When it comes to the car game
it’s been said that you’re only as
good as your latest accomplishment.
And while there’s truth to that,
it really doesn’t extend beyond
our achievements and personal
creations. Outside of that arena,
what matters most are the
relationships you cultivate and
how you inluence and interact
with those around you—especially
nowadays where people are addicted
to Instagram.
Today, far too many have
become obsessed with their social
following—or lack thereof. hey’ve
traded in quality for quantity and
replaced morals for materialism. But
with bad comes the good, and this
new social phenomenon has actually
made me appreciate good folks with
old-school values. So as the hecklers
continue trolling, I’ll spend more
time focusing on those who count.
hose who make moves in silence,
those who champion quality over
quantity, and one of those people
worthy of mention is our current
cover car owner, Orlando Ceballos.
His encore cover car feature
attraction is a beautiful '79 Monte
Carlo, and it’s a far departure from
what anyone had expected him to
build. Known best for his deep-
seated roots in the Radical Class,
Orlando busted out with a car that
functioned much like a traditional
vehicle. he doors, hood, and trunk
opened like normal cars and it was
a radical departure from his former
build, “Game Over.”
His contributions to the
game are quite epic but an even
bigger contribution is simply his
personality. A genuine, caring
person who always leads by
humble example, Mr. Ceballos is
a customizer who has always built
what he’s wanted instead of what he’s
supposed to. Each of his cars is an
extension of his creative vision, and
he’s proof that a man makes the car
and not the other way around.
To be honest, I’ve seen far too
many people attach their position
to their cars, and that does little
for one’s self. A car may bring you
joy and satisfaction, but much like
money it magniies who you are
by tenfold. hat said, this is why
we created the Roll Models series.
Now entering our third successful
season, we’ve been blessed to have
been given the opportunity to
create this series, much in part
to Shell and Quaker State. It was
our belief that lowriding needed
more transparency. We wanted to
showcase the owner over the car
and show you the empowering
personalities that take our scene to
the next level.
Inspiring for some, educational
for others, the Roll Model series
explores the impact of not only the
cars but the owners themselves.
From world-class doctors to
high-ranking CFOs, the lowrider
community is made up of hard-
working car lovers who range from
law enforcement oicials to lawyers,
DJs, and business owners.
So, as we make our way into
another year, we’re packing the
issues with more substance. In
this issue we’ve got coverage of
the Lowrider Sanctioned Tejano
Super Show. Produced by Lowrider
Hall-of-Famer, Nick Hernandez, his
marathon of shows now includes a
milestone 46th annual.
But here’s a little back end to
that story. I’ve been a friend of
Mr. Hernandez for quite some
time and all I can say is that the
man is resilient and the real deal.
I personally don’t know of anyone
who has powered through so much
adversity, but then again it would
be hard to tell. Mr. Hernandez has

powered through life with pride,
love, and sacriice, and to say that
he’s a diehard legend would still not
give him the credit—or justice—he
deserves. hat said, may God bless
him with even more spirituality
and wisdom as he celebrates his
upcoming 47th.
Also in this special issue is a
barrage of cars from all around the
world. We’ve got some cool custom
cars, trucks, and bomb features;
you’ll ind an incredible story about
a killer ’37 Lincoln Zephyr from
Southern California, a jade green
’73 Caprice from Tennessee, an
’84 Cadillac from New York, and a
tricked-out S-10 mini-truck coming
out of Arizona.
So as we continue to celebrate car
culture and all the good that comes
with it, just remember to dream
big and work hard. hese cars don’t
come overnight and it takes a lot of
sweat, patience, and perseverance to
get it all done. Learn to appreciate
the hard work others have put into
the game and remember that when
it comes to life and lowriding there
are no shortcuts. In addition, don’t
let the negativity of other’s envy
break you down, and remember
that real recognize real so use your
positivity to inluence the growth of
others because at the end of the day
our lowriders are cool, but it is our
personalities and actions that truly
deine us.

