The European Federation for the Science and Technology of Lipids (Euro Fed Lipid,

http://www.eurofedlipid.org/index.htm) is a federation of ten scientific associations throughout


Europe that represents circa 1700 persons and companies. In order to enhance the membership
of the professionals who belong to it, Euro Fed Lipid supports divisions whose main objective is
to provide individuals with the opportunity to network and discuss issues with colleagues in a
specific technical area. Based of the fact that the federation is highly interested in proving this
kind of forum for its members, a group of professionals from academic and from industry has the
intention of constituting a Division on Olive Oil with the support of Euro Fed Lipid.
The main objective of the Division is that the current olive oil challenges can have proper
responses from the academics in conjunction with professionals working in the industries,
research centres and governmental offices.
The objectives of the Division would be that you gained access to updated information on a
series of scientific and technical areas, you could exchange experiences in particular meetings
and courses, you might find partners for international R&D projects or for contributing to articles
in reputed journals, and much more.
Many professionals, from academic/research and from industry, are going to attend the 4th Euro
Fed Lipid Congress (Madrid, 1-4 October 2006),

in the course of which the most innovative researches on Olive Oil will be presented and
discussed. We think that it can be a good opportunity to meet all of us and to analyse the
constitution of the Division.
As a multitudinous meeting might end in chaos without an agenda, I have added a questionnaire
to know your opinion, as possible member of the Olive Oil Division, about several subjects. The
three main issues are:
(i) the topics that should be taken into account inside the division,
(ii) the objectives that should be priorities for the division, and
(iii) the need of being sponsored.

What can you expect from Olive Oil Division?


Joining the division we want you feel having a network of individuals with experiences related to
your technical field. When the Division is constituted you will gain access to updated information
on a series of scientific and technical areas, you will be able to exchange your experiences in
particular meetings and specialized courses coordinated by Euro Fed Lipid, you will have the
opportunity to participate in the constitution of international R&D projects and to contribute to
articles in reputed journals, and much more. The Division will cover a broad range of topics
including production, quality, analytics, health, nutrition, consumers and commerce among
others. One thing is sure, any scientific field pertinent to olive oil will have experts inside the
division who want to share their passion for olive oil with you. And no matter where you live or
work, the Division is open to professionals from any continent.

Taking part in the division will be free of charge, you only have to be a member of Euro Fed
Lipid, either by direct membership or by membership in one of the participating national
societies. Even employees of corporate members are considered members.
