NVGate V8.

30 RELEASE NOTE

RELEASE NOTE

NVGate 8.30
Service Pack

Introduction
rd
NVGate V8.30 is the 3 service pack bundle released for NVGate 8.00 users. This version is compatible with
your 8.00 licenses. Previous version licenses’ owners must contact OROS’ Customer Care Department
(customer.care@oros.com) in order to upgrade to NVGate 8.xx versions.

The present document lists the new features and issues fixed by this release.

Added features
This bundle brings several improvements and features to OROS users.

Efficiency features

This first set targets users’ efficiency during their everyday operations with OROS instruments and software.

Copy/paste Front-end tables

Taking advantages from the Excel capabilities for tables’ creation and updating, NVGate V8.30 offers now to
update the front-end/player tracks from Excel table. This feature uses the Windows® clipboard.

Two entries are made available from the contextual menu of the front-end or player tracks properties: Copy to
Clipboard and Paste from Clipboard. These commands come in addition to the local copy & paste which allows
duplicating cells locally. Note that it is also available from any NVGate table.

NVGate V8.30 RELEASE NOTE

Using the new Copy to clipboard capability allows pasting your inputs/track configuration to Excel, modifying it
and then return it back in to NVGate. This also works with any spreadsheet software accepting csv content.

Generally, it works as a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get); Data are exported in the same format/unit
as displayed in NVGate table. Import (Paste into NVGate) behaves like you are typing the values.

Nevertheless, some precautions apply transferring data from Excel to NVGate.

• Headers (line and column) are added when pasting in Excel. This cell should not be copied prior to
paste in NVGate.
• For the purpose of correct reading, units’ columns are automatically added. These columns are
ignored when pasting into NVGate. These columns may be absent from the Excel table.
• The figure (sensitivity, offset, etc...) units are read according to the current NVGate user preference
one - not the units in the Excel table.
• Paste in NVGate starts from the upper-right cell of the area to update in the NVGate table. The cell
should not be in editing mode.
• If pasted value is not acceptable for NVGate, the corresponding cell will:
o Adjust it to the closest upper value if it is possible (ex: max range)
o Ignore and keep the current one if not acceptable (ex: unknown coupling)

Auto increment row on Reports

It is now possible to add multiple acquisitions in one report.

Typically designed for test of components set or assembled
parts; such as end-winding or production quality check, this new
feature operates with Excel reports.

The basic idea is to increment the position of the results to the

next empty row at each report refresh. For such purpose the
standard report capabilities now offers an auto-increment row option. When this setting is activated the drag
& drop tag in the report will include the auto-increment.

This function works with any item dropped to the Excel report (markers, data, graphs, settings, etc…).

Getting the frequency, amplitude and phase of a set of components (bump test) is now fast and secured using
the auto-incremented marker table coupled with a sequence for the identification data.

The following example fills the test report of an end-winding bump test. The remote control user field settings
have been used for measurement identification (blade # & side). A sequence is activated to update these
settings for each bump. A peak marker has been used to collect the frequency and amplitude of each bump
test.

After masking the report tags, the final report may looks like this:

Refresh report on end of analysis

Once again OROS is enhancing your efficiency during measurement and

analysis. This time we added a simple button which directly puts your
result in the current opened report. By selecting this option no need to
think about refreshing your report, it will remain up-to-date at any time.

Accuracy features

The second set of improvements concerns better measurements, data reading and identification of the
managed setups and data.

Swap recorded channel on output

Back to the roots of vibration analysis: Everybody knows that our ears and brain is the best instrument to feel
and interpret vibration signals. This is also why we take so much care in removing these NVH signals from our
machines, vehicles and appliances. The audio playback of vibration (or any other) signal allows the user to
“listen in” on what your OROS analyzer is “hearing”.

Extending the existing input replication on generators outputs, NVGate V8.30 uses the monitor hot swap
capability to allow changing the replicated signal during acquisition/recording.

The NVGate synopsis is as follows:

Dynamic swap

Transducers Inputs Monitor Output Headphones

NVGate V8.30 RELEASE NOTE

To activate it, simply connect one of the monitor

Channels to the desired output from the
Acquisition/Outputs/Signal dialog.

Then you can add any front-end input to the

monitor channel. The selected input signal will
replicate (play) on the output. You can swap form
one input to another at any time including during
the run and signal recording

NB: Remember to switch the output impedance to

600 Ω for better listening quality.

Highlight active trace

Multi-trace or multi-graph windows are useful with several inputs and multi-analysis operation. This type of
graphs features now a way to highlight the active trace. A preference allows activating larger drawing for the
active trace (+1 pixel on both sides).

It applies on 2D graphs except the compressed signals view (TDA TimeView, Recorder monitoring, Player signal,
zoomed signal and signal preview). Both multi-graphs and multi-trace support this option.

This feature is activated in the default users’ preferences. You can de-activate this option from the
Home\Preferences\General dialog or the contextual windows properties menu: select the Windows tab and
unselect the “Enlarge active trace” option.

140 dB dynamic

Thanks to the high FFT line number added in the

latest version of NVGate, The spectral dynamic of
the analyzer can now reach up to 140 dB (with
25 601 lines).

This is possible thanks to the high quality of the 3

series range instrument, especially the analog
inputs stages.

Default user’s preferences

With NVGate V8.30 the user’s preferences

default values have been updated. This concerns
the graphics, refresh speed, marker colors, start
configuration, etc… If you wish to experience a
better and more efficient use of your instrument
and software, switch to the predefined user
preferences.

Browse your preferences (Home / Preferences /

General) and click on “Default” button each time
you want to switch to the predefined ones.

NB: The AutoSave configuration option will be

activated every 2 min. This may lead to long duration auto-saving depending on the size of file selected in the
player. We recommend to de-activate the AutoSave while post-processing large files.

Distributed and large channel count measurement features

Accompanying the users of OROS VibeMaster™, the large channel count OROS solution, NVGate V8.30 offers
important developments covering the post-processing of distributed and cascaded measurements.

System and input # identification in multi-system recordings

This release of NVGate reinforces the input identification. Indeed in multi-unit, large channel count (MU-LC²)
the localization of each signal source (inputs and recorded track) is a major concern.

When a file contains MU-LC² signals (i.e.: generated by NetGate or the Track Assembler) track identification
table (Properties or Add/Remove tracks) are enriched with the following:

• Hardware identification: usually the system name or A, B, C when systems have not been named. This
identifies from which hardware the signal comes,
• Input number: Input 1 to 32, Ext sync x, DC 1 to 32, auxiliaries. This identifies from which BNC on the
said hardware the signal comes,
• Label: The given name in the acquisition setup. Ex: Top acc, Microphone 12.

Track # Input # Label Unit (Hardware)

NVGate V8.30 RELEASE NOTE

These tags are also made available from the ASB and Track properties. As they are used for formal
identification these settings cannot be updated after the acquisition.

In addition, the transducer localization settings: Component, Node and Direction contribute also to the clear
identification of the signal source.

NB: The MU-LC² settings are hidden using single hardware signal file.

Large channel count post-processing

NVGate V8.30 smashes the 32 channels ceiling. The max number of channels per plug-in is now unlimited. This
allows post-processing large channel count files (> 32) in one pass.

The plug-ins analyzers (FFT, OCT, TDA, SOA, etc..) are now available in various analysis size: 8, 32, 64, 128 ch
and more if needed. Consult your local dealer if you want to upgrade your post-processing channel count.

Miscelaneaous

NVDrive command for Kinematic marker

The kinematic marker has been introduced with V8.20. This latest release brings the NVDrive commands to
control any features of this marker type from a remote application.