A decade ater winning Lowrider
of the Year (LOTY), Orlando Ceballos
was planning a comeback, but this
time around there was a plot twist. As
word began to spread so did curiosity.
Some wondered what he’d come back
with. Others began to envision how
extreme he’d go. But all the gossip came
with good reason since his last build
was a true “radical” in every sense.
Deserving of its moniker “Game
Over,” his LOTY award-winning
Cadillac featured a host of extreme
mods. From splitting doors to a tilting
front end, the Cadillac was so extreme
one could only imagine the crowd's
surprise when he showed up to the
Vegas Show with an ultraclean street
car. “I wanted to build something I
could cruise,” Orlando explains. “I
wanted to build a ‘Lifestyle’ type of car
that focused on paint and interior, so
that became my focus.”
To begin the revamp, Orlando
started bodyworking the car. While
removing imperfections, his creativity

car. In the process Orlando decided
to convert the quarter-panel windows
into functioning, powered units.
Looking to freshen up the frame, he
took it all apart and sent a ton of parts
out for chrome. Since his frame was
apart, he decided to spray it with a
candy teal, and while reassembling the
car decided to throw in a set of disc
brakes, helping bring the beast to a
quicker stop.

additional patterns throughout the
car. Additional work from pinstriper
extraordinaire Mike Lamberson is
also found in the scheme.
With the paint complete, it wouldn’t
have made any sense at all to slap it
back together with stock parts, so
Orlando ordered a custom grille from
Krazy Kutting while Dave Castaneda
engraved a bevy of parts, including the

diamond-cut slowdown valves, and

Inside, Juan Castro inessed a
Pioneer double-din head unit into a
custom center console that was then
connected to a set of Alpine amps
and speakers. he G-body was then
shipped to California Upholstery for
a complete interior overhaul. Inside
they used leather and suede (color-
matched to the exterior hues) while a
set of newer GM seats ofer passengers
a plush and snug ride. Final interior

touches come by way of a CPP steering
wheel and the addition of a “Día de los
Muertos” mural by Albert Herrera.
As a former mini-trucker in the
’80s, Orlando has illed many shoes.
He’s walked alongside the industry’s
best radicals, taken home some of the
most prestigious awards, and with
his new build Orlando has not only
elevated his skillset but contributed
to the evolution of lowriding and the
lifestyle we all love. O

When Hugo Reyna set out
to build a lowrider he wanted
something more than just pretty.
He wanted a lowrider with show
and go and a classic that wasn’t
allergic to the elements, unlike so
many of the trailer queens he’d seen
in the past. As an avid lowrider
who had humble beginnings at
just 18 years old, he could never
understand why anyone would
build a trailer queen, so he
chose to build a street soldier,
which was appropriately named
“El Callejero,” which loosely
translated means “wandering in
the streets.”

Impala, a car he enjoyed for three
years until he had to sell it off when
news came that he was about to be
a father.
While enjoying the fruits of
fatherhood, his love for lowriding
continued to grow. He still had
dreams of getting back into it so
once he was financially sound,
he purchased a car that he would
keep so he scooped up a '73 Chevy
Caprice Classic from his friend
Big O.
Nothing more than a rolling
shell, the Caprice Classic was in
dire need of a restoration, so his
first step was to add a 350 V-8 crate
motor. As the car came together, he

Culver (Culver Customs) applied
the custom paintjob while all trim
was sent out to Perfection Plating
for a new lease on life. Finishing
touches came by way of Castaneda
Engraving, who accented the car in
all the right places.
True to his word, Hugo kept
his promise to keep El Callejero a
street soldier—and that’s exactly
what it is. No stranger to the city,
his car is a welcomed guest on the
streets, and in what is considered
an unwritten rule of lowriding he
keeps his foot planted on the gas
and brings it out whenever he can.

