The impact of globalization to the

civilization.
By the end of the presentation…
We will be able to,

1. List the impact of globalisation.

2. Explain WHAT CAUSED GLOBALISATION
3. Comprehend the Consequences due to Globalisation ( Both positive and
negatives)
What is globalization?

Is it the integration of economical, political, and cultural systems across the

globe?

Or is it Americanization and Westernization of world culture and United

States dominance of world affairs? Or perhaps, the "McDonaldization," or
“Statbuckization” of the world?

Is globalization a force for economic growth, prosperity, and democratic

freedom?

Or is it a force for environmental devastation, exploitation of the developing

world, and suppression of human rights?
What is Globalistation?
 Basically, Globalisation is the new buzzword that has come to dominate the world sinc
e the nineties of the last century with the end of the cold war and the break-up of t
he former Soviet Union.
 The term implies worldly integration of various cultures, styles, economic policies, ide
as, etc. It is basically how the world has been interconnected through a lot of means.
It must not be confused with “making things common around the world”. It is an integrat
ion, not simulation.
 For Instance :
There was a time when most regions were economically self-sufficient. Locally produced
foods, fuels and raw materials were generally processed for local consumption. Trade be
tween different regions was quite limited.
Today, the economies of most countries are so interconnected that they form part of a
single, interdependent global economy.

•Second phase - Christopher Columbus, The Printing Press,
Imperialism, Slave Trade, Mercantilism
•Third phase – Colonial Empires, 1945 - Present
WHAT CAUSED GLOBALISATION

GLOBALISATION

MOVEMENT
MOVEMENT OF
OF MOVEMENT GOODS AND SERVICES
PEOPLE OF
INFORMATION
Movement of People
Due to developed transportation, ease of information flow and digital maketing the amount of
people migrating to from one country to other has hiked upto around 41% compared to the number
in the year 2000.

People usually migrated for a various of reasons but these are the reasons people mostly migrated
for:

 Jobs
 Education
 Improved standar of Life
 Asylum and Refugees
Movement of Information
 The development of communication
technologies such as internet, email and
smart phones, mobile apps have been vital to
the growth of globalisation because they
help MNCs to operate throughout the world.

 The development of satellite TV channels

such as AL Jazeera and CNN have also
provided worldwide marketing avenues for
the concept and products of globalisation.
Movement of Goods and Services

 The development of refrigerated and container transport, bulk shipping and improved air
transport has allowed the easy mass movement of goods throughout the world.
 Economic globalization is the increasing economic interdependence of national economies a
cross the World through a rapid increase in cross-border movement of goods, services, te
chnology, and capital.

The equivalent of up to $US1.3 trillion is traded each day through international stock exchan
ges in cities such as New York, London and Tokyo.
Contentions and Controversies over
Globalization(Why Some People are against
It?)

1.Globalisation is used as an ideology by the powerful to deceive the people

about illusory benefits of a dehumanizing system; in other words,
globalization is a form of false consciousness that prevents people from
seeing their true interests.

2.There is also a threat of corporates ruling the world because there is a

lot of power, which is invested in them due to globalization

3.It is not subject to democratic control and therefore cannot serve the
interests of the people at large; new forms of democratic governance and
economic regulation will be needed to overcome this problem.

4.Millions of others fear losing their jobs, especially at those companies

operating under competitive pressure.
Positive Impacts of Globalization for
Life
•Information Easier to Obtain – Information has become easier to obtain with the hel
p of the growing digital technology.

•Communication is Easy and Fast - Globalization has made communication take less th
an a minute.

•The Rapid Development of Science and Technology - Positive effects of globalizatio

n can make the rapid development of science and technology.

•Increasingly Growing Economies - Globalization increases the availability of jobs and

reduces unemployment.

•Improving the Living Standard of the Community - More secure and peaceful countr
y.
Negative Impacts of Globalization for
Life
 More Individualistic Attitudes - The attitude of individualism is increasingly emerging and we s
hould be aware that man is a social being. Peopl losing values and ethics and those fundamentals
are replaced by materialism and greed.

 Widening income gap is a significant impact of globalisation-

This refers to the increased difference in the incomes of the rich and the poor, as the rich are
able to prosper more from the opportunities brought about by globalisation.

 Damage to the Environment- More trade means more transport which uses more fossil fuels an
d causes pollution. Climate change is a serious threat to our future.

 Insecured JOBS : In the global economy jobs are becoming more temporary and insecure.
Because MNCs search for the cheapest locations to manufacture and assemble components, product
ion processes may be moved from developed to developing countries where costs are lower.
Impact on Daily Life
 Role of Internet - The internet is considered to be the catalyst for global integration. It re
markably contributes to the spread of globalization due to its rapidity, easiness and availabilit
y.
 More Exchange of daily day Activities -We do what other people from other parts of the
world do instead of sticking to our own traditions or actually do both which is a mix.
 Loss of unique cultures - People tend to drown in other cultures and values that they often
tend to forget their own. The start believing in temporary appreciation rather than preserving
own identity.
Conclusion
There are many different technological uses that promoteglobalization. As you can
see from the examples given, technology is a big part of changing the way
peoplecommunicate and learn in the world today. People arestarting to rely on
technology more and more tocommunicate globally instead of traveling to places
that arefar away. Places that used to seem worlds away are nowwithin reach by the
click of a button.
