Loreena McKennitt’s new album, Lost Souls – her first recording of original songs since the 2006 album An Ancient Muse.
Produced by the award‐winning Canadian singer/composer herself, Lost Souls is an eclectic tapestry of songs drawn from a
wide range of influences, including the Celtic and Middle Eastern with which she has long been identified.
The nine‐track album was recorded from May through October 2017 in Hamilton, Canada at Catherine North Studios and at
Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios near Bath, in South West England. Several of the songs included on ‘Lost Souls’ were
initiated by McKennitt some time ago. Others have been progressively taking shape in the midst of more recent projects and
journeys. A few draw on the poetry of John Keats and W.B. Yeats, while another evokes a distinct Middle Eastern flavour. In
Lost Souls they all come together to create an artistically diverse and timely collection.
The first featured track from the album “A Hundred Wishes,” is a contemporary track that harkens back to earlier times, it
features Loreena on piano, with long‐time colleagues Caroline Lavelle on cello, Hugh Marsh on violin, Brian Hughes on guitar
and Dudley Phillips on bass. The album also features such specialty artists as Robert Brian and Tal Bergman (Drums), Hossam
Ramsey, Graham Hargrove and Rick Lazar (Percussion), Nigel Eaton (Hurdy Gurdy), Panos Dimitrakopoulos (Kanoun), Sokratis
Sinopoulos (Lyra), Haig Yazdjian (Oud), Ana Alcaide (Nyckelharpa), Daniel Casares (Flamenco Guitars) and Miguel Ortiz Ruvira
(Flamenco Percussion)
McKennitt’s eclectic Celtic blend of pop, folk and world music has sold over 14 million albums worldwide. Her recordings
have achieved Gold, Platinum and multi‐Platinum status in 15 countries on four continents. She has twice been nominated
for a Grammy Award and has won two Juno Awards, as well as a Billboard International Achievement Award.

Key Points:
Marian Hill are a duo from Philadelphia consisting of singer Samantha Gongol and producer Jeremy Lloyd. Their unique
sound combines sparse, minimal electronic beats with seductive vocals (which are often chopped up and manipulated) along
with sultry saxophone. The duo wrote a song called "Whisky" in spring of 2013 and sent it to dozens of blogs hoping to catch
some attention. The song created a buzz, and the following year, the duo released their first EP, Play, as well as a 7" single,
"Lips." They received mainstream exposure when Romanian pop star Inna credited them as co‐writers of her song "Diggy
Down," which incorporated the hook of Marian Hill's "Got It." The duo signed to Photo Finish/Republic Records in early 2015
and released Sway, a seven‐track EP. In 2016, they released their full‐length debut album, Act One, featuring the single
"Down." Early 2018 saw the release of the punchy single, "Subtle Thing," followed by an appearance at that year's Coachella

Whether it’s from behind the bar, from on the stage, or just walking the streets of his adopted hometown of Kingston
Ontario, Greg Ball is a keen, honest, and often an acerbic observer of the fascinating character traits of the people around
him.
For more than 20 years he has used his song writing as a way to interpret and process these observations, as well as his own
frustrations and curiosities. With much help from his tight‐knit group of talented bandmates, Ball has composed his most
revelatory and most sonically diverse album yet, (his 4th album) “Spoiled Sunday”, due for release on May 11th on Ching
Music.
“There are songs about family, songs about violence + drug abuse ‐ lots of things from the past and present. Every song I
write is a personal thing; they're not really made up at all. Some of the songs on this album are about characters around
town that I interact with on a fairly regular basis,” says Ball.
Guitarist Joe Carscallen weaves his six‐string magic in cahoots with Ball’s guitar throughout the album, at times with hard‐
driving intensity (+ flashy solos!!) and at other times with great subtlety. Drummer Rob Radford, a gifted drummer who’s
well‐known in Kingston, and bass‐player extraordinaire Rob Gillet are a uniquely talented, rock‐solid rhythm section, who
serve the songs admirably, and at appropriate times add a lot of melody and syncopation.
Recorded at TheTragically Hip’s Bathouse Studio, producer (and Hip member) Paul Langlois and engineer Nyles Spencer
were able to capture a tight, great‐sounding band who were enjoying playing their new songs together.
Langlois has produced (and sung on) Ball’s last 3 albums and Ball sang back‐ups on 2 songs on Langlois’ 2nd solo effort, Not
Guilty (Common Ground and Not Guilty).
Greg and his band will be touring their new album in the late‐spring/early‐summer, venues + dates to be announced…