He sums it up best when he says,
“I have never understood how
someone can put all this effort and
hard work into a car to just let it
sit in the garage or on a trailer.”
Hugo adds, “I want to spend every
moment I can behind the wheel
and enjoy what I’ve built.”
In closing, Hugo wishes to
thank Jose V, Big O, Beto, Robert,
Sergio, Chris O, and his amazing
kids, Claudia and Adrian. In all,
they have sacrificed their time to
help him create his dream and has
reached a pinnacle of success that
truly makes him complete.

When Roger Troutman sang the
chorus “California knows how to
party” he wasn’t kidding—but he
probably also never visited Seattle for
their annual Seafair Festival. Now,
don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to
discredit Cali, but the annual Seafair
Festival is absolutely insane.
he Seafair Festival started back
in 1950 and today it’s pushing
phenomenal numbers. With over
30 community events, 10 signature
events, and over 2 million people
reached, this is not just a festival, it’s
a major production. With the help
of 3,000 volunteers and 68 years in
the making, Seafair has over 30
communities in the Seattle area
simultaneously hosting events to
kick of summer.
As part of their event, the Jubilee-
Days committee asked our good
friends from Eazy Duz It to be in
charge of hosting a car show, and
they agreed. hey were granted
space on 17th Avenue between 98th
and 100th Streets, and what looked
like a massive amount of space
wound up being jam-packed with
well over 200 cars—and let’s not
forget the countless amount of cars
that had to be turned away.

A Seafair At the show, thousands of spectators

showcase in enjoyed the majesty of the city’s best
Seattle. custom cars, and along with the eye
candy were raffles as well as hydraulic
building competitions. A special
ceremony at the event also honored a
few lowriding veterans who helped pave
the way for lowriding and the club; in all
it was an automotive heaven.
Due to the overwhelming
response, plans are already underway
to grant this attraction more space, so
stay tuned and stay up to date because

When Brooklyn native Mike
Guptar began working on his
project car, a '59 Impala, he
entered with enthusiasm. Hours
later he’d quickly abandon the
project. You see, it didn’t take long
for him to realize that it was going
to need a whole hell of a lot of
work. Knowing just how long
it was going to take, he couldn’t
bear the thought of having
nothing to cruise for that length
of time, so he left it to sit and
instead purchased a former club
member’s '84 Cadillac De Ville.
In much better condition than
the '59 it still needed plenty of
work, so he began by purchasing
a '90 Cadillac to be used as a
parts car. From it, he’d strip the
front clip, rear bumper, and just

“I transplanted everything I
could from the '90 into the '84,
including the interior to get that
updated look.” The car then went
to S&R Autobody where they
doused the body in metallic blue.
A year later, the car still wasn’t
complete but his desire to cruise
got the best of him so he began
cruising the car as-is.
During that time he saw a
photo of a Cadillac with power
quarter windows and he was
taken aback. He also knew he
could do the same but take it
a step further by making the
back window roll down as well.
Wasting no time, he got to work
and after a few more cruises he
was ready to finish off everything
else on the list. He started by
having Marvin Shivnarain lay out
roof patterns in candy blues and
greens while also adding some
light blue and gold ’striping on
the body. Mike then dropped in a
two-pump setup while Arian Ali
installed the beat.
Not one to be rushed, Mike
now has a superclean Caddy
that he’s proud of and plans on
jumping back on the '59 rag. It’ll
only be a matter of time before
he’s done, but if it turns out
anything like his Caddy it’s sure
to become the follow-up that
everyone will be talking about for
years to come.

