Document of Artifacts: ELCC Standard 6.

0 Political Leadership

Description of Artifact

In order to meet the needs of students who were frequently receiving office

referrals, we implemented social skills intervention groups. We chose Skillstreaming as one of

our social skills intervention programs. We were able to advocate for extra noon attendant

funding and this allowed us to have noon attendants work more hours each day. We trained

paraprofessionals to help deliver Skillstreaming lessons. Attached is a flier that went home to

families about the Skillstreaming groups.

Alignment to ELCC Standard 6.0 Political Leadership

We asked for extended noon attendant time in order to have individuals who could help

with the implementation of social skills intervention groups (ELCC 6.1, 6.2). The district has a

goal of 100% of students feeling safe at school, and one way to help reach this goal is to provide

students with the social skills needed to behave in a safe manner (ELCC 6.3).

Significance

As an educational leader, it is important for me to know when to advocate for my school,

students and community. I am able to do this at the district level by talking with my supervisors

and advocating for the people and funding that my school needs. Know the emerging trends on

school safety and suspension policies gave me the opportunity to work with my mentor to

implement pro-active disciplinary measures in our school. Our goal was to change student

behavior while keeping the school safe. Providing social skills intervention groups was a step in

working towards this goal.

Dear Parent,

As part of the behavior intervention plan at Eagle River Elementary,

students may be invited to participate in Skillstreaming Sessions.
Children who share a common concern meet together with Eagle River
Staff to receive support through Skillstreaming Lessons. Skillstreaming
