self-esteem can grow from the
satisfaction of a job well done.”

(Jacob says line)

Jacob
1. We believe that all women have the right to have an abortion, because it is their
child and their body. We will continue to stand up to Republican efforts of
defunding Planned Parenthood health centers and will continue to support them.

(Malia says line)

2. We believe that everybody has the right to marry whoever they like, no matter
their gender or who they identify as. With this, we applaud last year’s Supreme
Court ruling that ‘LGBT people—like other Americans—have the right to marry
the person they love.’

(Malia says line)

3. National defense is very important, but we need to decrease our spending of

money on it. We also don’t need to spend an excessive amount of money on
nuclear weapons and we are fully in support of women being in the military. We
also believe that in relation to Terrorism, “diplomacy and development, to
confront global threats and ensure war is a last resort.

(Malia says line)

4. Our in terms of helping the impoverished our goal is to “direct more federal
resources to lifting up communities that have been left out and left behind.” We
want to make more affordable housing, more “good-paying jobs and enhance
opportunities by investing in small business, youth employment, and reentry
programs for formerly incarcerated people.’”

Overtime, the Republican and Democratic parties have changed a lot.
Republicans used to be more liberal, while Democrats were more conservative. The first
two political parties in American government were the Federalists who were led by
Alexander Hamilton, and the democratic-republicans led by Thomas Jefferson and
James Madison. The Federalist party “believed in having a much stronger central
government.” The Democratic-Republicans were usually called simply Republicans. The
Democratic Republican or Republican party “believed in strong states rights and wanted
the central government to have as little power as possible.” The Federalists were
dominant until the 1800’s, and the Democratic-Republicans or Republicans were
dominant after the 1800s.

Conclusion

Jacob and Malia

In conclusion, the Democratic and Republican parties have lots of opposing views on
many issues and laws, and these opinions have changed a lot since their findings.