doubt that Nick Hernandez (a 2006
LRM Hall of Famer) would deliver
yet another colossal lowriding
extravaganza to celebrate the much-
anticipated 46th annual Tejano Super
Show. he Lowrider-sanctioned two-
day afair in Odessa, Texas, dispensed
exceptional rides, remarkable music
lineups, plentiful vendors, and the
opportunity for fans and car owners
to enjoy the weekend bonding with
fellow lowriders. By far the most
distinguished happening in the Lone
Star State, this event came to life much

music ticket featured SPM’s son, JD
Coy, Carolyn Rodriguez, Tiny B, and
Houston’s own Z-RO. West Texas
bad boy, DJ Lil Mario, who has been
dubbed as an oicial KiddNation
DJ spun the 1s and 2s in between the

homas Padilla has been a member
of Brown Society Car Club since it
was founded back in 2010. At the time
he owned an '83 Chevy Monte Carlo
and an '83 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Of
the two cars, the Monte Carlo was
converted into an award-winning
showstopper while the Cutty took
backstage. he Monte Carlo was built
so well that it gave homas a name
in the car show circuit and in the
process it took home multiple awards
as well as various features, including
one in Lowrider.
With his Cutlass still in the
process of being upgraded and
customized, homas admits that
the project was dragging along at a
snail’s pace. He wanted something
new and that’s when a conversation
with the club’s California chapter
president, David Felix, changed
things up. homas says that he’d
always joke around with Felix, oten
he asking him to sell him the truck, but
mini-truck
era kept the question was always rejected,
lowriding with David saying “I won’t ever sell
much alive in
the '80s. it.” As the ofers continued, homas
changed the tone of his approach
and that’s when he told David that
should he ever want to sell it all he
needed was a 30-day notice and he’d
pick it up.
Well, about two years ago, the
phone rang and homas got his
30-day notice! homas could not

this show truck that was already in
perfect condition. It was not only
award winning, but also freeway
driveable! Ater a few days and a lot
of text messages, homas and David
met up at the halfway point between
Casa Grande, Arizona, and Visalia,
California, to make the exchange. It’s
always good when a car or truck can
stay within a club when going to a new
owner. With the truck already in show
condition there wasn't much it needed,
but homas did want to add his little
twist on it, making his irst stop at
Aterlife Hydraulics in Phoenix so it
could get a complete makeover on the
custom hydraulic setup.
homas says he is very satisied
with the truck’s status now but may
consider a tilt bed setup since those
seem to be making a comeback
nowadays. Stay tuned on that!

Zephyr was Still hopeful and to no avail, he tried to

Chrysler being a man of his word,” David says.

an attempt to ease the awkwardness
of the situation, the seller asked David
what kind of other cars he was interested
in. It turns out the seller had a pretty
sizable collection, including a couple of
Mercs, a few ’50s, a few ’30s, a Rivi, and
as he rambled on he heard “'37 Lincoln
Zephyr.” In an instance, David began
to ask more questions about the Zephyr
and that conversation took him on a
journey up to Santa Maria to see it in
person. “A '37 Zephyr was on top of my
bucket list of cars that I wanted and the
opportunity just fell in my lap!” David
says, as he goes into the story. Upon his
arrival, there it was, his dreams were
within arm’s reach, but the asking price
a lot further. Knowing that he couldn’t
aford it, David managed to work out a
deal in which he would give up a '36 Ford
coupe on top of some cash—and the deal
was done.
A bit weathered and showing signs of
aging, the Zephyr was in otherwise good
condition. Looking to breathe life and
luster back into the paint, it was dropped
of to Richie Valles where he doused
the car with a fresh coat. Since the car
was previously bagged, the system was
dated so they replaced it with a new unit,
allowing the car to sit even lower than
before. To eliminate what little was let
of the rubber in the wheelwells, David
swapped out the 15-inch artillery wheels
for a set of 16s and had the original
hubcaps modiied to it.
Since completing the Zephyr, it’s
seen its fair share of action. Hardly
one to sit around, David says he’s
not a fan of conventional car shows,
which is why you’ll most likely spot
him on a cruise or taking it out to the
grocery store. But amidst all the eyes
he attracts are also a good amount
of ofers to buy the car—all of which
are graciously denied, but who could
blame him? In the past decade, the
Zephyr may have fell of the radar
and experienced a tumultuous sales
history, but not now. In the past few
years the interest in the Zephyr has
brought about a revival to not only
its past but its pricing, and that’s a
good thing for David.

