PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY MR.

FRED AMANKWAH-SARFO,
ASPIRING NPP NATIONAL CHAIRMAN ON THURSDAY 10TH MAY, 2018 AT
THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY HEADQUARTERS, ASYLUM DOWN, ACCRA
Excellent morning Ladies and Gentlemen of the media fraternity. I appreciate your
response to this press conference even at such a short notice.
In 2017, I declared my intention to contest and win the National Chairmanship of the New
Patriotic Party in our upcoming National Delegates Conference. I was, and still convinced
that, as a political party, we have what it takes to modernize the NPP.
I have since engaged major stakeholders across the country. I have been humbled by the
warm reception from the members of the National Council of Elders, Ministers of State,
Members of Parliament, Patrons of our party, Regional and Constituency executives. My
team and I are most grateful to each and every one.
We have espoused a three-point agenda of Harmony, Development and Reward as we
consolidate our gains for 2020 and beyond. To realize this vision, we intended to
submit for the party’s consideration, proposals concerning the following issues:
1. Building a New Ultra-modern National Headquarters for the party.
2. Building and refurbishing regional and constituency offices across the country.
3. Paying end-of-service benefits (Ex-Gratia) to all outgoing party executives.
4. Instituting an annual reward scheme to honor hardworking members of our party.
5. Empower our party youth through an entrepreneurial and business development
training schemes at various constituencies.
These proposed areas continue to drive our campaign across the country for the National
Chairman position. However, we have sought advice and listened to good counsel. We
have assessed our chances to this point and decided to graciously postpone our contest,
agreeing with John Ortberg that
“Prudence is foresight and far-sightedness; and the ability to make
immediate decisions on the basis of their longer-range effects”.
I want to wish all aspirants God's blessings and to urge them to be circumspect and
mindful of the supreme interest of the party. We are reminded of Article 3D of our party's
constitution.
I extend best wishes to my senior colleagues and contestants Mr. Freddy Blay (Acting
National Chairman), Mr. Stephen Ntim and Alhaji Abubakari Rahman (Alhaji Short) as
they file to contest; and I urge all to conduct their campaign in a most decent manner,
devoid of conduct likely be mar the relative peace the party is enjoying now.

As a party in government, we need harmony to be able to support the government of H.E.
Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo as he leads the charge for extensive socioeconomic
development of our country. Like many Ghanaians, I am convinced that the New Patriotic
party has the best policies and programs to transform the fortunes of Ghana.
To achieve this objective, the NPP needs to win the 2020 election and subsequent
elections to prevent the create-loot-and-share brigade from coming back in the
foreseeable future. I will continue to lend my support to the party and the government as
we implement the agenda to modernize the NPP.
My sincerest gratitude to H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, H.E. Alhaji Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia, H.E. John Agyekum Kuffour, Mr. C.K. Tedam and the National
Council of Elders, Hon Akosua Frema Osei Opare (Chief of Staff), Ag. Chairman Freddy
Blay and members of the NPP National Executive Committee, Regional and Constituency
Executives for their support, counsel and solidarity shown me on this journey so far. I will
continue to count on your support.
My gratitude also goes to members of my team, the FASTeam, regional and constituency
coordinators and members of Critical Thinkers International for your steadfastness. Your
hard work and dedication will continue to inspire us all.
My profound gratitude to the media for the cooperation.
Thank you so much for granting me audience.
May God bless us all.
