Lesson Plan in Science

Grade 8

I. Objective

At the end of the period, the students are expected to:

A. describe the color of light,

B. discuss the importance of light, and

C. draw the color of light according to their wavelength.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Color of Light

B. Concepts/ Ideas:

Light is made up of wavelength, and each wavelength has a particular color. The color that

we see is a result of which wavelengths are reflected back to our eyes.

C. Processes: observing, comparing, describing

D. References: Earth Science lesson prepared by Science Department (Grade 10)

E. Materials: cartolina, pentel pen, ball pen, plastic bottle, mirror

F. Value Focus: Appreciate the importance of colors of light

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation

Prayer
Class, please all stand let us pray.

Dear Lord and Father of all, thank you for

this day, for the ways in which you provided for
us. For your protection and love. We also thank
you to help us to focus our hearts and minds
now on what we are about to learn. Inspire us by
your eternal light as we discover more about the
world around us.

We ask all these in the name of Jesus.

Amen.

Unfreezing
Please remain standing for our mini game.
When I see color don’t make any movement,
when I say light make a group of two, and when
I say wavelength make a group of three.
The first three who did not follow my
instruction will have a special number.
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
1. Review
I have here circle that contain a number at
the back. I call your name, then you will choose
the number and explain the meaning of the words.

Evaporation Evaporation is a liquid water turn into a gaseous

state with the presence of heat energy.

Condensation Condensation is a gaseous water molecules link

together to form liquid water molecules.

Precipitation Precipitation is a liquid water from the atmosphere

falls to the ground in a form of rain, glaze, snow
etc.

Infiltration Infiltration is a portion of water that soaks into the

ground, slowly moving downward.

2. Motivation
I have here a poem about the colors of light.
I will read it first and please listen carefully.

“The color”

This is not easy to understand

for you that came from a distant land
where all the colors are low in
pitch deep purples, emeralds deep

And rich where autumn’s flaming and

summer’s green here is a beauty you have not
seen, pitched in a higher key,
lilac, topaz, ivory and palest jade-green

And pale clear blue like aquamarines

that sun shines through gold’s
and silvers, we have at will silver
and gold on each plain

and hill silver-green of my all leaves,

tawny gold of the garnered sheaves,
silver rivers that silent slide
golden sands by the water-side

Now, let us read the poem together.

What is the poem all about? The poem is all about the color.

What are different color mentioned in the poem? The colors mentioned in the poem are: purple,
green, blue, gold, silver, emerald and lilac.
What is the pale clear blue look like? It look like aquamarine.

If you were given the title of the poem what The title of the poem is rainbow
would it be?

3. Introduction(Presentation)

All we see is light. Your face in the mirror, the

trees on your street, that donut in the bakery

window—you can see them because light bounces

off of them and enters your eyes. Our eyes are

designed to detect light and analyze the

information it carries about the world around us.

In the hands-on activities that follow, you’ll

investigate some of the amazing properties of light.

You can bend light (called refraction when it

passes through lenses or diffraction when it bends

around an edge or passes through a slit), bounce

light around using mirrors (also known

as reflection), and explore the multicolored

potential of shadows.

It’s all around us, and while you may not be able

to hold it in your hands, seeing is believing—light

is pretty amazing stuff.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Generalization

Light is made up of wavelength, and

each wavelength is a particular color. The color
that we see is a result of which wavelengths are
reflected back to our eyes.

White light is a combination of all colors in

the color spectrum. It has all the colors of the
rainbow.

Combining primary colors of light

like red, blue, and green creates secondary
colors: yellow, cyan, and magenta. All other
colors can be broken down into different
combinations of the three primary colors.
2. Discussion

What are the 7 colors of light? The 7 colors of light are: violet, indigo, blue,
green, yellow, orange, and red.

What is the color of the shortest wavelength? The color violet.

What is the color of the longest wavelength? The color red.

3. Application

In a 1/2 sheet of pad paper composed a song

about the colors of light. You will be given 10
minutes.

4. Valuing

“Importance of Light”

Do not go gentle into that cold night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day,
Rage against the dying of the light,
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

because their words had forked no lightning,

Good men, the last wave by crying how the bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in green bay
Wild men who caught and sang in flight,

and learn ,too late, they grieved it on its way,

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding
sight, blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be
gay, And you , my father, there on the sad height,

Curse bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray

Do not go gentle into that good night
Do not go gentle into that good night
Rage against the dying of light.
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

What did you learn about the poem? I learn from the poem that we should not go gentle
into that good night.

What will happen if things around us have no It should be lifeless.

colors?

Are colors are important? Why? Yes, because it gives us color and light,

IV. Evaluation
I have here a plastic bottle. You will sing
tatlong bebe as you pass this to your seatmate.
When I say stop the one who is holding the
plastic bottle will pick the rolled paper and
answer the question.

What are the seven colors of light? The 7 colors of light are: violet, indigo, blue,
green, yellow, orange, and red.

What is the shortest color of light? The color violet.

What is the second shortest color of light? The color indigo.

What the color of the 3rd to the shortest color? The color blue.

What is the longest color of light? The color red.

What is the color of the 2nd to the longest color? The color orange.

What ids the color of the 3rd in the longest color? The color yellow.

V. Assignment

Use ½ sheet of pad paper.
