Why We Conducted This Survey

We are the owners of Chebychev's Diner and are looking to put another restaurant location
in Cranberry Township. We decided to conduct a survey to students and teachers at Cardinal Wuerl
North Catholic High School. The survey consists of ten students from each grade, along with ten
teachers. To see if Cranberry is a good area to achieve a successful business, we were interested
in seeing if people go out to eat in the area. We also asked how much people are willing to spend
at a restaurant to help determine our prices. Our goal is to have a restaurant that is budget friendly
and will be popular among the students and teachers of CWNCHS.

Quantitative Data (Prices)

Amount of money students and teachers of CWNC are willing to spend

Classes Frequency Relative Cumulative Midpoints Boundaries
(in dollars) frequency frequency
0 - 18 27 .54 27 9 -.5 - 18.5
19 - 37 22 .44 49 28 18.5 - 37.5
38 - 56 0 0 49 47 37.5 - 56.5
57 - 75 0 0 49 66 56.5 - 75.5
76 - 94 1 .02 50 85 75.5 - 94.5
This is a frequency histogram of our quantitative data. The data shows that the prices that
the students and teachers of CWNC chose the most are from $0 to $37.50. There was an outlier in
the data, as shown by the one price in between $75.50 and $94.50, so almost all of the people
surveyed would prefer to pay a cheaper price.

This is a box and whisker plot to illustrate out quantitative data. According to the graph,
the majority of the data falls within $10 and $20. This means that of the students and teachers
surveyed, most of them would spend between $10 and $20 for a sit-down dinner in the Cranberry
area.
Range of the Data: 90
IQR: 10
Mean: 16.52 = 16.5
Standard Deviation: 14.44375439 = 14.4

The range of the data assists in determining how wide the variety of answers is because it
is the difference between the minimum price and the maximum price. It leads us to wonder how
the majority of people answered their survey. The Interquartile Range gives us the difference
between the third quartile and the first quartile. This means that when the data is separated into
equal sections, the middle value of each section is calculated. From this, we can subtract the largest
quartile and the smallest quartile to get a number that will represent the measure of variability of
data.
The mean of the data is simply the average cost that people are willing to spend at a
restaurant when they dine out. The standard deviation measure how the numbers are spread out.
Essentially, it is the set difference between each data group, or the average numerical amount that
a given value differs from the mean. In this instance, using Chebychev's Theorem, it is determined
that at least 75% of the data falls between $0 and $45.30, or within two standard deviations of the
median price.
Qualitative Data (Do they go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant)

This is a pie chart to display our qualitative data. The graph shows that the majority of the
sample surveyed have been out to eat at a sit-down restaurant in the Cranberry area.