Perhaps best known for being one of the founding members of the noisy electronic group Holy Fuck, Brian Borcherdt has spent years
making unhinged dance music and touring relentlessly as the band’s envelope‐pushing sound developed. Behind the scenes, however,
Borcherdt has been writing songs of his own that branched out in dramatically different directions than his main gig. At a low‐key
hometown show during a holiday break, Dusted was born as an almost total antithesis to Holy Fuck’s bomb‐dropping sound.
If Brian’s work in Holy Fuck represented a reckless night out, Dusted was the somber comedown the morning after.
After his 2012, debut, “Total Dust” Borcherdt spent much of the next year on the road supporting Great Lake Swimmers, Perfume Genius

Loreena McKennitt’s new album, Lost Souls – her first recording of original songs since the 2006 album An Ancient Muse.
Produced by the award‐winning Canadian singer/composer herself, Lost Souls is an eclectic tapestry of songs drawn from a
wide range of influences, including the Celtic and Middle Eastern with which she has long been identified.

“Life has been so full and demanding these past ten years, both personally and professionally,” says McKennitt, “and we’ve
been touring at such a steady pace. It’s been immensely gratifying to finally get back to the creative part of the process.”

The nine‐track album was recorded from May through October 2017 in Hamilton, Canada at Catherine North Studios and at
Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios near Bath, in South West England. Several of the songs included on ‘Lost Souls’ were
initiated by McKennitt some time ago. Others have been progressively taking shape in the midst of more recent projects and
journeys. A few draw on the poetry of John Keats and W.B. Yeats, while another evokes a distinct Middle Eastern flavour. In
Lost Souls they all come together to create an artistically diverse and timely collection.

The first featured track from the album “A Hundred Wishes,” is a contemporary track that harkens back to earlier times, it
features Loreena on piano, with long‐time colleagues Caroline Lavelle on cello, Hugh Marsh on violin, Brian Hughes on guitar
and Dudley Phillips on bass. The album also features such specialty artists as Robert Brian and Tal Bergman (Drums), Hossam
Ramsey, Graham Hargrove and Rick Lazar (Percussion), Nigel Eaton (Hurdy Gurdy), Panos Dimitrakopoulos (Kanoun), Sokratis
Sinopoulos (Lyra), Haig Yazdjian (Oud), Ana Alcaide (Nyckelharpa), Daniel Casares (Flamenco Guitars) and Miguel Ortiz Ruvira

Key Points:
Marian Hill are a duo from Philadelphia consisting of singer Samantha Gongol and producer Jeremy Lloyd. Their unique
sound combines sparse, minimal electronic beats with seductive vocals (which are often chopped up and manipulated) along
with sultry saxophone. The duo wrote a song called "Whisky" in spring of 2013 and sent it to dozens of blogs hoping to catch
some attention. The song created a buzz, and the following year, the duo released their first EP, Play, as well as a 7" single,
"Lips." They received mainstream exposure when Romanian pop star Inna credited them as co‐writers of her song "Diggy
Down," which incorporated the hook of Marian Hill's "Got It." The duo signed to Photo Finish/Republic Records in early 2015
and released Sway, a seven‐track EP. In 2016, they released their full‐length debut album, Act One, featuring the single
"Down." Early 2018 saw the release of the punchy single, "Subtle Thing," followed by an appearance at that year's Coachella

Kris Kristofferson has an unusual resumé. Brownsville, Texas-born, football star and Golden Gloves boxer in college,
Rhodes scholar at Oxford, Army captain and chopper pilot, studio janitor, part-time bartender, leading man opposite Barbra
Streisand and Jane Fonda. But on his passport, under “occupation,” it reads “songwriter.” And that more than anything sums
up the essence of Kris Kristofferson. His songs have been recorded by at least 500 other artists, from Willie and Johnny
(Cash) to Janis Joplin and Ray Charles, but only that gravelly baritone of his can truly render those songs the way they were
meant to be heard, from somewhere deep down in the heart of the man himself. This performance from September 1981
captures Kris in his prime. As he put it at the time, “the music’s a little closer to the soul because I’m creating and controlling
the whole show.” Classics like “Me and Bobby McGee,” ”Loving Her Was Easier,” ”Why Me?” and “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’
Down” take on a whole new meaning coming from the man who wrote and lived the words. This is the show that almost
wasn’t. As I was about to introduce Kris, the studio descended into total darkness. Apparently an errant rodent chewed
through a major power line and the result was a black-out that lasted all night. The audience was led out by flashlight singing
the ACL theme and Kris hung out on the roof with the crew. Fortunately, he came back the next night and the resulting magic

Overview:
“Awase”, a term from martial arts, means “moving together” in the sense of matching energies, a fitting
metaphor for the dynamic precision, tessellated grooves and balletic minimalism of Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin.
Six years have passed since the last release from the Swiss group which, in the interim has become a
subtly different band. Bärtsch speaks of a new-found freedom and flexibility in the approach to the
material, with “greater transparency, more interaction, more joy in every performance”.
