Name of Article: “Gender Equality in Academia, Business, Technology and Health Care: A
WomenPower View in Cyprus”
Author(s): Kouta, Christiana, PhD; Parmaxi, Antigoni, PhD; Smoleski, Irene, MSc
Journal Name: International Journal of Caring Sciences
Date of Article: Sep-Dec 2017
Summary: The article discusses the gender inequality that women experience in the workplace,
specifically within EU nations. Research prevented in the article shows that women experience
lowere opportunities in the workforce, less chances for decision making opportunities, and
their work isn’t valued as highly as their male counterparts. This under-representation is
common in several realms of business including healthcare, entrepreneurship, academia, and
especially STEM. Women are often discriminated in gaining director positions due to the fact
that that they are more likely to take extended leave for childcare. A group called
Womenpower (WE-ME) was created to give women a voice to address these issues.

Title of Article: “Ready to Lead? A Study of Arkansas and Louisiana Charter School
Principals’ Leadership Skills”
Author: Creshun Anjal Price
Year: 2013
Summary: The purpose of the study was to find what leadership skills used by the principal led
to a charter school being successful. The study looked at both district conversion and open-
enrollment charters to conduct their research. The findings showed that despite the different
background and leadership skills exhibited by the principals for the different types of schools,
the schools showed a similar level of success. This evidence gave proof to the researcher that
the type of school was irrelevant to the success of the school. This led the researcher to believe

that these principals needed school leadership training that is made specifically for charter
school principals.

PART C

Name of Article: “Cryptocurrency and the Problem of Intermediation”

Author: Cameron Harwick
Journal: The Independent Review
Year: 2016
Summary: Cryptocurrencies have quickly risen over the past decade and most people are still
uncertain about their place in the market. Some claim that cryptocurrencies have the ability to
take over as the main form of currency over the already established central-bank currencies. The
researcher outlines that in order to do so, cryptocurrencies have several hurdles to go over. The
first of which are technical challenges. While most people have been largely accepting of the
recent transition from physical money to wire transfers, the researcher believes that Bitcoin has
to worry about certain trust issues that people may have with switching over completely to
paperless money. Cryptocurrencies will also have to get past institutional hurdles like dealing
with intermediaries.
