Room Sized Plastic Storage Unit Project

Room-sized plastic storage unit are slowly becoming a centre of interest of thermoplastic

and thermo-set fabricating of any competitive companies. Winsome Manufacturing Company

is focused on developing a competitive product that is aimed at implementing the project to its

final stage. It is therefore advice that the findings presented in this report are used to guide the

entire production process through the design, production sector, purchasing, shipping unit,

sales and marketing departments. However, in order to accomplish the entire scope of the

paper, it is important to highlight the details that are required to build the basis of the project.

The project stakeholders

The project is aimed at creating an environmental friendly storage unit that can be used

to supplement the need to construct permanent structures. In addition, it is important to

acknowledge the need to have the stakeholders on board. The green peace, UNEP and the

perceived customer will form part of the shareholders. Similarly, those members of the public

who have the interest of the company’s business at heart are also invited to be part and also to

take part in the new venture.

Roles of the stakeholders – The Green peace are expected to help Winsome

Manufacturing Company with ideas that will ensure that the fabrication and material choice

conform to the desired environmental standards. Secondly, the UNEP will be involved in order

to develop a comprehensive ways of conserving the environment by ensuring that the wastes

are recycled. Plastic waste can also form part of the project that can help reduce environmental

pollution. Thirdly, customers are the most important part of any product development

(Grisham, 2010). They are crucial when determining suitable requirement and specification of

the product in order o comply with the desired functionality. The public and cooperate the

world are expected to join the project as a means of raising capital and meeting financial

requirements of the organisation.

The project sponsor – Winsome Manufacturing Company should consider approaching

the bank and the interested members if the public in raising capital to ensure that the all the

production states are adequately financed.

Associated department

Winsome Manufacturing Company must have all it department take part in the process of

actualizing the Room-sized plastic storage unit project. The sales, marketing, production,

shipping, design and purchasing departments play a crucial role in the project. However, the

heart if the entire project lies squarely within the manufacturing section.

Reason – It is evident that the project is more of a technical process rather that white

collar procedure (Berkun, 2008). Fabrication is more important and should be located within

the manufacturing section that is found in the production department. The injection machines

are also not efficient since it requires additional labour such as trimming and smoothening of

the edges.

The desired skills and experience

Initiation Phase – The project manager is expected to develop best skills that are needed

to assess the feasibility, profitability and team management.

Planning Phase – Proper planning techniques in the following field of finance, project,

resources, quality, acceptance, and communication is needed during the project. It is advisable

that the project management uphold high competence in the planning techniques.

Implementation (Execution) Phase – The process of execution of the project requires the

following desirable skills and expertise: costing techniques, communication safety, risk

assessment and effective delivery.

Closing Phase – The process of winding up the project lifecycle require that the project

manager develop effective documentation techniques, staffing skills and handling the

experience of the products.

The variation between the phases – The different phase handles different forms of the

product and should not be entangled with the mechanical aspect. Each phase is done after

completion of the other in order to create effective transition (Grisham, 2010). In summary, the

phase handles different value addition required in the Room-sized plastic storage unit.

Type of communication plan

Synchronous Communications forms the most important part of the project since time is

considered a factor of the production. The information must be shared within a short time and

in a more convincing and harmonized manner. The type of communication will ensure that the

shareholders are given the information is based on the Synchronous Communications method.

It is important in passing details such as the benefits and the viability of the project. Similarly,

the phases and the progress of the project must be captured in the shareholders report (PMI,

2013). In addition, the mechanism used in the process of information sharing include emails,

fax and package delivery.

The frequency with which the sharing of information should be done is based on a

monthly basis in order to avoid anxiety from the shareholders and the curious customers.

Similarly, the effectiveness and efficiency of the communication must be assessed in order to

avoid complaints from the participants. In case of ineffective communication, the project

manager is expected to adopt a synchronous method that involve calling for the live meetings,

conferences, audio conferences, video conferencing, instant messaging and texting. Evaluation

of project communication should be done based on the convenient technology within the

organisation (Roberts, 2011). Communication can be considered to meet the ethical and legal

issue at the point of documentation. The patent also to the project must be kept as a secret in

order to avoid competitor from accessing the details of the project. In summary, the project is

expected to remain a secret until the time of launching in public.

Information in the elements of the project charter

The problem addressed – Firstly, the project is expected to create room for

accommodation that acts as an extension of the existing apartment. Secondly, the need to

reduce environmental degradation and pollution form a crucial part of the project. Finally, the

project seeks to reduce the construction time and the desire to have mobile storage units

(Binder, 2007). The business opportunities presented by the project aims are solving the needs

of the society of having more storage units for water, waste and raw material within the

factories.

The business case – The Room-sized plastic storage unit will be viable and will retail at

a much more reasonable cost and value as compared to building an entire room suing wood or

concrete. Furthermore, the need to increase mobility, reduce construction time and create

optimized space lies wholly on the plastic storage unit. In summary, the production cost is quite

low since it uses recycled plastics. The financial impact of the Room-sized plastic storage unit

project is quite low and is not going to cost the company a lot of money as compared to other

fabrication. The project is expected to make huge profits due to the collaboration with a large

organisation such as UNEP and Green Peace, who have strong capability to sell the product.

The value of the project is projected to be as low as $500 and the larger compartment or

unit will cost around $1000. Moreover, the risk associated with the project is quite reduced

since the fabrication department will ensure that harmful gases during heating are avoided.

However, the benefits are quite overwhelming to an extent that it should not face any market

critic. Finally, the potential impact on the company is projected to be quite high and can lead

to self-dependency and gaining of competitive advantage over other producers of the Room-

sized plastic storage unit.

Conclusion

The most significant part of any project management lies in the functionality and impact

of the function on the environment. Based on this principal, it expected that the report will

provide more support for the future of the project. Based on the sequential analysis of the

viability of the project, it is evident that the management team are able to draw informed

decisions concerning the future of the project in relation to customers’ desires.
