We have really enjoyed working with your child this semester.

Throughout this semester,

we were able to build relationships with your child and were really able to get to know your
child.
During our time here we have worked with your child on weather. We did a lesson about
the different seasons, and then focused on Spring and the water cycle. During our lesson about
the seasons, we read a book to the class and then the students participated in an object sort. The
students categorized different objects (such as a swimsuit, a snow boot, and a pine cone) into the
different seasons on the carpet. The students really seemed to enjoy being able to interact with
all of the different objects and talk about why these objects belong to a specific season.
After we learned about the four seasons, we focused in more on Spring and the water
cycle. During the first lesson, the students participated in a water cycle dance where they learned
the names of the different stages. The students then were able to engage with the water cycle
inside of a sandwich bag, during which the students moved a bead around in water inside of a
sandwich bag that had the water cycle drawn on the outside. Although many of the students had
some difficulty saying the names of the stages, by the end of the activity nearly the whole class
was able to demonstrate how
their bead moves through the water cycle.
The students also had the opportunity to create a rainstick out of either a paper towel
roll or a toilet paper roll. The students were able to decorate their rainsticks and choose what
they wanted to fill their rainstick with. All of the students seemed to really enjoy this
experience, largely due to the fact that it was very hands on. Many of the students were able
to describe what they were hearing and compare the sound of their rainstick to rain hitting a
window.
Overall, these lessons were successful. The students learned that there were four seasons
and learned about some of the characteristics of these seasons, such as the different temperatures
in each season, holidays, clothing, etc. The students also demonstrated that they had a general
understanding of the water cycle and the different sounds that rain can make.
Thank you for sharing your child with us for the semester. We have seen a lot of
growth and development in all of the children throughout this semester. In addition, we have
both learned a lot during our time. This has really helped both of us grow in our
understanding of developmentally appropriate activities and as future teachers.

Thank you again,

Courtney and Anna