he '64 Impala seems to have become
the unoicial sweetheart of lowriding. It’s
amassed a cult following and in a weird
way it seems like everyone’s either buying
one, selling one, or looking to lip one.
Even people who aren’t really into them
are looking to score on a good deal, and
things are no diferent for Jose Haro, a
former owner of several '64 Impalas.
hroughout the years, Jose has owned
his fair share of the boxy coupes, but
there was one in particular that was a
keeper. He had intentions of doing a full
restoration but ater inding out a baby
was on the way, the Impala project was
put on hold. As years passed, so did
his interest in completing the car, so he
took to the Net to look for something
new. Ater weeks of scouring the Web,
he spotted a post for an all-original
'64 Chevy C10 longbed. Up to that
point, Jose had never owned a truck,
but there was something that caught
his attention, so he shot for the moon
and contacted the owner. Not knowing
what to expect, he asked if they’d be
his lowrider interested in trading for a '64 Impala and
truck hauls
around within hours the two struck a deal and
diferent
mixtures he became the new owner of a C10.

vehicle, the beastly truck was juiced
by M&M Hydraulics who installed a
double-whammy setup.

it’s no '64 Impala like he had originally
planned, but it’s a lean, clean, mean ride
that’s already winning over his family.
When he originally purchased the truck
he thought of it as a temporary project
that he’d ultimately lip, but ater his son
fell in love with it and “suggested that I
keep it and use it to transport his trike
to shows, I thought it was a great idea;
so I kept it,” Jose tells LRM.

Ask anyone who has customized a
few cars as to which project they liked
best and they’ll probably tell you: “he
next one.” In essence, building custom
cars is about reinventing yourself; and
the only chance you’ll get to execute
those new plans is by starting another
project. It’s what we live for, it’s what we
do, and it’s exactly the case for Ernie
Enciso from Victorville, California.
It was about 10 years ago when Ernie
was looking to start a new project and
he didn’t have to look far. His friend was
selling an '01 Silverado so he wasted no
time picking it up, and what you see here
is the inal culmination of many failures
and plenty of headaches.
Back when he initially took
ownership of the truck, his irst custom
paintjob was done in pearl white but

break, Ernie says, “I was looking at
all my chrome parts and how good
everything [turned] out, and I didn’t
want all that work to have been done
in vain.” He decided to go at it one
more time and since he was a fan of
Brandywine, he had Mojave Paint

When a lowrider is building his
cars, choosing color schemes and
body design patterns, he is thinking
about the inal result as a masterpiece
worthy of being displayed at the inest
car shows. What we fail to realize
sometimes is that there may be little
eyes watching the process and taking
note of the many artistic details coming
together on a building creation. Such
was the case with Albert Galaviz
and his daughter, Megan. As Albert
built lowriders throughout her entire
childhood, Megan became inluenced
from a very young age by the color play
and designing aspects that she watched
her father create, as well as all the very
creative car artistry from her dad's car
club custom builds. Aside from building
lowriders, Megan also saw her dad build
model cars, painting them with creative
details. Instead of paying attention at

Nothing
like some she never expected the negativity
negativety to that some people began to post in her
motivate talent
within. comments section. “No one will ever
pay you for that,” was one comment that
hit her hard. Motivated by that same
negativity, Megan threw herself deeper
into her art, inding that painting
with oils was especially therapeutic.
At 16 years old, her irst art piece sold
for $250 in a Downtown Phoenix art
gallery. Nowadays, her art can be found
displayed in various Phoenix galleries
and she is considered a legitimate up-
and-coming artist, with a wait-list time
of several months. Her versatility and
dedication is well known in the artist
community, and her young age only
adds to her clout.
Megan’s dream is to become a
video game designer or perhaps even a
Disney/Pixar artist, but for now she is
happy shutting out the negativity and
breaking through her growing artistic
abilities. While she looks to the future of
her art, she remembers the origins too
… little eyes watching as those candy
paint schemes and lines are laid down
onto a lowrider, and all the details that
go into creating a work of art.

