Reflection
This internship really helped me understand the needs of a beginning teacher. I was able
to make connections with students and staff in order to create a comfortable learning
environment for myself and for the students I taught. I took time to get to know my
students and understand their interest in the things that were being discussed in class. As
lessons were completed I reflected on the lessons and identified ways to make the lessons
more inclusive, especially for the students that did not fully enjoy coming to music class.
This internship helped rekindle my desire to become a teacher. After a difficult PSII, I
came here unsure if this was a career I wanted to continue, however the connections I
made here at École Nichols Sheran allowed for an environment that supported me as I
took risks. I learn new things about myself as well as strategies to use in the classroom.

Reflection
Before I began my internship, I decided that I wanted to make an impact on the school
before I left. I didn’t want to stay in the music room and just do what I had to in order
complete the internship. I made an effort to step outside of the music room, I spent time in
other general classrooms and observed other teachers as well as taught some lessons
myself. I took part in school activities that included playing in the teacher-student
basketball game and also volunteering to help out the basketball coaches in a league game.
Within music, I created my own hand bell ensemble that practiced weekly throughout the
duration of my time here and even performed with them during an assembly for the other
students in the school. I assisted with junior choir and rehearsed weekly and performed
with them during festival. As part of the Spring Concert, we performed a musical with all
grade 4 and 5 students. This took several months of preparation during class time as well
as working with individual students outside of class. There was choreography that
accompanied each song as well as spoken and sung solos. During my internship I made an
effort to step outside my comfort zone and it significantly improved my experience.
