1. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE.
2. The total area of the UAE is 83,600.
3. The UAE has seven united emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-
Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. These emirates were governed by a federal
system founded on the 2 December 1971.
4. The UAE is located at the southern tip of the Arabian Gulf.
5. The neighboring countries are Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman.
6. The UAE has a tropical desert climate with very little or no rainfall.

- Describe the education system in the UAE.


1. The education in the United Arab Emirates is relatively new compared to other
countries. It is divided into two groups which are public and private sector. The
public sector is for the UAE nationals which has strong Islamic and Arabic influence,
while the private sector was found for expatriates to meet their religious, cultural and
education needs. There are almost equal number of private and public sector in the
UAE.

- List the four educational systems followed along the education system of
the UAE.
1. Kindergarten - age level from: 4 to 5 years old
2. Primary - length of programme in years: 6, age level from: 6 to 12
3. Preparatory - length of programme in year: 3, age of level: from 12 to 15
4. Secondary - length of programme in year: 3, age of level: 15 to 18

- What is the aim and vision of the educational system in the UAE?
1. Aim: updating of policy and continual investment in infrastructure is required to
ensure that graduates are probably equipped to enter the work force and assist in
the country's development.
2. Vision: a strategy for further educational development in the UAE up to the year
2020, articulate in a number of five-years plans.

1. The UAE's internal environment: social needs, economic needs, strategic needs and
skill sets required is assessed.

economic factors, UAE's foreign policy and relations and UAE's future ambitions as
far as its position in the education sector globally.

- Explain this statement in your own words “Based on both internal and
external factors, skill sets required for students who will be joining the
workforce in the future are decided. This is followed by the development of a
curricular framework and guidelines that would subsequently be used in
development of textbooks and other teaching material.”
1. Based on the internal and external factors of the UAE, the country seeks to
graduate generations with specific skill sets that might be required for student's
workforce in the future. Therefore, these skills are being used to develop textbooks
and teaching materials.

- Who are the stakeholders of decision making the ministry?


1. His Highness office.
2. Secretary.
3. Undersecretary Committee.

- Choose three positions in the system structure of MOE and list their
responsibilities.
1. His Highness Office: supports the administrative activities.
2. The technical office of his highness: developing plans and monitoring

3. Undersecretary committee: advise the minister on the strategic planning issues of


the educational system.

- Choose one goal from each level and discuss possible way on how it can
be achieved?
1. Pre-school: the natural care of the child and the social, mental and physical
development within the Islamic tradition - specifying an Arabic/Muslim teacher to
develop the social, mental and physical development for the student.
2. Primary education: motivating the child to acquire knowledge and to be curious to
develop his habit to achieve and educational balance - support the eight intelligence
in teaching.
3. Secondary: expansion of study of foreign languages alongside of the compulsory
curriculum - teach students other languages like French and Chinese, specific after
school club for that.

- How curriculums are assessed and through what process?


Teachers involved in delivering the curriculum were the first group, the second group
consisted of supervisors who are involved with evaluating the curriculum and
delivery and providing input for future curriculum development while the
undersecretary of curriculum who oversaw the development of textbook and
teacher’s guides represented the third group.