Whereas some jump around try-
ing to find their niche, others like
John Alvey of Louisville, Kentucky,
are born right into it. It’s been said
that we’re all by-products of our
environment, and for John, well,
let’s just say that he was destined
to cultivate his own creativity
and drive. “I’ve always been into
anything with a motor and wheels,”

John says. “It just so happened my
father had a garage full of motor-
cycles,” so as a third-generation
bike lover, John was destined to
ride his path on two wheels.
At 13, John couldn’t purchase or
ride a motorcycle, so he did the next
best thing by taking on a summer
job cutting lawns. John took the
irst $20 bill he made and went into

a Schwinn bicycle store. Of course
he didn’t realize how little his $20
would get him, and soon became
dejected when he saw the prices of
bicycles. he owner saw a disap-
pointed young boy and brought an
older vintage Stingray out from the
back, agreeing to let John have it for
his $20.
John practiced his crat by custom

painting and adding lowrider addi-
tions to the bicycle. At 17, John began
searching for his irst motorcycle by
calling every dealership in his state,
and even expanding outside the state.
he only Harley model that had every-
thing he wanted was in Ohio, about a
16-hour roundtrip ride. Once again
light on funds, John borrowed money
from his dad, loaded up, and went to
pick it up. He continued to “customize
the hell out of it” as he started his irst
oicial job as a custom painter.
In 2003, John decided to purchase a
'99 Harley-Davidson Sotail Springer
and that same year he opened his own
custom paint and body shop called
Alvey’s Bodyworx in Louisville. he
very irst thing John did to his new
Harley was stretch the rear fender 9½
inches and custom-it a '39 Buick tail
on it for the old-school look. John also
custom fabricated a one-of fender and
shaved the rivets on the front fender so
he could have a nice, lat canvas to prep
for custom paint.
John laid down a silver basecoat and
silver metallake while the graphics
were being added. Candy root beer
paint was used to coat the entire body
of the Harley. To give the motor a cus-
tom feel, John bought and assembled a
124 S&S super sidewinder motor and
built it to specs. He got the heads to
the machine shop for some nice port
and polish work. he motor was sent
of to Henry Higgs for some touchups
and polishing. he rear swing arm was
modiied to lay low and tuck the rear
wheel. he oil tank was built one-of to
hide the swing arm since it had been
modiied to come up further, which
would have hit the stock oil tank.
After all the big pieces of the
puzzle were in place, it was time
to make a seat pan and get it off to

hey say everything comes
back in fashion. hese days, that
deinitely seems to be the case. With
everyone wearing Nike Cortezs,
large earring hoops, and lowrid-
ing back to being the thing to do,
you would think it was the ’90s all
over again. If you were around the
car show scene during that time
then you might remember seeing a
very unique lowrider bike created
by Glenn Pablo. he bike he built
became part of San Diego lowrider
history and with a heavily laked
paint scheme that varied on each
side the bike is still remembered to
this day. Much like the ’90s Pablo’s
bike would eventually become just
a memory, as it ended up in storage
where it sat for over 15 years.
he bike would be poised for a
comeback when a chance encounter
with Amahury Mendoza and Pablo
led to a deal to buy the bike and free
it from the storage jail it had been
captive in for so long. Amahury
found out that the years had not
been kind to the bike, but with a
little TLC she could be returned to
her glory days. he bike already had
a notched frame and kickstand, but
the once-famous paint had to be
redone. Having two diferent paint-
jobs presented some challenges, but
