Technical Data Sheet

Supplemental Technical
Specifications
To deliver the maximum value of our tools for our clients and INTEQ, and because of the
increasing demands on tools from an operational and lifetime expectancy perspective (i.e.
highly complex and /or demanding well designs etc.), it has become necessary to explain the
Technical Data Sheets and boundaries in greater depth.

This document, therefore, provides "environmental specific" specifications and information

on the application, operation, and handling of INTEQ tools. It is intended to supplement tool
specific Technical Data Sheets. The specifications and information provided herein cover
instances in which INTEQ tools are operated in non-standard environments (e.g., high
temperature, excessive dogleg severity, corrosive or abnormal drilling fluids, etc.). Operation
in such non-standard environments is detrimental to the useful life and optimal operational
capabilities of INTEQ tools and is outside of the terms and conditions under which INTEQ
tools are provided. It is the INTEQ policy to keep our tools in an "as new" status, meaning
INTEQ will not allow the downgrading of our tools, as is done with drillpipe, based on
previous use or wear and tear.

As such, operation in such non-standard environments will be considered "out of

specification" ("OOS") operation for which compensation may be due from the customer.

When out of specification operations occur, additional charges for tool usage, maintenance,
extraordinary wear and tear, or for replacement, up to the Lost in hole value, may apply. The
INTEQ Price Book sets forth the elements for determining applicable additional charges for
out of specification operation and should be consulted to determine how associated pricing
will apply to the various operational parameters.

General Information on Tech Data Sheets

„ Stated tool diameter, length, and sensor distances are nominal tool dimensions.
„ Maximum over pull until failure. Stated specifications are according to the API
definition of "tensile yield". Usually, this specification is determined as a function of the
weakest thread of the tool.
„ Maximum Tool Rotation is the rotational speed of the sub in revolutions per minute.
This specification is dependent upon tool application and in the case of AutoTrak tools,
steering force applied. In the case of downhole motors, it is a function of AKO setting.
The maximum rotation level stated is for drilling ahead in formation.
„ The torque specifications provided in the Technical Data Sheets are right hand
(clockwise looking downhole) torques.
„ Maximum pressure, as stated in the Technical Data Sheets, is hydrostatic plus standpipe
pressure.

Supplemental Technical Specifications
Out of specification operation will occur as a result of tool operation in the following non-standard environments
such as, but not limited to:

General Clarifications and Recommendations for OOS issues

„ As to any single drilling parameter, the lowest of specifications of any component in a BHA is the
predominant specification. Operation of the BHA outside the parameters of the predominant specification is
an OOS.
„ Generally, industry accepted, good drilling/Operating practices must be followed at all times. For example,
rotating without circulation or rotating inside casing etc. are not good drilling practice and are considered an
OOS operation. However, rotation inside casing for the purposes of drilling cement and shoe tracks shall not
be considered an OOS operation. It should be noted that such operations routinely cause damage to
equipment that may require compensation from the customer. In these operations, it is recommended that the
customer obtain and follow instructions from INTEQ personnel, as such instructions may assist in
minimizing or preventing damage.
„ Any application which results in physical damage beyond what is considered normal wear and tear is
considered to be an OOS operation.
„ In jarring the actual location and magnitude of the resultant shock produced from a Jar being fired, cannot be
accurately predicted. As such all jarring must be considered an OOS operation.
„ Maximum Dogleg Severity (DLS) is applicable to continuous curvature. The DLS is limited by mechanical
stress on the tool components. Areas with high localized DLS, which may not be visible in the wellbore
survey using standard measurement techniques, may exceed the specified limits and cause excessive
mechanical stress. Certain services of INTEQ, are available to help drill more efficiently; at the same time
these services can be used to help mitigate the risk of OOS operation caused by exceeding the various
parameters (such as: bending moment, vibration, etc.).
„ Maximum Dogleg Severity (DLS) in specific Technical Data Sheets refers to the maximum rate that can be
tolerated for that specific BHA configuration. Any deviations in BHA design, including the addition of
measurement components, rearrangement to enhance certain drilling characteristics, or the use of third party
BHA components, may change the stated DLS values. Failure to take deviations in BHA design into
consideration, and properly reevaluate DLS values, may result in OOS operation.
„ Counterclockwise (looking downhole) rotation is considered an OOS operation.
„ In drilling, reaming, and backreaming operations, vibration levels must be closely monitored and maintained
within specifications as per the INTEQ vibration management procedures; particularly the reaming and
backreaming can easily lead to an OOS operation.
„ Operation of standard tools in environments greater than 20,000 psi (1,380 bar) or operating higher pressure
tools beyond their pressure rating specification are each OOS operations. Certain tools rated for higher
pressures are available on request but require additional time for mobilization.
„ INTEQ specifications are based on proper and appropriate operation for any given application. INTEQ field
personnel must be given advanced notice of changes in operational parameters including circulatory changes
(pumping pills or slugs, mud weight, LCM, acid, etc.) so that they can implement proper procedures. Failure
to provide adequate advanced notice will result in an OOS operation.

