You are on page 1of 2

1) There are 3 diagonals that could hold 5 dragons: A1-E5, B1-F5 and F1-B5.

It can’t be the first one, because Harry is adjacent to two dragons, so it has to be
B1-F5 or F1-B5.
In both cases, the dragon in Harry’s column is in D3.
NORBERTA is in D3.
2) ERROL is in B2.
3) If there’s a dragon in B5, then all the dragons are on the F1-B5 diagonal.
Norberta says that all the dragons are adjacent to their champions, so
HUNGARIAN HORNTAIL is in E2.
4) We already have dragons from Hungary and Norway, so the alphabetical order
starts in F1 and ends in B5.
We’re missing dragons from China, Sweden and Wales, so
CHINESE FIREBALL is in F1…
5) … SWEDISH SHORT-SNOUT is in C4, and…
6) … COMMON WELSH GREEN is in B5.
7) Chinese Fireball says, that rows 2 and 3 are only Gryffindors, so there’s only one
space left for his champion from Durmstrang -
VIKTOR KRUM is in E1.
8) Welsh Green says that one of the corners is an acromantula, and Norberta says
that „every creature is adjacent to all of their owners in the puzzle”.
Both Aragog and Norberta will have to be adjacent to Hagrid. The only way for that
to happen is if
ARAGOG is in F5…
9) … and HAGRID is in E4.
10) Hagrid has to be talking about Kreacher, and he has to be adjacent to not only
Hagrid, but also Harry, his owner. The only way for that to happen is if
KREACHER is in E3.
11) Aragog says that „there are only two humans in the first row”, we already have
Krum and Short-Snout says that C1 is human, so there are no more humans in the
first row.
Alas, the Marauder that Krum is adjacent to has to be in F2.
Kreacher says that his „only two masters in the quiz are in the row above”. They
also have to be adjacent to him. We already have Harry, so the other owner is a
Marauder.
SIRIUS BLACK is in F2.
12) Sirius is obviously talking about Buckbeak, who has to be adjacent to him and
Hagrid, so
BUCKBEAK IS IN F3.
13) Cedric shares a diagonal with Buckbeak but he also has to be adjacent to his
dragon, the Swedish Short-Snout, so
CEDRIC DIGGORY is in D5.
14) Cedric is talking about Pettigrew, who also would be the second Marauder Krum
is talking about.
Kreacher says that „the only three Weasleys in the quiz are vertically adjacent”, and
they have to be adjacent to Errol, so they have to be either in A1-A3 or C1-C3.
Welsh Green says that „the other corners are occupied by a cat, a snake”, so the 3
Weasleys are in C1, C2 and C3.
If there are two of Pettigrew’s owners in the quiz, then two of the Weasleys will be
Percy and Ron. Pettigrew will have to be adjacent to both of them.
The only way for Pettigrew to be adjacent to two of the Weasley boxes is if he’s in
B1, D1 or B3.
Again, Aragog says that „there are only two humans in the first row”, so Pettigrew
can’t be in B1 or in D1. The last option is that
PETTIGREW is in B3.
15) That means that C2 and C3 are Percy and Ron (we don’t know which is which),
and C1 is some other Weasley.
If there’s a pygmy puff though, that would have to be Arnold, and he would have to
be adjacent to his owner, the remaining Weasley in C1, so
ARNOLD is in B1…
16) … and his owner,
GINNY is in C1.
17) B4 is the last box in Pettigrew’s column, and there’s only one toad we know of,
so
TREVOR is in B4.
18) If the last row has 8 heads, and there are only 6 boxes, we can guess that one
of them is occupied by the three headed dog. His owner was Hagrid, so he has to be
adjacent to him. In that case,
FLUFFY is in E5.
19) Fluffy says that there are only 3 owls. Buckbeak says that there are „two owls
whose names start with the same letter”. We don’t know of any other owls starting
with „E”, but we definitely know two owls that start with „H” - Hedwig and Hermes.
The first one has to be adjacent to Harry, so
HEDWIG is in D1…
20) … and the other one in the same column, so
HERMES is in D4.
21) Buckbean also says, that „there are two dogs whose names start with the same
letter”, we already have Fluffy, so the other one would be Fang. There’s one last box
adjacent to his owner, so
FANG is in F4.
22) We need to place Hermes’ owner in the puzzle, and there’s only one „Weasley”
box adjacent to the owl, so
PERCY is in C3…
23) … and the other owner of Pettigrew,
RON, is in C2.
24) The first horcrux is Harry, and since the puzzle doesn’t contain objects, the
other one will be Nagini. It fits with Welsh Green’s clue („The other corners are
occupied by a cat, a snake and an acromantula”) -
NAGINI is in A5.
25) We have one last box adjacent to Nagini, so her owner -
VOLDEMORT - is in A4.
26) The last corner is left for a cat, and since we know Hermione is somewhere here
as well, we can safely assume that
CROOKSHANKS is in A1…
27) … and HERMIONE is in A2.
28) There’s one last box adjacent to Welsh Green, so
FLEUR is in C5.
29) We have one last pet left without an owner - the toad - so we fill in the last box:
NEVILLE is in A3.
