Narrative Report

I/ Introduction:

My role play roles include Son, Jade, Oliver, Lory, Jessie and me. Our team has selected Angry
Monkey's salary problem as the topic for our meeting.

I play the chairman, Jessie is the secretary, and Jade, Son, Lory and Oliver will debate about the
problem and the solutions.

II/ Knowledge/ Learning Acquired:

Teamwork is the process of working cooperatively with a group of people to achieve the goal. So
why do we have to do teamwork? The most obvious reason for this is that human beings are highly
social animals, connecting and helping each other help us survive, in short, it is our nature. In
modern society, in order to achieve higher efficiency in work, we must have teamwork. Here are
the benefits of it:

 Boosts Productivity: working in a team allows sharing of work among members and
distributing them according to the skills and strengths of each member.
 Provides a Support Network: During difficult and challenging times when team members
help and rely on each other for support and guidance. This allows them to remain focused
on the goal and they can accomplish the project more effectively.
 Builds Trust: Rely on others to build trust, and teamwork establishes strong relationships
with colleagues. Despite occasional disagreements, an effective team likes to work together
and share a strong bond.
 Teaches Conflict Resolution Skills: No one with the same personality, there will be
people with different personalities and they will clash in the workplace. They often have
different habits and working styles, and this can be frustrating. However, since each

7|Bruce
member of a team strives towards a common goal, they learn to resolve their own
disagreements for the benefit of the project and their team.

In this Role Play activity, we have noticed that teamwork helps us to find a more complete solution.
It may take longer to make a decision because there are arguments, but thanks to the contrary
opinions we can give a more comprehensive opinion.

Teamwork is a necessary skill for success. But in a group, there is not always a common voice, so
debate is indispensable and that is one of the things that help the group as well as individuals to
develop themselves. However, while these unique viewpoints create the most successful work,
they can also generate resentment that quickly turns into conflict, the debate should take place in
a controlled manner, the debate should not become out of control, that will create a fraction inside
the group. Anybody's opinion is worth listening to because it can be a good idea. Good
coordination will eventually produce a good result.

Also through this activity I understood how a minute meeting took place and how the system.
Although initially our group was confused between the roles in a meeting but in the end, all was
fine and our team had done pretty well.

Narrative Report

I/ Introduction:

In October and November 2017, CIE hosts a sports competition called Decathlon for its students
to participate. The content includes cheers leading, badminton, basketball, E-sport, field games,
bowling, swimming and volleyball.

II/ Knowledge/ Learning Acquired:

As I mentioned in the previous report, teamwork has many benefits, especially in the Decathlon
this time, because in the league are all sports that promote teamwork and team commitment. With
the result we achieved in a team spirit competition, this proves that we have a very good teamwork
compared to our competitors. This is a direct competition, so the benefits of teamwork are even
more important. To work well together, we have to have mutual trust, which helps us to help each
other, resulting in increased performance. Of course, we cannot avoid conflicts, but we have
ignored those conflicts, resolved them and worked together to achieve the common goal.

I participated in two courses including cheers leading and field games, because of injury so I was
unable to participate in other competitions. In our cheerleading, there was a delay in preparation
so we were unable to achieve the desired result. However, my whole class is happy, which helps
me to learn that when we face with a negative problem, a positive attitude will help us feel better.

Secondly, we only practiced for nearly 3 hours but were quite successful at some level, which
helped me to learn that collaboration in a group and a serious attitude would help the group achieve
hard goals. Also in field games, we won the first prize. Taking the first place in teamwork games
proves that we have good coordination between individuals.

However, me and Jessie as the leader of the cheerleading also made a mistake, that was not
encouraging the group early, we were too subjective with this contest so did not achieve the goal
10 | B r u c e
that we desire. Now I have learned that if you want to achieve your desired goal, you must start
working today. And the second thing is: for a leader, when operating, a cheerful but firm attitude
is a good thing, it helps the members of the group follow voluntarily.

To assess the effectiveness of the team, we have to rely on a number of factors as follows:

Towards a common goal: This is the first important factor that an effective team should have.
My Role Play and Decathlon team all have the same goal, which is to try to get the best results.

Preparation stage: This is the stage of preparation for what is to come. With Role Play, we did
well, everyone was well prepared, but for Decathlon there were some courses we did not prepare
well, typically cheers leading. There were so many other activities that made us so distracted that
when we got near to the test day we just started composing and rehearsing before the competition
one day, so we were not able to achieve the results we expected in this contest.

Commitment to the team: With this, we have done well with Role Play and in the Decathlon.
Everyone is committed to the team, from which there is concentration, determination and success.

Results of the contest: For Role Play, we had a pretty good result, and in Decathlon, SUD15 won
the competition. This is one of the obvious factors in assessing the effectiveness of the team.

4.1 The factors involved in planning and monitoring and assessment of

work performance
Task sequencing

In one day we have a lot of work to do, so in the same job, we have a lot of tasks that need to be
done. So, what should we do when every job needs to be completed? That is when we apply the
prioritizing task. Task prioritizing is when you classify your work, determine what is the most
important job and have the closest deadline to complete first, and which is less important and has
a deadline later. This can help us ensure that the most important things can be done within the time
limit. This is a very important skill in planning and monitoring work.

For example, in a day I eat, sleep, play, relax and do assignment. The most important thing is to
eat, then sleep, followed by assignment and finally relax, but my problem is to relax before

11 | B r u c e
assignment, so I rarely get merit, sometimes get pass and always redo. This is a negative
consequence for not knowing how to prioritize work.

For a company like Angry Monkey, there are not much human resources and time, so allocating
resources for something important is critical. They should have long term and short-term goals so
employees can know the direction of the company. Also train staff on this skill, or make them
familiar with prioritizing tasks by having each day a notice of what needs to be done today or
reminders from the supervisor about important task to do and its deadline, this point will be
discussed further in the following part below.

Work Scheduling

This is the next thing after the arrangement of the most important and the least important. All must
have a clear execution time, check list and content implementation. It should be clearly presented
to limit the confuse when looking at the timetable. With clear division of work and completion
times, it will make it easier, more complete and more efficient.

Once you have a clear plan, it is good to have everything done as planned, but what should Angry
Monkey do to ensure that everything goes according to schedule? So, there is a room for Check
and Controls.

Check and Controls

This is when a company applies the means to control and control its employees according to the
standards set by the company. This is also an important step in planning and monitoring work,
because when it comes to planning, it is useless if no one follows that plan.

With Angry Monkey, they can use attendance sheets, scorecards, meetings, feedback mechanisms
or supervised supervision. This will help the company take control of its employees and keep track
of the progress of the work.

Coordinating Functions

In a company, communication and deliver information between individuals as well as between

departments in the company is very important. So to work effectively and to fit together Angry
Monkey must have a good communication system between individuals and departments in the
company. With this, Angry Monkey can apply memos, bulletin boards, company emails or regular

12 | B r u c e
monthly meetings, which will help the company operate smoothly and understand each other
better.

Performance Review

Performance reviews are a key component of employee development. The performance review is
intended to be a fair and balanced assessment of an employee’s and the whole company
performance.

The objective of the annual review is to provide all regular university staff and their supervisors
an opportunity to:

 Discuss job performance

 Set goals for professional development

 Establish objectives for contributing to the department’s mission

 Discuss expectations and accomplishments