Supplemental Specifications

Bending Moment / Dogleg Severity

„ Rotation or reaming across whipstocks is not allowed with high level services (resistivity and above).
Resulting damages will be charged to the customer. Effective DLS values must be calculated for whipstocks.
„ Rotation or reaming across any area of high local effective dogleg, exceeding the maximum specified dogleg,
is not recommended and is an OOS operation.
„ Local effective dogleg must be calculated to verify that Bending Moment specifications for the BHA being
utilized have not been exceeded for sliding operations (including local DLS across whipstocks).
„ Maximum allowed Bending Moment is calculated based on the assumption of ideal drilling conditions.
Maximum allowed Bending Moment will be reduced if tools are exposed to corrosive environments (fluids,
gases, etc.). To mitigate the effects of corrosive environments, adjustments to the maximum allowed Bending
Moment must be made taking into consideration such factors.

Drilling Fluids
„ The use of any INTEQ tool in any drilling fluid or other substance (cement, acid, etc.) whether intentionally
introduced or naturally occurring within the formation, which result in non-standard repair and maintenance
procedures or reduced life expectancy of an INTEQ tool is considered an OOS operation. Metal corrosion
and rubber / elastomer degradation are examples of this category of damage.
„ In water based muds, pH must be maintained between a pH of 9.0 and 12.5. The operation of tools in water
based muds below 9.0 pH or above 12.5 pH is considered an OOS operation. For fresh water based mud
systems, a pH between 8.0 & 9.0 is acceptable.
„ All drilling fluids contain corrosive elements such as chlorides. Fluids with chloride levels of <20,000 ppm
(20,000 mg/liter) have minimal effects in the down hole environment on the tools. Fluids with chloride levels
between 20,000 and 56,000 ppm (20,000 - 56,000 mg/liter) have medium effect and care must be taken when
coming back out of hole (flushing tools as described further below). When the chloride levels exceed 56,000
ppm (or >56,000 mg/liter) corrosion (even in the down hole environment) could be severe. It is therefore
advised to run corrosion inhibitors when chloride levels are planned to exceed 56,000 ppm (>56,000
mg/liter). As most damage to downhole tools actually occurs on the surface where oxygen is more readily
available to fuel the reaction, all tools must be thoroughly flushed and hosed, externally and internally, after
use in either OBM or WBM systems. The cleaning fluid should have a low chloride content - on the order of
fresh water (<500 ppm / <500 mg/liter). The customer is required to provide facilities and clean water as well
as the required rig time to perform these procedures. Failure to do so is considered to be an OOS operation.
„ Excessive amounts of abrasive solids and / or extraordinarily abrasive solids will cause extensive damage to
the downhole tool. With increasing mud weights, the total solids concentration in the mud system increases
significantly, the damage (erosion) internally to the tools is a function of flowrate and solids content. As low
density solids are generally more abrasive, an operator must run proper fluid cleaning systems to overcome
this problem. The mud screens (uphole and/or downhole) will be a good indicator of tool erosion on
MWD/LWD tools.

Supplemental Technical Specifications
„ Metal shavings, filings, scale, low gravity formation solids, or other materials which enter into the drilling
fluid through normal operation or otherwise can cause erosion or other damage to INTEQ tools. The presence
of abnormal levels of such abrasive materials is evidence of an OOS operation. When such evidence is
present and more than normal erosion is noted after strip down in the local workshop, an OOS claim will be
submitted.
„ Use of hematite as weighting material is considered an OOS operation and will require, prior to such use,
agreement between Baker Hughes and the operator with respect to (1) increased wear and tear on downhole
tools and (2) the OOS cost for the resulting wear and tear.
„ The use of other than granular fine to medium LCM (Lost Circulation Material) materials or the incorrect
preparation or application of LCM is considered an OOS operation.
„ The use of drilling fluids such as Silicate and Lamium are known to be destructive to downhole tools and,
therefore, the use of such fluids is considered an OOS operation and will require, prior to such use,
agreement between Baker Hughes and the operator with respect to (1) increased wear and tear on downhole
tools and (2) the OOS cost for the resulting wear and tear.
„ Magnetic interference due to ferrous materials in drilling fluids can result in degraded directional or
azimuthal orientation accuracy. Although INTEQ specifically disclaims any warranty as to any
interpretations and data quality, the integrity of any data will be negatively impacted under such
circumstances.

Environmental Conditions
„ When static hole temperatures equal or exceed 125 degrees Celsius, (257 degrees Fahrenheit) INTEQ high
temperature trip-in procedures must be applied for MWD and LWD operations. Please consult your local
INTEQ representative for specific guidelines.

Extraordinary/Other Conditions
„ Trip speed must be adjusted based on hole conditions, well profile, and BHA configuration. For example,
when passing through high dogleg areas, changes in hole size, whipstocks, casing shoes, etc. trip speed must
be reduced to a maximum of 150 ft/hr (45 m/hr) to account for these changes in hole conditions. For rib
steering devices it is recommended that operators consult with local INTEQ personnel for further detailed
information.

Vibration Management
„ The INTEQ model for vibration management is aimed at the prevention of non-visible fatigue damages to all
BHA components, with individual measures to "reset" the tools for further use without any downgrading of
specification, (i.e. downgrading of tools, as is done for drill pipe, is not allowed by INTEQ). Operation of
tools outside of the parameters set forth in the INTEQ model for vibration management is an OOS operation.

In drilling and reaming operations, vibration levels must be closely monitored and maintained within
specifications as per the INTEQ vibration management procedures.

The following table represents the cumulative vibration limits for any INTEQ tool in a single Tool
deployment.
